Still the night of 6 Octavus.

Léon socializes at the ball, catching up on the latest gossip. Nikolai and Reginald return, which is certainly nice for all concerned. Léon catches Reginald's eye and gets the nod, telling him that their secret mission was successful. He immediately wishes to perpetrate some Porté magic, but realizes that he can't just casually abuse the very fabric of space and time in the midst of a society party. With Benito in tow, he makes his excuses and steps out of the party. They then return to the barber shop and violate reality.

Sadly, reality ain't havin' none of that just now. Reality screams, and the smell of raw meat fills the room, but Léon just can't seem to get his hands on his bag. He has to take a break, get his head right, and then... man, the fabric of reality seems to be unusually slippery tonight. "My mother," he mutters, "would be so very disappointed in me right now." Third time pays for all, right? He has to root around in that crack in the fabric of reality for a long time, but finally, he realizes that he just can't Porté tonight. Then the barber comes home, and offers them all a drink. With expert socializing skills, Léon distracts him from all the destruction of the fabric of the universe that's been (not) taking place in his home. They get him to go to bed and then get back to all the impossible things Léon must do before breakfast.

Léon decides that he needs to get closer to the bag, so he doesn't have to reach so far for it. Benito points out how dangerous that might be. He tries again. He can't do it. Janisse thoughtfully suggests that they could get closer by going down into the sewers. Benito politely requests that she stop helping.

7th Octavus

After repeated tries, Léon gets hold of Frémiet's journal. Much of it is encoded, but Léon can read enough to realize he's in it, by his real name. He then realizes that the book might be blooded to its own, which could be a major worry. He flirts with the idea of removing the pages he needs and then inscribing a personal message, perhaps from our friends in the Inquisition. Too risky. Reginald tries to look for hidden messages or other trickery, but finds nothing.

In the morning, Benito decides to consult with his man Felix and explain about how Frémiet knows who Léon is, so we should all go to Eisen next. Felix strongly suggests elsewhere. Vendel is nice this time of year. So's Avalon. Ussura is not actually nice but it's not Eisen, which makes it a relative paradise.

Also, Benito would like to have us kidnap Frémiet, so as to find out for sure what he knows. This leads to a wide-ranging discussion of the merits of various types of violence and ways of dealing with our current difficulties. We discuss and discard many plans, and conclude that we need to hang around Paix a little longer and then go to Charouse.

When the discussion winds down, Felix goes to visit Janisse, and gets a little more clarity about their relationship. That is, he realizes that she's not mad at him, and that there's still something going on, but that he shouldn't expect romance. He does not realize that she's just using him for his body.

Reginald joins Nikolai in a shopping trip to get ready for their road trip.
