Belligerence & Bloodshed
Game log for the 2012/05/24 session of 7th Sea: The Search for Salvation, as taken by Jason
Felix goes charging into the room, ignoring Benito's pleas for peace and forbearance. Nikolai, entering right behind him, throws an axe into one of the musket-armed Inquisitors and kills him. The living Musketeer tries to shoot Felix, but his musket misfires. Alonso Mendez de Gallegos del Castille steps back, letting his men get between him and the mercenary with the big sword. They manage to get a blade through Felix's guard, but strike only a glancing blow. Alonso moves back between his men. Felix kills the nearest man in a frenzy, running the zweihander through his chest with so much force that the man's lifted entirely off the ground. Alonso takes Janisse Rambeaux hostage and and tells us to stop. Léon puts his blade up, but Felix doesn't relent. The thing is, if we put up our swords, we all fall into the hands of the Inquisition, right? Benito yells for Nikolai and Felix to stop, which has thus far not made an impression. The brute squad manage to get through Felix's guard again and this time, they actually do some damage. Léon sheathes his blade and walks closer to Alonso, hands raised to show peaceful intent. Claude kicks Alonso in the back of the knee, but the big bad pulls Janisse down with him, so the hostage crisis isn't over.
Léon darts up to Alonso. The goons switch their focus to Nikolai, but can't penetrate his guard. Alonso gets to his feet and thrusts his knife into Léon and inflicts a dramatic wound. Reginald stabs an Inquisitor from behind and takes him out of the fight. Benito gives up trying to stop and fight and runs to engage the musketeer before he can reload. Felix jabs at a guard but misses - twice. Léon whips out his rapier and slashes Alonso across the shoulder, informing him that "We Bisset always repay our debts!" Roderick tries to stab another guard but misses. Claude drags Janisse out of the way. Nikolai steps away from the brutes to clear his way to Alonso, and demands his surrender. "Surrender or I will kill you where you stand!" The enormous Ussuran's fierceness shakes Alonso. Felix kills another Inquisitor, which warms the cockles of his mercenary heart. Nikolai, still hoping to cut things short, bellows, "I am in no mood to be trifled with!" The one remaining brute tries to fight for his life, but can't get it done. Alonso surrenders.
Nikolai grabs Felix and tells him now is not the time. Felix drops into low stance, trying to convince his friend that the fight's over. Alonso drops his sword. Nikolai, not being born yesterday, doesn't release Felix. Felix reminds him that the zweihander's scabbard is on his back, meaning he can't sheathe it while held. The musketeer sheathes his blade and moves back toward his master, so Nikolai reminds him of the rules. "Friend, that is not what surrender looks like." Alonso tells his guard that he's lucky to escape with his life, and he can leave his sword behind. Once all weapons are accounted for, Nikolai releases Felix, who puts his sword away. Felix can't quite believe he's going to let anyone live, but he won't go against Nikolai.
