Casual Bounties
Game log for the 2021/02/15 session of Impulse Drive: Stormlight, as taken by Jacko
Franco and Drix recuperate after having new modifications implanted in their bodies. Kyruss, meanwhile, figures it's time to bring Trogruls to justice. He starts hunting down information and goes to talk to a barkeeper named Cygnus at the aptly named Peanut Gallery. She's not there but they make some small talk and waste time with the other employees and the few regular prospectors that turn up to day drink. Some are much more surly than others and complain about having their mining beacons hacked by unscrupulous criminals.
Ember decides to have a few nips of bourbon and accidentally slips by the Abyss as she gets more and more tilted. She sees the intricate machinery of Tempest creation and how complex it really is. How do they keep it all together? She's crying to Janus about someone named Roya and hoping she can find them. Janus takes Ember's drink away and they begin arguing about who's in charge of whom. Ember starts screaming and the building starts shaking, causing some minor destruction and consternation. She decides to head outside.
Cygnus arrives a little while later and Kyruss questions her about Trogruls. She reveals that Trogruls almost always goes after greenhorns and inexperienced victims to steal from. He's a thief, but not violent. They decide to go after Trogruls at one of his claims.
Drix spends some of his time recuperating in the hospital by investigating the financials of Benevolence and it's reach in this sector.
Kyruss, Janus and Ember head out to one of Trogrul's claims to set up an ambush. Ember is playing the part of bait and hears some noises in the brush. She lashes out at the noises and a filthy Ceinerth gets yanked towards her from the brush. She begins interrogating him but he points out that her screaming will draw the attention of Broadheads in the area. It's a bluff but there is something big and toothy nearby that decides to bolt and nearly tramples Kyruss. Kyruss moves in to pass a shock collar to Ember so she can fit it on the wriggly Ceinerth. They bag and tag him and drop him off, collecting the bounty and letting Ember keep it.
Franco confirms with his Duzan contacts that the pickup is still under way. They confirm the pick up of the embryo is on schedule and time and their team is coming in the next couple days. Drix and Janus decide to work together to do more financial investigation into Mundy's Paradise and Benevolence's manipulation in the sector. Kyruss and Drix discuss Ember's future and which of them might be the better mentor for her, but they don't seem to be in agreement.
The Stormlight is fixed up and returned from drydock but the airlock is still giving issues, throwing errors saying the airlock is not closed. The ship, succinctly, won't leave atmosphere in this condition. The crew believes that the drydock has sabotaged things to screw them out of more money but Drix will handle it. He Suggests to them that they fix it properly and they send a crew over. Janus gets a call from he drydock shortly after, informing her that they don't believe they are at fault for this further trouble. Janus has to argue with them about what their warranty actually covers and the legal implications thereof and the work crew is sent back.
Franco has to make moves to get the Stormlight from leaving right away. He leaves the ship and loses his Fed Marshall escort before scrubbing his face paint off and approaching a Long Watchman. He tells them that Sholvith is harboring a Duzan fugitive at the spaceport and they may be leaving very soon. It's a lie but it's convincing enough to get the Long Watch to place a halt on all outgoing flights at the spaceport. Franco keeps up the ruse of being a concerned citizen long enough to get back to the ship.
Kyruss and Ember spend some time looking at bounties with the T'Selek showing the human girl how to spot attractive prospects. Drix continues looking at the agricultural futures evidence Janus has uncovered so they can figure out just who might be profiting from the continued blockade of Mundy's Paradise.
