The delicate sound of blaster fire

Game log for the 2024/11/03 session of Star Wars - Deniable Asset, as taken by Jason

We pick up in media res, with our intrepid heroes having taken the security office at the Sebec 6 mining station. The elevator to the security station has had its safeties disabled and dropped to the bottom of the shaft. The doors to the shaft from the barracks and security levels are open. They call for Con to come running from the ship to the security office to start working on the security system. They assure him the way is open, although not all the stormtroopers in the base are accounted for. TLDR is watching the prisoners, Phex is watching the elevator shaft, Myyla is in the elevator, and both Igli and Gar are in the security office.

Gar and Igli sneak out to check the tunnel that leads to the facility turbolaser emplacement. Even though this construction doesn't leave a lot of places to hide, they're able to move undetected, out and to the left, and then to a spiral staircase leading up. At the bottom of that staircase, they hear someone above them, having a conversation. Whoever it is sounds panicky, like maybe he was in a fight with Lafayette. They move in, and Gar orders whoever it is to reach for the sky. The guard obeys, dropping his communicator. Igli scoops that up, and they lead the guard back to security, where they shove him in with the other prisoners.

Igli then calls Con, tells him there's a security guard between the hangar and the security office, and that he wants Cont to help him that that guy out. Con doesn't like combat but he does like helping to take out Imperials, so he agrees.

With cover from Phex, Myyla climbs the ladder and joins Igli. They pass the lounge and cantina level, then reach the hangar. From the ladder of the shaft, they can open the door, but there's no telling what they'll see, so Igli asks Con to make some noise. Con makes some noise the old-fashioned way, by shooting at the stormtrooper. He hits him, though the mechanic's holdout blaster doesn't do a lot against the trooper's armor. Myyla runs out of the elevator, gets a good firing angle on the stormtrooper, and opens fire with her blaster, taking him out. Con and Myyla hasten to security, while Igli boards the Deniable Asset.

As they pass the lounge/cantina level in the shaft, Myyla and Con hear banging and shouting. Myyla decides to hold and maintain overwatch on that door. Con's able to get into their computer system, and searches for the location of the governor. He can't find him, but he does find a record of a distress signal in the message queue, unsent. Con wipes out the queue, then looks at the security cameras on the lounge level and confirms it's workers trying to pry the doors open. Con kills lights in that room and cranks the heat up over 100, just to discourage them from working too hard.

Con activates the fire suppression system in the stormtrooper barracks, filling it with fire retardant gasses that make it very difficult for anyone to see. Phex and Gar come out of the lift shaft in the barracks level, and try to sneak into a firing position. Phex's scope can see right through the haze, giving him a thoroughly unfair advantage. One stormtrooper orders the others to stay put while he checks things out, another takes his spot, and Phex's rifle burns right through the first trooper and wounds the next. The rest of the defenders lose a short, vicious firefight, and retreat into the tunnels.

Igli preflights the ship.

Con accesses the computer again, feeding TLDR information about base droids, comm protocols, and schematics. The droid calls the site administrator and pretends to be a helpful droid giving him an escape route, but it's a route that will lead him right into our clutches. The boss asks what the situation is, and TLDR feeds him a story about how the situation meets the requirements for evacuation, but the usual protocols are compromised. He recommends that the administrator bring his personnel out with him.

Phex and Gar head down to the industrial level to await the administrator. Unfortunately the most direct route would be across a broken catwalk, and they have to take the long way. Gar gets ahead of Phex as they run, which will allow him to lie in wait for them. Phex, however, is in danger of being seen, and has to hold back to stay out of sight. The boss' staff hit the facility control room, arm up, and head for the minehead. Phex tries to pop out to take a shot at the administrator, but the minions see him and open fire first. They hit, but their tactics prevent the governor from moving. He's effectively trapped by his own guys. Phex, heavily wounded, nonetheless manages a head shot that more or less decapitates the administrator. The guards get real ornery on Phex now, but their panic fire misses Phex entirely. Gar pulls back out of the minehead, but holds position for the moment. After a few minutes, he hears the someone in the control yelling "cease fire," and then things are quiet for several minutes. He hides. They move out, and he overhears one of them tell the others that they're heading for tunnel 17, branch 8. Gar returns to the security center.

Myyla sees the door to the cantina level finally give. A bunch of workers peer out into the shaft. One of them sees her and yells, "Don't shoot!" She does not shoot, and motions for them to come out. They're distrustful, and ask what's going on, but they don't speak Wookie. One of the prisoners tells the others to get out of his way, and begins leading guards into the barracks, while others go into the hangar. A couple in the hangar approach the ship, but when Igli swivels the turbolasers to point in their direction, they decide to keep their distance.

Con's inspired to check the prisoner roster, and discovers one of the Wookies, Yareeli, is a VIP. He's a convicted terrorist, which is Empire-speak for a Wookie resistance leader / Rebel asset. Gar takes a medpack to some of the Wookies to see if he can make some of the coherent, with Myyla helping.

Con decides to work on sabotaging the facility while they do that. TLDR keeps an eye on the prisoners. Phex returns to the ship. Some of the workers ask to be taken along. Con suggests that places on the ship should go to Wookies, but Gar thinks that they won't be able to get more than a handful of Wookies off the ship. Myyla talks to some Wookies and gets them to allow Gar to treat them, and she's able to find Yareeli among them. A few stimulant doses later, a handful of Wookies are coherent and with it. Yareeli is pretty pissed about the number of dead Wookies in the factory. She explains what happened, and convinces Yareeli to come with the crew so that he can advocate for a proper retrieval mission. One of the other recovered Wookies takes over in security.

Con and TLDR are still in security when a black and white Wookie shows up, sees the bound people in security, and gestures for TLDR to hand over his blaster. The droid asks if the Wookie is going to kill them. The Wookie says, "What do you think?" TLDR hands over the blaster, the Wookie gets the job done, and then TLDR gestures for the Wookie to give the blaste back.

Con makes a list of stuff that will be easy to wreck in order to slow production, and tries to get the workers to do it. However, the workers aren't real excited about actually doing the work, since they know most of them are stuck here. TLDR gets on the loudspeakers to try to persuade them to think of all the other prisoners who will come after them. TLDR finds people who will volunteer, and for a while there are a lot of mechanical sounds, but then there's blaster fire. Everyone heads for the ship. When he sees it, Yareeli immediately declares the ship to be too small. He does recognize that anyone else who argues for the rescue will not be able to articulate the case as well. He offers a compromise: he'll come along if we help him steal a ship. He goes off to organize some things, and comes back with another Wookie. He offers Igli one day to steal the ship. He insists on pirating the next ship they find. We board him, his Wookie buddy, and eight unarmed workers who want off badly enough to chance it. Deniable Asset departs.

Gar checks nav charts to see what the biggest port around is, and figures the most likely flight paths from Elnoor. The ship hides in an appropriate spot, and waits for a transport to come in.
