Prostitutes and Passage

Game log for the 2012/03/01 session of 7th Sea: The Search for Salvation, as taken by Jason

Felix and Nikolai decide to lay a false trail for Salvadore by hiring an appropriately built lady of negotiable virtue. We head for Dionne to do so. We end up hiring two, so as to allay their fears of being kidnapped and ritually murdered. We take them to Pascal's house and tell Pascal we're all going to Eisen. She can tell that Nikolai is lying to her, but she goes along with it. We pay off the prostitutes and make it very clear to them and their innkeeper/pimp that we were never there, nobody ever hired them, and there's nothing they could tell people even if they wanted to. Nikolai makes it further clear that if, for some reason, they did want to tell someone, he would kill them with extra-special mutilatory fervor. We then head out to meet with the Castiga.

Léon and Benito go back to Dionna to visit with Luna and Daria. Léon has to remind Good Lindsay of his manners, but nobody takes much offense at the pirate's attempt to raid the kitchen.

Léon goes into his room, changes into his travelling clothes, and returns to the sitting room, where the women of the house are busy knitting. He explains that we're going to have to move on, and they suggest that he might want to take Benito's stuff with him. They also offer up the household servants to speed the packing and whatnot. Daria gives Léon a handkerchief to give to Benito. Good Lindsay is being a pig and demanding wine. Léon offers the cook 50 guilders for a bottle of wine (and the hospitality he and Lindsay have already abused), which freaks her out, so they negotiate down to 5. Lindsay immediately takes the wine and leaves along with Léon and Claude, complaining bitterly the whole time. Léon notices that Good Lindsay speaks with an accent that mixes Montaigne and Avalon. Léon remarks on it and tries to make conversation, but gets rebuffed with "I'm from a lot of different places." Claude shows signs of growing impatience with this pirate bullshit.

We all meet safely back at the bookstore. Anna Valente asks to speak to Felix in private. She thanks him for the help the group provided to Evelina and Mercede, and offers him the assistance of her organization if we ever need it. She mentions having friends in Castille, so Felix asks for a letter of introduction.

Léon sends Luna's servant Valentin back home, ending for the moment our ties with the family Calabretta.

Anna gives Felix a letter, sealed with an emblem of twig and berries. Gustavo then leads us back to a skiff, which takes us to the Castiga. Good Lindsay continues to complain.

Good Lindsay: "Why don't we have more wine?"

Léon: "We have quite enough already."

Anyway, soon enough we're back to the ship. Evelina and Benito are already there, and the ship's doc has seen to Benito. Benito wants to go below decks, so Léon goes below with him to deliver Daria's favor.

Nikolai announces that we're leaving the Castiga and making our own way to Castille. We agree to me in the port of Malaca, which is also where Anna's letter needs delivered. There's a physician there named Escobar Sanchez de Galegos del Castille with whom she apparently has some commerce.

Mahmoud announces that he's going to stay in Dionne.

Nikolai wishes Mercede Panebianchi di Vestini a safe trip. She once again advises him not to pursue a grudge with Salvadore, but to stay the hell away. Mercede wishes him a slightly tearful goodbye and lets us take the skiff back to port. Benito's clearly had something to ease his pain, because he's super out of it. Nikolai ends up carrying him. Léon goes to the ship's doctor before we leave, who advises him to take one stiff drink of some sort of bright blue "medicine". The doc then performs a wee spot of surgery, which actually does nothing for Léon's health except perhaps to build character. At least he gets a fresh bandage out of the deal. Luckily, the medicine kicks in in about an hour, after which Léon feels better.

We take the skiff to Isola Serpento, take a room for the night, and catch a ship for Malaca the next day.

Redi, 16 Septimus, 1668. It's a foggy day, which adds somewhat to Nikolai's discomfort. Felix decides to unbend a little bit and enjoy the fact that on ship, the chances of anyone trying to kill us are much reduced. We need to stop to take on cargo, so we get off the ship and walk around a little bit in Santa Andrea. Felix borrows a rapier so that nobody will remember a dude with a zweihander walking around the city. We go drinking along with some sailors. Nikolai picks one who has particularily irked him during the day's sailing and makes sure to drink him under the table. On the third bottle of wine, Léon punks out. On the fourth, the sailor hurls brutally. Nikolai celebrates his victory by finishing the sailor's bottle. We end up putting side bets on the drinking contest, with Felix wagering 5 on Nikolai and Léon 10... then 15! Sure enough, the Ussuran Titan wins out. Our interlocutor then admits that he has no funds to cover the bet. Léon offers some indulgence, but Felix does not. Felix takes his shitty little three penny knife and writes it off as a sad proof of the unreliability of his fellow man. Nikolai drags the unconscious sailor back to the boat, just to let everyone know where they stand. Léon asks questions about how one navigates a boat, and the frau who performs said function for this ship demonstrates some navigation for him.

After a couple more hours, we continue up the coast, heading for Malaca.
