Jotham Lentillus is a character in Rogue Trader: After the Gold Rush.

Lifepath

Noble Born -> Vaunted -> Zealot -> High Vendetta -> Pride -> Missionary.

  • Noble Born - Jotham's comes from a wealthy family with strong connections in the Fleet, the Guard, and various civilian trades.
  • Vaunted - despite those connections, Jotham always felt the call of the God-Emperor in his soul. Raised by such a powerful family, surrounded by ambition, he thought his long term destiny must be to become a Cardinal of the Adeptus Ministorum. His parents understood, as he did not, that without connections in the Ecclesiarchy, any such dream was nonsensical. Rather than simply forbidding him from pursuing a religious career, they sought to distract him with idle pleasures.
  • Zealot - Jotham possessed the same curiousities as any young man, and gave into temptation on many small occasions, but proved immovable on the greater scale. His growing religious fanaticism (Unnerving Clarity) convinced his family that allowing him his chosen path would be the least troublesome course. He joined the Ecclesiarchy and was assigned to missionary duty on a Fleet explorer ship. The expedition was still in the planning phase, but Jotham showed great promise. As his family feared, this attracted the attention of the family's political enemies.
  • High Vendetta - Rival families with strong Ecclesiarchical ties struck at him, then at his friends, and then at his family. Those enemies chose poorly, for in the service of the God-Emperor, Jotham counts not the cost, in wealth, in pain, nor in spilt blood. The vendetta ended in mutual exhaustion.
  • Pride - Jotham accepts that his determination to serve has cost his family and its allies dearly. He feels no guilt over this, but believes that any deviation from faith or mission would be to dishonor the sacrifices made thus far.
  • Missionary - cleanse.

Description

Jotham associates all luxury with the adolescent period where his family sought to tempt him away from his vocation. On the other hand, he is conscious of his position, and would never behave in any way that might weaken the prestige of the God-Emperor's humble acolyte. In the course of balancing these qualities, he has become thin, almost but not quite unhealthily so. His hair is tonsured and cut short, and he shaves his facial hair twice a day when possible, never emerging from his quarters with a hair out of place. With the skin stretched tight over strong cheek and jaw bones, his disapproving looks can be daunting, but many find his smile, lips stretched pale and almost bloodless over immaculately white teeth, even more disturbing. He maintains a strictly correct appearance, with his ship's uniform or Ecclessiarchy robe neat, allowed decorations worn exactly as specified, but no trace of personal vanity.

Typical Quote

"It does not surprise me when men give into fear; it surprises me that they fear anything more than disappointing the God-Emperor."
