Game log for the 2013/02/14 session of 7th Sea: The Search for Salvation, as taken by Jason

Veldi, 9 Nonus

Janisse takes Felix to the Explorer's Society to find a map of Charouse. The receptionist seems surprised to see Janisse, who brusquely moves past her into the map room. It's not small. Felix explains what he needs, and Janisse tells him that fighting in the streets is a horrible idea. He tries to explain that Benito and Léon are going to get them into a street fight, so it's down to whether we want to win or lose. She doesn't agree. They discuss the imponderables of the situation and then Janisse tries to change the subject by putting the moves on him. Unfortunately Felix is strong of will today and tells her that they can absolutely get it on... back in their room, once the map is safely stashed. She relents because Felix rolled really, really high and is notably studly.

Nikolai returns to the room, having determined that Benito is safely indoors doing boring stuff.

Léon talks to the crew about visiting Andre Leveque to discuss his father's case, but is interrupted by a knock on the door. He checks the peephole and sees no one, so he opens the door and sees an extremely old and very short woman there, dressed in high court fashion. She asks for Reginald. It's his Grandma! Reginald introduces her to all his friends. Seems that this is the woman Reginald knows as Lady Dulcet. Léon mentions that if she speaks in Vodacce, everyone will be able to understand her. She does so and asks everyone to call her Eleanor. She asks for a snack, which Reginald goes to put together. Léon tells her of our chase for saboteurs through the funnest parts of Castille. Reginald returns with bread and cheese, which Lady Dulcet immediately begins laying out for everyone. She's utterly grandmotherly. Over snacks, they explain the problems we've seen in Montaigne, and our wacky adventures with the Inquisitors.

Felix shows up with his map, a quick tracing of a Society map, and gets introduced to Grandma. He bows and kisses her hand.

Léon changes the subject and asks for stories of young Reginald. Turns out he has a sister who runs a dress shop, and parents who live in the Avalon countryside.

Reginald then changes the subject to the orb under the Palace. She says that the Pirate Isles have a problem with the undead that sounds similar to the undead baddies we've fought, but that he should stay away from pirates. As the conversation continues, Nikolai loudly drains the last of the wine. Grandma gives him a look and he hastens to offer to go get more. The conversation turns to Panebianchi's difficulties with women and she seems pleased that Nikolai truly does appreciate love. She then turns back to the subject of the cold sphere under the Palace and cautions Reginald that it's very dangerous. She advises us not to let it out, to avoid death on a "massive scale." Felix asks for clarification and she indicates that all of Charouse would be destroyed instantly, with the surrounding regions devastated.

Reginald and Lady Dulcet then go outside to see the city together. She tells him that there should be something in the area around the cold sphere that would make it safe, but of course getting in there is a problem. Oh yeah, and also, why doesn't Reginald work on getting her some grandchildren?

After she leaves the room, Léon offers 5 guilders that she's at least 200 years old. The discussion then changes to working out how we can turn a riot into a coup or some other militarily useful thing.

On his way back from Grandma's hotel, someone throws a bag over Reginald's head. Someone whispers, roughly, "come with us." He's not far from the safehouse, so he screams for help, using a little magical knack he has for making sure he's heard. Nikolai hears, announces that Reginald is in trouble, and goes running. Felix and Léon follow. Reginald begins trying to resist by tripping his captors, but can't make it happen. Felix and Léon use their swordsman's skills to glide through the crowd, in which effort Felix grabs an early lead. Nikolai takes to the alleys to try to head them off. Weary of Reginald's efforts to escape, one of his captors slaps an iron manacle on his wrist, which settles him right down. Nikolai decides to skip the alleys and move in a straighter line, running through doors and leaping out of windows, and runs right into Reginald's kidnap party. Felix and Léon fall behind as they try to track the enemy.

Seeing Nikolai, one kidnapper finishes manacling Reginald and begins using him as a shield, while the other draws a sword. Nikolai takes an axe to the swordsman and gets a good piece of him, and gets stuck himself in response. He misses his next swing and suffers a riposte, suffering a dramatic wound. Felix rounds the corner. Nikolai swings again and inflicts some hurt. Felix readies his weapon and closes the range, while Léon gets distracted by the sight of three cloaked figures moving purposefully toward the fight. Felix manages to take a chunk out of Reginald's captor. Léon begins trying to get back toward the fight without attracing the notice of the cloaked figures. Reginald's captor pulls a knife while effortlessly suppressing Reginald's efforts to break free.

Nikolai hits his foe with an axe, yet again. Léon tries to convince people that he's someone important and they need to get out of his way, which buys him a little room to maneuver. Nikolai's opponent lunges at him and pricks him nicely, but not such as to inconvenience him. Nikolai grabs the outstetched wrist, swings his axe at the lunging figure's head, and ends that fight right there. He then pulls the rapier out of his side with a contemptuous noise. Reginald's captor shouts at Felix in Thean, which Reginald helpfully translates. It's from the Book of Executions, which makes Reginald rather more nervous. Felix resets his zweihander and then, almost faster than the eye can see, swings again from low stance and smashes the top of the presumptive Inquisitor's head off, catching the seam of the bag over Reginald's head in the process and thus allowing him to see. Léon takes another look at the cloaked figures and realizes that the cloaked woman is Mia Fusco di Freiburg. Felix spits on the body and looks for keys to the manacles and/or proof that they're Inquisitors. He finds keys and unlocks Reginald's manacles. We then depart the scene. Reginald asks us to go check on his Grandma, so the three of us head over there.
