Retrenching

Game log for the 2025/02/23 session of Star Wars - Deniable Asset, as taken by Jason

A human called Darvon picks up the commlink at Goro HQ. He's sort of slid into Iros' old role, and done so surprisingly quickly... though whether it's going to stick is of course another question. We've seen him around at Goro functions, but never conversed. Darvon explains that Goro felt let down when the contractors hired to clean up the mess just vanished on him. TL-DR tells him the whole story, and while Darvon isn't loving all the details, he admits that it fits the details. Goro's organization will need to verify all of this once they recover the sail barge's memory core.

Anax Fez, our new contact with the New Republic, is a Sullustan, and is willing to meet up in Hub 7. Con and Gar stay on the ship, Con having whined incessantly about how he needs to be in free fall so nothing touches any of his burns. Fez tells us to meet her in an insurance office, where we're sent to one of the meeting rooms to meet with a representative of Associated Insurance. Since she has a private meeting room, she doesn't want to beat around the bush or deal in code words. She knows the outlines of our mission but not exactly what we were doing with the Hutts. Fez points out that anyone surveilling the Hutts would presumably have some intention of doing something about it, but she's not sure who would have such an interest. That creates an obvious target for our future investigations. She updates the team on how there's now a New Republic ambassador to Mandalore, and the Bothans have also officially signed on to the New Republic. She thanks the team for our work and pays 30k credits.

Conzens asks for some dataspikes, and Myyla finds a Wookie named Kruwiek who specializes in illicit electronics.

Con, healed by Bacta and eager to work, gets into the local computers and determines that the endpoint of the signal from U7's core is a small comm buoy in orbit around Elnoor.

TL-DR mines U7's brain, looking for more information about Darvon' role in Goro's organization. Prior to Iros' death, he was a functionary without responsibilities or influence, but whoever was running this had marked him as someone to keep an eye on.

Gar agrees to go with Conzenz on the EVA mission to the buoy. Igli lines up the drop beautifully, and Gar has no trouble landing on the buoy, but Con accidentally puts a little spin on himself, and spends most of the float cursing. When he arrives, he finds that the comm panel is inaccessible due to all the ex-Imperial tamper protection. Con goes to cut his way in, but finds a panel that was already loose, and works his way in. He then gets into the computers and starts pulling logs. He pulls the coordinates to which this buoy is relaying messages from U7, and Gar calculates that it's being tight-beamed to a remote spot on Elnoor. Perhaps we should drop by! Con then adds a secondary destination, so anything sent in this data exfiltration channel will go to one of Anax's deaddrops, but the work triggers a system reset that flushes all queues. That might tell people there's been an issue on the buoy. The two of them hop on the float again, trusting to Igli to pick them up. He does.

This spot where the ex-Imperial, maybe ex-ISD receiver sits is 1000km from anywhere. We rent some speeder bikes, load them on the ship, fly out to within a couple minutes of the receiver, land, and travel overland.
