Drinking with the Jigsaw Man

Game log for the 2017/07/09 session of London Fog, as taken by Joe

Pre-session: Malachi chose Night and my rumors of werewolf turf wars have focused on rakshasas pulling the strings (fail).

Session: I’m arguing with the doorman to Lady Arwell’s supper club, trying to talk my way in with no success, when Judith comes by and tells me that I have larger problems. Excusing myself, I follow Judith to a coffee stand. She wants to go some place private. I hail a cab for the Opera and she tells me about Leeathwyn (the Jigsaw Man), but I’ve never heard of him. He must’ve started working after my exile began. Unable to make a deal with Judith for my debt, I tell her to have him meet me at the Opera House.

I get to my box. I’m actually looking forward to Verdi’s La Traviata. I’ve heard promising things about this new tenor. I’m watching the crowd and notice Miss Cleo with Barton Cromwell, the head of kidnapping section at Scotland Yard. Cromwell owes me a debt about Judith’s death, since I was a helpful informant during that case.

I take an advance from the Revenant playbook: Abashed the Devil Stood:

Before I can do anything about that, my box gets very dark and cold. Bravely, I pour a glass of brandy and invite my visitor to join me. He introduces himself as Leeathwyn and says that he has questions to put to me. Suddenly, I can no longer hear the music.

Jigsaw Man wants to know why I was exiled and I tell him about Prince Quentin and Egon’s murder. He then asks about Lady Arwell and I answer honestly as well. I tell him that I think I have two ways back into the Queen’s grace. First would be to prove that Egon was really bad, but he’s ten centuries dead. The second would be to provide service to the Queen, a much harder proposition.

JM admits that torturing me would be easiest, but I’m offering to serve the Queen. He tells me about a thing that the Dawn Court has that could affect the Queen. Finding this thing and bringing it to JM would help me back into the Queen’s favor. I agree to be his servant in this manner, even though I suspect trickery will accompany its resolution. He gives me a ring to put on my right hand (“and remember my eyes) to contact him. Then he disappears and I can hear the music again.

I hear a kerfuffle outside my box and when I go to shush them, I see Judith manifested fighting the surry driver. I leap to her aid, but she’s disappeared. It’s too late to stop but before the driver’s hatchet can find me, Malachi charges in and takes the hatchet between the shoulder blades. I grab the driver and wither him, making his skin crack and revealing an interior of quicksilver before he flees. I don’t know what he is (failed Face to a Name roll).

Back at my box, the management arrives to question me and while I avoid further entanglement, I’m unable to convince them to leave me my membership. I’m escorted to the back door despite my protests. In the alleyway, I find and heal him (discharging my debt). I then turn to find Oscar asking me to help him extract revenge on Ned, his rival.

I retire to the Londinium and drown my sorrows in Fae wine.
