Cleansing Apollo's Well

Game log for the 2017/02/05 session of Wanderers, as taken by Joe

We start off in the parking lot of Apollo’s Well. The Taco Truck shows up. Grey Rat shows Spoonman the key that he’d recovered for Captain Savage. I question the wisdom of returning to the Dauntless after we so blatantly cracked the aircraft carrier in twain.

The discussion over how to keep the key from the Captain ebbs and flows while Grey Rat goes to examine Randy, who’s mind is open to the Maelstrom. A professional disagreement leads to Randy being turned into a vegetable, so Spoonman goes up the hill to seek medical attention.

I tell Fliss to round up the boys and restore some order. Badge and I try to round up townspeople in the face of increasing “enforced relocation.” The townspeople start shooting at us, so Mama Cass, Badge, Meatloaf, and I go to ground in a cinderblock building and return fire. Ace and some lads arrive and lay down suppressive fire. Fifi moves in but gets hurt.

Once Fifi has scared everyone off, we take advantage of the situation to “tactically withdraw” with the gang, Ace, and Fifi. Spoonman and Grey Rat arrive in the parking lot as we’re packing up. I point them at Flenser, the used car salesman, as a potential source for power. I agree to give them 12 hours to get the well operational before we leave.

Badge isn’t happy. He’s just shot his cousin and wants to leave, but I’m able to convince him and the gang to wait 12 hours, to leave what good we can, before we leave. Spoonman comes down and wants everyone to help out with some weird ass experiment. I pull Fliss and Badge over and tell him to convince them, or we’re leaving in 9 hours.

Spoonie gets physical and I knee him in the balls, telling him that he’s still got to talk to the gang. ‘Cause we’re leaving in 9 hours. He finally takes my advice and talks to Fliss and Badge, buying them off with 4 barter so that we stay to help him generate power for his weird doobus.

It’s getting dark and the SPD is having fun revving their engines and making noise. Once the capacitor is charged, Spoon, Grey Rat, and Ace head up the hill. Fifi and SPD unhook the vehicles and get ready to leave as soon as Spoon returns to pay us. We see a giant shaft of light illuminate the night sky.

We get ready but we figure that Spoonman’s dead. We decide to leave and remember that Spoon owes us 4 barter. Ace shows up and tells us that the well is working again. Badge isn’t moved and we let Ace know that our plan is to go raid the convoys of refugees out in the desert. Melody and Harvard give Ace a ration of shit as we’re trying to leave. She uses guilt. He gives no fucks. We want to leave. Fifi stays to find medical assistance.

It’s been 2 days and it’s fucking hot out in the desert. Ace is with us and we’re raiding convoys, but it’s hard to find the small groups. And when we do, it’s almost not worth the time. When we finally come up on a sizeable group,

I look into the maelstrom and see a special on Aisle 5. We come up with our plan and Ace drives them into a wadi, where we are waiting. We waste the first wave. Ace comes in to keep them from scattering. They’re toast. We ride in and loot (2 Barter).

On our way back to Apollo’s Well, I get a pain in my mouth, my gums hurt. Time to find Albatross, but then I remember that I’m not liked in Apollo’s Well and the constabulary checks people’s gums before letting them into town. Shit could get real.

A week later, we’re ready to sleep in someplace comfortable. Everyone’s healed up and we’re back in Apollo’s Well. We get to the parking lot and see Fifi on top of the taco truck with the doof cannon. Having seen that weapon in action, we fishtail out of there and retreat. People aren’t feeling good thoughts toward Fifi. She turned on us. We retreat into the desert to sulk and scheme.
