Boared of Morgathianism

Game log for the 2026/11/01 session of Broken Empires : Kanday, as taken by Jason

Session Two 2026-11-01

The 2nd of Nuzyael dawns cool, partly cloudy, windy out of the northwest.

The feasting went late last night, but those principally concerned with the hunt for the boar, like Delwin, turned in early. Boar hunting is serious business. Sharel, the woodward, is taking this hunt super plus extra seriously because the boar killed her father. She'll be guiding the party, which will start out on horseback. The Baroness will be there, Sir Idryn, Sir Fayad, Garnotin, Merik the royal forester, Rhys, and a great many other hangers-on. The group gets off to a late start because too many important people were up a little too late last night, and had a little too much wine while they were doing it. The Sheriff of Torenshire is also a little later than he might have been, but he arrives in time. The Baroness pulls Merik, Sharel, and Delwin aside, to let them know that she knows that the boar is dangerous and must not be allowed to escape, even if that means showing up one of their noble guests. Sharel advises Delwin to stay out of her way.

The hunt proceeds to Gidden Wood. The Baroness asks Sir Idryn's party to take lead and rides alongside Rhys for a spell. She talks about how Castellar is missed, and asks about Garnotin's lessons in bookkeeping with Narrides of Deithal, the clan man of business and investment. (Narrides has magical powers, or claims to, and is a Shek P'var apprentice.) Garnotin admits to being fascinated with business, though the Baroness and Rhys both consider Deithal's magic use suspect. Rhys admits that he'd like to learn more about Save- K'noran ideas about society and governance.

Delwin spots boarsign, and asks Merik to point it out to the party. The pursuit goes cold, though, as the bore seems to have been all over the place. Things are going nowhere fast when, unexpectedly, Delwin sees the boar, already in bow range. Ideally, at this point, they'd either bring the VIPs forward, or flush the boar toward them. Delwin decides to send Merik to bring the VIPs forward while he keeps eyes on the prize. Merik delivers the message, and the Baroness dismounts. All the hunters get spears.

Delwin begins trying to move in on the boar, but as he attempts to flank it, he loses sight of it. He begins backing out toward the hunting party. He's working back, gesturing to the Merik to be careful, when the boar bursts out of the brush at him. It knocks him down, breaks his shin, and rips his leg wide open. Merik fires an arrow, but misses, and then so does the Baroness. The Sheriff, following behind, isn't ready to shoot yet. The Baroness gets another arrow out quickly, and this time she scores, a body hit that staggers it back away from Delwin. The boar charges at her, forcing her to dodge aside. It goes right past her and the Sheriff toward Sir Idryn's party. Merik gets an arrow off after it passes, and hits it in the groin. That has to sting a little, but this hardy specimen still doesn't go down. Delwin reacquires his weapon. Sir Idryn tries to dismount and face the boar with braced spead, but gets a foot tangled in the stirrup. His horse takes flight, and Sir Fayay chases after to lend aid. Garnotin tries to ride out of the way, but his horse rears, and does not run. Merik gets another arrow off, and hits again, inflicting a mortal wound to its body. Rhys tries to ride out of the way, but Garnotin's horse rump-checks it and prevents it from obeying. The boar charges Garnotin, but misses, and then runs off into the brush. Garnotin rides after Sir Idryn, and Rhys points to where the boar ran into the brush.

Merik leads the pursuit for the boar, Sharel close behind, while Rhys cares for Delwin. Merik finds himself in a thicket, with a sort of twisted stump, and a pile of stones with a cow skull on top. The skull has been painted, and there are black wax candles all around it. He allows Sherel the honor of the killing blow, which pleases her, but she suggests he should summon the Baroness. Merik blows his horn, and people converge on him.

Garnotin catches up with Sir Fayad, who is still chasing Sir Idryn. Sir Idyrn's horse carries him into a branch and does terrible damage to his eye, while Sir Fayad manages to catch up to him and rein in his horse. Garnotin rushes over and begins treating Sir Idryn. He manages to get the eyeball back into the socket!

Rhys gets Delwin onto his horse.

The hunting party arrives at Merik and Sherel's location, and give the boar a good working-over. The Baroness dismounts and one of her men gives her a boar speer, which she then hands to Sharel. Since the beast killed her father, it's only fair for her to take the honor of the kill. The VIPs get ready to return to the castle. On his way back, Merik bumps into Garnotin and Sir Idryn. Others take care of getting Sir Idryn back to the keep - using Garnotin's horse. Rhys walks because his horse is carrying Delwin. Merik tells them of the altar he found, and takes them to it. The forehead of the skull bears a filled-in black circle, with another circle around it. The pile of stones has four courses of three, with one more on top. This bears the sign of the Wreaker. Garnotin is shaken by this, because his sheltered upbringing had him thinking this heresy was abolished. On top of this spooky-ass situation, it's a long walk home, and by the time they arrive, the party is in full effect. Delwin gets moved to the undercroft, with Merik to tend to him. Rhys and Garnotin get to attend the feast! Sir Idryn is heavily bandaged, but he is able to attend.

Rhys tells Castellar about the shrine in the woods. The older man wants to let the Baroness and the Sheriff know, although he's content to put off the notification until the party starts to break up. At the end of the party, Rhys, Merik, and Garnotin are all brought to the Baroness, in the tower room. Rhys starts it off with the small talk, but quickly gets to the important part: a shrine of the minions of the Wreaker, hidden away in the forest, now destroyed. The Baroness is surprised. The Sheriff thinks it must have been something left over from the Theocracy, but the witnesses report the candles and state of it show that it was current. Rhys tries to use this as a reason to increase the presence of the Church in the area, in the future. The Baroness files that one away for the future.
