Riven is a chemist, an alchemist, an artist, a free radical buried in the heart of Duskvol. That's his version. Others would say he's just a self-important weenie with a nice lab and an education. He does not believe in letting morals interfere with his science or his art, and so he deals freely with all manner of folk. During the war, he was entirely willing to deal with Skovlanders, despite the obvious war implications of having them running loose in the city. Clip ran up a bit of a tab late in the war, and then found himself absolutely unable to pay it when funding from home dried up. Clip has long since paid the actual debt, but since then Riven has run his operation on a strictly cash-and-carry basis, and he regards Clip as a uniquely undesirable type of scum for making a deal he couldn't hold up.
