Cloakshape of deception
Game log for the 2024/11/17 session of Star Wars - Deniable Asset, as taken by Jason
So we're parked in a nice hiding space, waiting for the right transport to come in. The system geometry puts a moon between us and the most common point for ships to come out of hyperspace. A couple small fry come through, ships we can't use, but eventually the right target turns up, a nice cat GR75 medium freighter. Igli puts Myyla on the guns and Gar in the copilot's chair, and also has Yareeli in the cockpit. That way he can advise if needed and also see that we are making our best effort to uphold our end of the deal we made with him last session.
When the angle looks right, Igli punches it, and comes straight at them from their upper port quarter. Conn's effort to jam their comms comes to naught, and the Asset picks up a distress call. The freighter holds its course, and Igli closes in, ending up on their six, while Myyla fires a shot across their bow. Igli calls them on the radio and tells them to cut their engines and prepare to be boarded. The freighter ignores the hail and opens fire with a concealed laser turret. Their fire does modest damage to the ship.
Igli bores in on the enemy, holding steady so that Myyla's fire can be as accurate as possible. Phex leaves the deflector shields to Gar and hustles into the other turret, so the ship will be able to deploy all its ferocity. Myyla tries to take a precise shot to disable the enemy laser turret, but it's at an awkward angle, and most of her fire skitters off enemy armor. Con, still at the ship's computer, slices the freighter's systems and weakens their shields, while Gar angles the Asset's shields forward. The freighter's return fire misses.
Igli continues to hold the ship steady. Phex and Myyla both open fire. Phex's fire misses, but Myyla's destroys the freighter's laser turret. At that point Con hears Sebec 3 control acknowledge the freighter's distress signal. Igli squeezes every bit of juice out of Deniable Asset's engines and closes in on the enemy ship, giving them an unmistakeable look at both of our laser turrets. They do the math on two turrets to none and cut their engines.
Con tries to slice their systems, but he doesn't have sufficient control to do anything against the will of the crew. Myyla and the two wookies cycle through the airlock to board the freighter, with Phex in tow. The crew do not want to get in a fight, especially not in a closed space with Wookies. The hatch to the bridge is open, but the hatch to engineering is in the process of closing. Myyla tells Yareeli to check on engineering, the other wookie to stand guard, and goes to the bridge. The crew there are expecting her, but Yareeli can't get into engineering. The other wookie brings the prisoners onto the bridge, where they're easy to keep an eye on. As Myyla tries to point the ship toward Sebec 6, she discovers that the engines aren't responding. She can change the ship's orientation, but not kick in the drive. Con scurries across the tube between the ships and tries to force the door open. He kneels down, opens the panel, cross connects a couple wires, and the door opens a crack, then stops, as someone on the other side tries to outrun his jurry rig. After a couple tries, Con outraces his foe, the door opens wide, and Yareeli KOs the hostile mechanic. Con quickly resets the thrown breaker on the main drive. He also makes a hasty patch over the worst of the hull damage. Igli takes evasive action in the Deniable Asset and prepares to jump to hyperspace, while we'll try to claim that the freighter fought the bandits off. Igli gets the ship gone before the patrol craft even got to visual range, which will help sell the idea that the "pirates" never engaged. The patrol craft changes course to form up on the transport, the Potbelly.
The patrol craft, a Kuat Cloakshape, hails the Potbelly, and Myyla assures them that we're all good. Myyla has lots of experience conning humans. The helpful pilot cautions here that there's some busted up plating, but according to his inspection, no structural problems. Since the Potbelly is in good shape, the patrol craft actually peels off, checking to make sure that the pirates really did beat feet.
As they approach the planet, Con takes the copilot's seat, and helps Myyla chart a path through the storms that beset the planet. Despite their best efforts, the ship lands hard, sustaining damage, and it's going to take a little time to repair. Con uses the ship's computers to create some scan chaff, which makes it look like the ship broke up in the upper atmosphere. Con immediately gets to work on repairs, which aren't going to take so terribly long after all. Most of the wookies have detoxed now, and several of them are eager to help with repairs. They also help unload the original cargo of machine parts to make room.
