Time for War!

Game log for the 2013/11/14 session of Brittania World, as taken by Jacko

Senica traveled to Deganwy to speak with King Bevin and his men concerning the northern menace. Bevin wasn't keen to have a siege as they'd starve to death in his unprepared fort. She was told to meet up with his scouts, led by a man named Derwin, to go see the size of the host for herself.

Corr had a talk with Nouanti about his arm and he reported it was the ghost legionnaires. Corr did his best to assist the man with his herb lore and faithful assistants. Corr's insights showed him that the affliction was unlike anything he'd seen before, a miasma of death infecting the arm that did not allow the flesh to speak to nature and especially Corr. He decided that the arm had to go and broached the subject with the man. Nouanti agreed and Corr went to fetch an axe and someone to use it.

Exuperata found her citizens impatient and idle and put them to work gathering supplies and building defenses. She tried to extol a sense of... urgency in them to dubious effect.

Back in Degenwy, Senica was finding herself at odds with Derwin. She desired to see the northern force on horseback and Derwin disagreed, threatening to have her horse speared if she didn't dismount. Senica said some harsh words and then one of Derwins men stuck his spear in the horse! Senica slashed the man to death and then ran off with her injured horse, heading back to Caerlegion.

Exuperata is invited to come attend Nouanti's impending surgery after Corr explained the 'evil' in his arm. The woodsman and Corr make the preparations and Nouanti is gotten good and drunk before the axe swings and the arm pops off. They burn the remnant and cauterize the wound. Corr looks over the wound and he has a sinking feeling it didn't work.

A few days later, the pickets see Senica riding back and she reports to Exuperata that Bevan's men attacked her. She saw that her horse was attended to and spoke to Corr about the ghost legion problem. She didn't think Bevin stood a chance and so Corr decided to go investigate the tower that Senica and Bran found in the woods. Exuperata thought this was a foolish idea when they approached her but she allowed Corr to go but forbade Senica from heading out. She pulls a dagger to drive her point home and Corr is forced to go by his lonesome. Except, not his lonesome, as he goes to consult his followers while Senica visits the captain of the guard, Luccy, that Corr needs a trio of bodyguards to accompany him on his voyage. Luccy readily agreed as Senica promised to stay.

Corr's followers thought he should get right with nature and the spirits and he was able to sway them to see that's what he intended. he met up with his armed bodyguards and traveled south. They were set upon by the ghost legionnaires, one of the men getting cut down while the others were wounded. Corr trusted in his faith and told the men to run back to Caerlegion, he would ward the ghosts away. He was stabbed many, many times.

The guards returned, reporting what happened and that Luccy had let them go with Corr. Luccy was brought forth to explain herself and she spilled the beans that Senica brought the idea up. Exuperata went to see Senica on the walls. They argue about what they'll do when the northmen come and Senica explains that since running west and east aren't options, south is the only way to retreat and the ghost legion is right in the way. She rides out to try and find Corr.

Senica opens her mind to the psychic maelstrom when she finds herself watched by dozens of the ghostly soldiers, pleading to them that Roman citizens need their help and defense. She's convinced that the citizens of Rome, including herself, are in a hopeless situation and filled with sadness. She eventually found Corr, who was surrunded by an aura of death. Senica kept him at length but accompanied him back to town.

Exuperata gathered her guards and reinforced who was in charge (Her) and which orders they should be obey (Hers). They were not to do leave the hold without her direct permission. Senica helps Corr into his infirmary and then reports to Exuperata. She tells her what she found concerning the ghost legionnaires. The lady isn't surprised and she turns her attention to Corr when he awakens.

Corr explains what happened with the ghost soldiers and is left to rest. A few days later, refugees begin arriving in town and King Bevin is among them, with a small retinue. Exuperata heads out to meet them and maintains her genial nature with her (former?) liege lord. She invites Bevin and the delegation in and finds out that he lead his men into the field against them, to no avail. She treated them with hospitality and then decided to take Emrys, Bevin's son, into her bedchamber and get 'acquainted' with him and then pump him for information on his fathers plans. Bevin doesn't have any designs on Caerlegion, which was her main worry. She briefly entertained thoughts of a political marriage but banished them from her mind and him from her chambers with a few lies and the gift a good Roman sword.
