Tracking Scrap

Game log for the 2025/06/02 session of Star Wars - Deniable Asset, as taken by Jacko

Phex decides to lay low on the station and blend in while waiting for his ride out, finding a bunk at a flophouse where he could also post an ad stating that he's looking for work. He's not got all of his normal tools of the trade but he's not totally unarmed either. He's at the local spacer's guild when he sees three men enter, one of them being the goon Myla decked in the casino. They meet another Rodian and it's not a friendly conversation, asking him questions pretty sternly before bringing in a fourth man. This guy looks like a civilian and, it turns out, is a witness. He clears the first Rodian but then points the finger at Phex. Phex pays his tab but the three man approach with hands on holstered blasters, warning him not to start any trouble.

The witness says Phex stabbed someone named Jono but Phex maintains his innocence. The trio say they're station security forces and that Phex should come with them, and they don't look inclined to talk more about it here. Phex decides it's a boring conversation and starts blasting, shooting the leader of the trio in the throat and killing him instantly. One of the remaining mooks fires but misses and the other tries to tackle Phex to the floor, bowling them into a table of spacer civilians. Phex plants the muzzle of his blaster into the mook's chest and dispatches him before scrambling to his feet to make his getaway. The last mook fires wildly and manages to tag Phex (and a couple civilians) but the Rodian marksman is beating feet. The mook is adept at giving chase and manages to let off another shot, scoring a fearsome wound on Phex. Phex stops, turns, takes aim, and manages to drop the mook with a single shot before spinning on his heel to keep booking. He makes his way into a maintenance area and applies a stimpack to himself.

The Asset heads back to the Umboldt system after most of a day and rings up Phex on comms. He informs the crew that he's killed three more mafia henchmen which puts to bed any plans to dock in the station again. Phex is told to steal a shuttle if he wants off of that station. He manages to find a shuttle in a mostly empty docking bay and sets to work prying the door open by cutting wires with his vibro knife. Someone shouts that a vagabond is trying to steal their shuttle but Phex pays them no mind, rushing into the cockpit. A pre-flight check is something Phex knows conceptually exists but he doesn't have time for that while Myla tries to walk him through it. He quickly learns that docking clamps very much exist and he's forgotten to disengage them! He manages to get the shuttle mobile and shoots the mechanisms that are closing the blast doors before punching the throttle, jetting out into the rings of Umboldt and doing his best to not crash into anything. He manages to avoid an ion cannon burst, and any dust or rocks that could damage his newly stolen shuttle, before getting into rendezvous with the Asset.

They swap Phex for their prisoner, giving him the shuttle albeit with now disabled weapons and plugging in a course that'll get him close to the station. TLDR explains to him the situation and the mafioso is grateful he's not getting killed and straps in for a ride.

The Asset lays in a course for Umboldt-Levity station a quarter way along the planetary rings and manages to bluff their way into a docking berth. Gar, TLDT and Igli book passage back to Umboldt-Hope on a shuttle while the rest of the crew lay low on Umboldt-Levity. Con tinkers on Myla's vibrosword between trips to the head.

Gar heads back to the casino to meet his black market contact, who seems incredibly paranoid. He's afraid someone is trying to horn in on his claim on this station but he did manage to salvage more gear. He advises they meet at docking bay three. Igli and TLDR notice their erstwhile hostage getting escorted into the casino by a mob goon but he didn't clock them, phew! Gar clues them into the location of the Firespray ship but he and Igli aren't able to beat the dealer there.

Gar checks out the scrap, TIE panels, and some other bits including a concussion missile. They start haggling on price while TLDR makes his approach to plant the tracker on the ship. The droid manages to slap the tracker in a hidden location on one of the vanes without anyone being the wiser. Gar decides to buy the panels and electronic bits and bobs but not the missile and it's a done deal with a promise to meet up at Umboldt-Courage in a few weeks, at the Corialis bar. Igli manages to salvage some choice bits from the scrap but they ditch the rest before making their way back to Umboldt-Levity.

The crew take off and hang out in space while waiting for the tracker to ping them. Their New Republic handler sends them a bounty contract with Phex as the target, letting them know they've drawn some attention. They ping back that they're doing their job and the mission is going apace. It's not long until the tracker notifies them that the Firespray has jumped to Tabercor. He leaves a couple days later for Galbart's Star, a dusty, gaseous nebula where stars are forming. Only one exists at the moment but the nebula is thick with stellar material.

Coordinates are set for the same jump point as the smuggler but in clear space and the Asset takes a look around before powering down so it won't be spotted. Days go by before the Firespray comes out of the nebula and jumps back to Umboldt. The crew goes into the nebula and finds a starfighter training course complete with targeting buoys. They decide to install a sensor package into one that will alert them when it's activated before withdrawing and powering down yet again, deciding to lay in wait. The Firespray returns after some time and begins tractoring wreckage before, suddenly, a capital ship jumps into the nebula. It's an Interdictor heavy cruiser!

The Asset stays dark and silent, as does the Firespray, as both ships are definitely in the gravity well.
