A Complicated Day

Game log for the 2016/10/30 session of Eclipse Phase: Profits of Doom, as taken by Joe

Chou won’t be stalled, so she takes Selina to the precinct. I’m excess to requirements, so I fade to a nearby coffee shop and call Daryl. We conference in Edward and find Selina a lawyer. I let Clio, her muse, know that the lawyer is on the way and she should stay mum.

I’m starting to get antsy ‘cause the dame won’t clam up like we told her to, when Edward’s silk suited mouthpiece showed up and sprang her. I met her at the steps of the precinct with a cab and got her back to my place.

Edward’s research runs into a dead end trying to figure out who the three deaders are. The guy, Bao Shi, had a kill switch. The two femmes were forks of each other and are both gibbering mojo, we discover that Bao’s usual haunts were around Haze, a good way away from the apartment.

I put out some feelers for any johns looking to get it on with a pair of sleeves of the smae woman. Once I get an idea of who to look for, I’ve got to figure out why he’d resleeve one of the pleasure pods into a cheap splice-morph and then why both Bao and the high end gal would get beaten almost unrecognizable. The prints on the knife belonged the splicer who was stabbed.

Daryl headed to Haze. Selina tells us how two forks that have been separated for a while and are then merged, they go batshit nuts due to the memory/experience mismatches trying to find the authoritative source. What if the two forks didn’t want to merge?

Edward’s theory is that the two forks knew two different pictures of Bao, but that doesn’t answer why he’d want to reintegrate them.

Meanwhile, Daryl’s at Haze talking with the guǐlǎo Triad killer Berrigan. Berrigan admits that they don’t know what happened and can’t resleeve Bao to find out what happened, but he emphasizes that Selina should keep her mouth shut and ride out the cops’ attention.

I’m chatting to Selina, trying to figure out how the pleasure pod got into her apartment, fast, while insane. Selina’s idea is that someone forked an AGI. Thank you Alex, Infomorphs for 200…

Edward thinks that this scenario could equate to slavery for the AGI. Merging the forks wouldn’t require a ego-bridge, but you still couldn’t do it in an apartment. Edward goes looking for one of Yi Hua’s forks. He finds a match to her code in an AGI named Alice, a routine nanny morph.

The splicer had 6 weeks more memory than the pleasure pod. Suddenly the answer came to me. Every night, when she’s done working, the Triad reloads the pleasure pod. It’s her first night every night. The original template lives in Haze’s databanks. The splicer had been living with Bao for weeks, accreting memories and growing beyond the template.

When the splicer tried to log in to the mesh, the attempt threw an error flag since the pleasure pod was already logged in. Suddenly aware that there were forks of her ego, the pleasure pod went to Bao Shi’s to meet herself. She beats Bao Shi and the splicer to death, but the splicer stabs her before she dies.

So what do we do now?
