Bluster and Boars

Game log for the 2026/10/25 session of Broken Empires : Kanday, as taken by Jason

The 1st of Nuzyael is cool (40s-50s F), partly cloudy, windy NE

The previous night, the 30th of Morgat, is a night where everyone stays indoors. Tonight, by contrast, is a party. For the farmers, this is the last day off before preparing for spring planting. In Minilauous, the Baroness will fund a lot of party supplies, including using up any winter stores that won't be good next winter. The feast started around noon and has been going on for hours now on the south common. Most of the clan is there, Sir Emory of Kantwick (the bailiff of the hundred) is there, and lots of other familiar faces. Sir Idryn and Sir Fayad started drinking even before the party started, and Garnotin is close by, expecting he'll need to do damage control. Idryn's guardsmen are also getting a little rowdy. Merik is with Sir Abel and overhears one of the guardsmen, Reggen of Dorth say something inappropriate to one of the local girls. Folgen of Fannar is Reggen's buddy and a cousin of the reeve. So, Abel approaches, and begins calling out Reggen's behavior. The lad seems completely immune to these threats and looks to Sir Idryn for guidance. Idryn assures Abel that nobody means any harm.

Rhys and Castellar Paserius notice this interchange but are not persuaded to intervene.

Abel does not accept Idryn's assurances. Rhys intervenes to try to distract them by offering them both a drink. Merik suggests to Abel that he should accept. Garnotin starts trying to calm Sir Idryn down, and that's when Sir Fayad, eager to frustrate Garnotin, points out that none of these men are Sir Abel's. Merik tries to persuade Sir Abel that they should go tell the girl that this doesn't reflect on her, but Abel is completely unmoved, and reminds Sir Fayad that he doesn't command men. Sir Fayad turns to Sir Idryn and tells him that as these men's commander, he must speak up for them. Still very quietly, Garnotin reminds him that he is also responsible for disciplining these men. Sir Idryn offers to ensure that the man apologizes after, making his amends while sober and clear-headed. Sir Abel doesn't seem entirely mollified. Garnotin realizes that part of Sir Abel's frustration might be that these men are ignoring his authority. Rhys asks if that means we're going to need to take this to the Baroness, and Abel continues to bluster that these men might be unworthly. Rhys tries to tell him that this is not the day, but Sir Abel insists that justice delayed is justice denied. He pushes past Sir Idryn and grabs Reggen. Garnotin says, "Reggen, do you truly intend to go before the Baroness with this? Why not apologize like a man?" Reggen sees wisdom, and goes with Sir Abel to find the lass in question and apologize.

Garnotin tries to approach Sir Fayad and find out the nature of their quarrel. Sir Fayyad doesn't admit to any quarrel at all and insists that he just wants Sir Idryn to be a more forceful leader. Eventually, Sir Fayyad asks if Garnotin is trying to imply something. Garnotin just says, "I don't feel like we're as good as friends as we used to be." Sir Fayyad gives him a hug, whispers, "Because you have forgotten your station." He gives Garnotin a drink and wanders off.

The celebration continues, and the Baroness gives her toast. "People of Minilauous, people of Mezant ... Hundred, the greased pig has brought us all entertainment, but there is another pig that has brought nothing but woe to our community... tomorrow, we hunt the Gidden Boar!"
