Holmur
The forge world of Holmur is nearly a misnomer as the actual production facilities are located on the planets moon, Stykkis, a celestial body nearly as large as the planet itself. The two bodies orbit one another and so the distinction between satellite and planet is made purely based on population. While the main production of heavy military transports on and around Stykkis is the primary manufacturing aim of the binary planet, Holmur is where the production of the ‘cargo’ is centered. Holmurs 15 billion inhabitants are spread over six regions that combine residential sectors and military training facilities for Skitarii regiments. The individual areas would be considered to be sprawling megalopolis population centers surrounded by industrialized landings areas for the importation of food and other necessities that cannot be grown on Holmurs polluted surface.
Daily life upon Holmur is dedicated to becoming adherents of the Machine Cult and focusing in the creation of soldiers for the Mechanicus. These soldiers are typically spread throughout the Calixis sector to guard Tech interests including supplying armsmen for stations, ships and planetary based research outposts. Cybernetic implants are common though typically of low to average quality thanks to the need to mass-produce them. Those that remain on Holmur are typically instructors, educators, or menial labor that are ruled by a conclave of senior Mechanicus veterans and military commanders. The Skitarii and armsmen that come from the planet are regarded as stolid rank and file though not usually known for innovation or creative when making war.
Stykkis is a valuable resource for the Mechanicus forces in the sector but is vulnerable as it must export its chief means of defense. Its position in the Josian Reach sees a great demand for able bodied soldiers that Holmur can barely support and so there have been rumors of the council trying to instigate programs to see a more efficient use of its population. The rumors vary from trying to attract colonists to settle and reproduce to darker tales of genetic reclamation bays for vat breeding facilities, tech that would smack of heresy if true.
