Konstantine authorizes Adrian to cannibalize a cryotube in exchange for an agreement to act as Statis' doctor for three months. Babushka also agrees to act as Adrian's helper, time permitting.

Nastia's taking a break at Coffeemesto when suddenly automatic weapons fire breaks out on the street. Four soldiers in Imperial Army uniforms have started shooting up one of the buildings down the street. The soldiers then drag some people out onto the street and execute them. Template:Npctef is hanging out with then, so Nastia asks him to come over and fill her in. Apparently they're looking for medical supplies, so they raided the clinic and took their good stuff. Tambor reports that Corporal Zhukov has authority over that detachment. She sends a runner to Stasis to make sure Konstantine knows what his men have gotten up to, and then goes to talk to Zhukov. As she approaches, he orders her to carry supplies. She asks whether that includes Gregoriy, and when Zhukov indicates it does not, one of the other soldiers executes Gregoriy. Meanwhile, Tambor reminds everyone that the supplies in the clinic came out of Stasis because Konstantine and Natalya made a deal. Apparently the deal ended when Natalya went into the tank. The gang begins carrying supplies back to Stasis, but they're intercepted by the local law and have to run for it. Luckily the kids know this territory like the back of their hands and they lead the Constabulary on a merry chase through the tunnels under the ruined building next door. The building collapses on them, solving both the structural and legal risks in the situation.

Violetta, hanging around in the mess hall, hears shouting and screaming. She goes to see what's going on, but the moment she sticks her head out the door, she gets punched in the face. Some of her followers are fighting with the Stasis staff over rations. One of the soldiers escalates by producing a trench knife. Violetta sees the soldier about to gut Beauregard and yells for everyone to stop, but nobody listens. Beau gets gutted and she gets backhanded. At this point Babushka comes in and orders (via Direct Brain Projection) the soldier, Private Belyakov, to stop immediately. The Private stops what he's doing but remains combat ready and armed. Babushka sees that Collette and Sergeant Boris Nemtsov seem to be in charge of their respective factions. Babyshka's intervention gives both a chance to get their people under control. Balyakov accuses the seamstresses of stealing, and Collette admits they were, because they're all hungry. Babushka announces that she will calculate an optimal ration plan to ensure fair food allocations to all. Nemtsov announces that he will put the rations under lock and key; Babushka says she will take an accurate inventory.

Violetta tries to get her people to explain what happened, but they're more concerned with what happened to Beauregard. Violetta decides to go with Constance to find someone in authority with whom she can negotiate, and she starts with Babushka. Babushka's in the infirmary, watching Adrian breathe some sort of healing liquid mojo. (She has three hold on In-Brain Puppet Strings.) Constance immediately feels weirded out by the weird lady staring at the man and tries to drag Violetta away. When Babushka notices and looks at them, Constance gives in to fear and shoves Violetta bodily out of the room.

Violetta heads to the situation room instead, and asks to speak to the General. She's admitted, as Konstantine takes a break from discussions with the Archduke. Konstantine leads Violetta into the ready room, where she and Constance tell the General about the skirmish. Stasis as a whole is not overly well supplied on food, so the troops are on short rations, which the civilians interpret as a starvation diet. The General orders a military tribunal. As they talk, the orderly leads Nastia into the room, who tells Konstantine about the raid on the clinic. Konstantine judges he can win the loyalty of the seamstresses by putting them back to work in some practical fashion. He dismisses them and gets back to military stuff.

After they leave, Phoebe hands Violetta some crackers.

Konstantine finds out that Corporal Zhukov undertook the raid on his own initiative, and lays down some law. The General then personally escorts the Corporal (who's obviously sick) to sickbay. When they arrive, Babushka has just decanted Adrian. As they talk, Tatiana decants herself... even though she was already defrosted. Weird. Konstantine orders Babushka to slow the rate of cryorevivals to focus more on successful revival and on the welfare of those already awakened.

Adrian examines Corporal Zhukov and discovers that his lungs are a total mess. He needs new lungs. That will require finding a compatible set of lungs. Of course, we do have a lot of insane people who have to be kept sedated, so maybe some lungs could be found. In the meantime, into the tank with Zhukov!

Nastia, overhearing all these rumours of trouble in Stasis, begins making contigency plans and storing away some stuff for a rainy day. She also tells Babushka where some good grey civvy fabric and related sundries could easily be stolen, which would set up the tailors in business.

Adrian reports to the General that the Corporal will need a lung transplant. The General promises a decision on the matter of human sacrifice / transplantation within 24 hours. He then goes to talk to Tatiana and tries to persuade her to sleep in a bunk and not a pod. She doesn't respond especially well to his attempt to manipulate her.

When Violetta next wakes up, she finds Babushka waiting near her bunk, watching her. Yikes. Babushka explains about the civilian fabric and the need for clothes, and allows Violetta to assume that the sewing work will be in exchange for rations. Violetta tries to read Babushka but utterly fails; she can't figure out where Babushka's coming from at all. Babushka also assures her that they don't need the General's permission for all this. Without sewing machines, the work will be slow, but it can be done.

Nastia asks Tatiana to train her gang in crazy ninja Spetznaz combat moves. Tatiana agrees without question.

Babushka and Adrian discuss Zhukov's situation. Babushka really wants to advance the transplant scheme. Adrian's getting worried that Babushka has gone beyond any bounds in her programming, but he can't tell for sure.

Babushka goes to check on the Glockov, the crazy guy whose lungs they need. He's insane and shows no signs of recovering, so she kills him with her brain. Adrian sees it happen and while he doesn't know exactly how, he knows she killed the soldier with her brain.

The previous night, at dinner, Konstantine talks with the Archduke about the ethics of organ transplantation. The Archduke sees no moral qualm here at all - a man can be sacrificed. The heir feels discomfort, so Konstantine puts him on the spot. Before he can answer, the Archduke remarks that the boy seems "trepidacious."

In the morning, Konstantine sees Slotkin dead, with a neural patterner attached to his head. Babushka and Adrian tell a story about how they were checking his sanity in the hope he improved, but the General can see that she lied to him. So, murderous robot running the asylum, what a fun development! But now we have some organs, so that's good for Zhukov.

Violetta comes back to sickbay to ask about that replacement hand she keeps hoping for, but she stops short when she sees them with their hands full of lungs and such. Once the lung transplant's done, Adrian goes off to begin sketching prosthetic hands. Meanwhile, Babushka and Violetta talk about the sort of clothes they need.

Also Babushka is now a backronym for Beta Artificial Brain Utility / Synthetic Kryonics Attendant. The log has spoken.

Said Assistant goes to visit Tatania, who's busy teaching kids to hurt people. She tells the Lieutenant about Glockov and Zhukov. Tatiana's OK with the news. Shit happens. Tatiana reminds Babushka that Glockov, now that he's dead, will tell everyone what happened to him. Babushka hastens to remind her that Glockov was unreliable, by which she means violently insane. She als reminds Tatiana that she's always her to counsel her, so Tatiana, thinking about how weird the General was acting the previous night, asks Babushka to keep an eye on him and keep him from going crazy.

Babushka goes to find the General. She finds him at lunch with the Archduke, who's never seen an android before. He wonders if she's anatomically correct. Since she's there to provide a status report, the Archduke listens with interest. She reports success in the lung transplant and with the civilian clothing project.

Later that day, the Archduke starts making it with the machine. Who, given time and intimacy with someone, can really mess them up. Nastia sees them doing it in the corner, jumps to the wrong conclusion, and rushes in to stop the bad man. The Archduke, quite surprised to be interrupted in what he thought was an empty space, tries to convince her that this was an, ahem, scientific investigation. Babushka, meanwhile, assures the Archduke that Nastia won't talk. Now that their clinch has broken, the amourous encounter ends, but the damage is done: Babushka has scanned his brain. He's a political creature, and he's fascinated by artificial poontang. His secret pain is that he really always wanted to be a sculptor, but the life he's actually led has turned him into someone he despises. The Archduke's lowest moment came when he realized his son is probably unfit for command.
