Bad logic and dangerous weapons

Game log for the 2025/02/16 session of Star Wars - Deniable Asset, as taken by Jason

Goro having decided to let us live, we join him for dinner. It's a very eclectic guest list, with a heavy security footprint. One of the Trandoshan guests keeps looking warily at Myyla. She doesn't seem to mind. Some of the guests are local officials, which is not surprising, since Eygor is a local government HQ. It's also the planetary government HQ, but for whatever reason, none of the guests are planetary government officials. Look, Blue! A clue!

Phex notices a repurposed B1 droid carrying an empty hors d'oeuvres platter stand around mingling, but visibly track the behavior of nearby guests. TL-DR asks one of the other droids to state its mission. Its mission is to ensure that guests want for nothing, and that refreshments are always on hand. It reports service mission efficiency data and guest consumption habits back to its master. TL-DR tells the droid he needs to update its secret mission protocols and he requires access to its data port. It tells TL-DR that access to its data port is restricted. TL-DR assures it he has authorization, which it will show the other droid, through its data port. TL-DR accesses it before it has a chance to stop him. TL-DR finds that the data these droids accumulate gets routed through the maitre'd droid (K4-99 and thence to 7U-A8, the chief maintenance droid.

TL-DR finds K4-99. It's a dome-shaped droid, maybe 4 feet in diameter, with a variety of arms and tools hanging off it. He decides to seek Con's help, and Con explains that there's no way the threat rises to K9 or 7U's level, because the bad guys would own the entire barge. Phex points out the droid he saw misbehaving, and Con goes to {{[npcref|Iros}}, from whom he receives authorization. Phex, Igli, Myyla, and Gar gather on the top deck, and TL-DR tells the suspect droid to deliver some drinks to them. The droid agrees to do so and heads upstairs. Igli takes the tray out of its hands and then says, "Grab it!" Myyla does so, and then the droid explodes. Well, first it makes a high pitched droid squeal, and smoke and sparks come out, and then it explodes. Goro's guards come rushing up, and shortly after, so do Conzenz and TL-DR. The party members all report that the droid blew up. Myyla tried to jump on it to smother the impact. The guards, in the grand tradition of gullible guards everywhere, believe the story and take the party to medbay through a private elevator.

Con and TL-DR take another stairway to the top deck and go to look at the scene. Con can clearly see that this was not a power core meltdown. It fits the parameters of a B1 battle droid's self-destruct mechanism. Con finds Iros again, and after waiting for him to have a moment, explains what's happening. Iros tells him that none of their droids have self-destruct charges. Since this one did, it stands to reason that not every droid on this sail barge is actually Goro's.

When the barge returns to Eygor, Gar suggests that the party should help make sure no droids disembark. He also begins scanning droids for explosives. A couple people notice that he's scanning for something, and he notices them noticing. None of the droids he scans have explosives. Once the guests are all gone, Iros allows us to stay behind and scan all droids. He agrees to have 7U-A8 order all droids to their charging stations and thence to go into passive ready. Con and Gar find 4 droids with explosives in them. Myyla and Phex find a B1 with a blaster, sitting in passive ready. They report the droid's location to TL-DR, and when they do so, it draws its blaster on them. Before it can bring the weapon to the ready, Myyla slices it in half with a vibrosword. Phex pulls her away, just in case it explodes too. 7U-A8 tells Iros that the armed droid is nowhere on the sail barge manifest. Con can see that it is, though, and points that out. 7U-A8 makes an angry buzzing noise and produces a lightsaber. Over where Phex and TL-DR are, a kitchen droid pulls a knife and charges them.

Con runs away.

In the galley, Igli pulls his slugthrower and hammers the kitchen droid. It falls down, and begins pulling itself across the floor into stabbing range. TL-DR administers the coup de gras.

In engineering, 7U-A8 absolutely wrecks Con with a flamethrower, lighting him on fire. It turns the lightsaber on Gar, but doesn't connect. Anyway, Gar starts blasting, but he misses.

Phex and Myyla notice a B1 droid casually walking across the deck. When it sees them, it charges them. Phex tries to report its number and position in, only to find that comms are down again. Myyla pulls her blaster and shoots at the droid, but misses. It runs toward Phex, who draws and shoots. His blaster fire detonates its explosives, lightly injuring Myyla.

In engineering, Con, on fire, keeps running, because he's extremely scared of being cut in two by a lightsaber. The droid cuts Iros in half and fires the flame projector at Gar. He runs away, then does a stop, drop, and roll. TL-DR sees this happening and also runs for it. Con stops, drops, and rolls, which extinguishes the flames, and then lies there screaming. Gar stops, drops, and rolls, but the burning whatever stuck to him is not going out. TL-DR grabs a fire extinguisher and douses Gar's flames, then yells "this way!" Unfortunately, 7U decides that since Gar is no longer on fire, it's lightsaber time, and it slices Gar up. Igli tries to use his comm to warm up the Deniable Asset, but cannot connect. TL-DR, on the run from 7U, hucks a thermal detonator over his shoulder, and even the semi-conscious Con feel the thump from that.

TL-DR and Igli meet up with Phex and Myyla. TL-DR quickly tells them Con and Igli are down, and they hear a wrenching of metal as 7U pulls itself after them. Myyla throws a fragmentation grenade at it. The blast doesn't seem to bother the droid too much. Phex fires at it and hits the droid's lightsaber manipulator, causing it to drop the weapon. TL-DR hits it and seems to hit an actuator or something, because the droid's movements loose some of their smoothness. Igli hits it with a slug and damages something internal. The droids turns the flame projector upon them again, and lights TL-DR and Phex on fire.

Con, in engineering, finds the computer in shutdown/purge mode. He cancels that out immediately.

Myyla, apparently having had just about enough of this, charges 7U-A8 and shoves a vibrosword into it. That makes it cease all behavior. Phex stops, drops, and rolls.

Igli rushes to engineering and finds Con there, just as Conzenz disables the jamming. He wheezes "I think TL-DR was right" to the pilot. Igli goes running back to find the rest of the team. Con tries to contact Goro, and has some trouble getting through. Eventually a Transoshan picks up, and he recognizes him as one of the senior bounty hunters working for Goro. The Trandoshan orders them to stand down, but Con isn't feeling like that's necessarily the best plan. He goes staggering for a passage up. Con and Igli are able to get the memory core out of 7U in reasonable time, and meet the Deniable Asset on the poop deck.

Back in low orbit, Gar treats the wounds of the various organics, and Con does repairs on TL-DR. In the process, he uses his hammer and dolly to tighen up the fit on the droid's concealed weapons compartment.

As they convalesce, Con analyzes 7U-A8's memory core, and discovers it was the nexus behind all intel gathering on the barge, reporting it all to an endpoint he notes, using Imperial encryption algorithms. The endpoint address is in Elnoor, and we could trace it more from Elnoor.
