Nice amulet, but we'll leave it here

Game log for the 2018/03/11 session of Blades in the Dark: The Dunslough Cartographic Society, as taken by Jason

Fitz asks the Dunslough Cartography Society to stop by her place. When we arrive, she's telling one of her servants to prepare the seaweed scones for later. She has a maid bring in tea. One of her colleagues (a Bluecoat inspector) has come into possession of some "curiousities" that she can't resist. Of course, it can't just spontaneously appear in Fitz's parlor, so she'd like to know where the items came from. She'd like us to put an item in the colleagues' house, such that she might gather more information. She leads us to a different room and shows the item to us - it's a silver candlestick, with rings of gemstones around the base. Washout tries to read her and see if she's being honest when she says it's just a listening device. She seems to be telling the truth and she's happy to talk about it.

Dr Oz inspects the candlestick and figures out that there's a ghost inside it.

We go in the evening. The mark lives on a canal, and the Society has access to maps and passkeys, so we know that we can just boat up to it and enter through the ground floor. We easily make our way into the wine cellar. The Inspector isn't home right now, so things around the house are pretty relaxed. It's a three story house. We're in the basement, the first floor has the kitchen, dining area, parlor, etc, the second floor is servant quarters, and the third floor is the master's quarters. We need to get the candlestick to an amulet shaped like an icosahedron, located in the study.

Pool surveys the house, with Clip's help, trying to figure out the movement patterns in the lower levels. She does so by hiding in the dumbwaiter, and it's working great, until someone on a higher level begins pulling up on it. Washout quickly undoes the bottom pulley of the dumbwaiter, which gets Pool out of the jam, but obviously the servants are going to come and investigate. We pull Pool out of the dumbwaiter and get the hell out.

Pool leads Washout up to the study, which is a pain in her ass because he keeps wanting to look around. They see the amulet right away, because it's fist-sized. It's pitch black and it seems to have star patterns on it. Washout walks right up to it and begins studying it, while Pool figures out where to place the candlestick. She determines that putting it behind one of the decorative items on his bookshelves would work best, but she keeps second-guessing the placement, because it also has to be able to hear. With all the time passing, the risk of a servant walking in on them increases. She eventually puts it inside a wicker basket near the window, which is currently full of parchments and stuff. By rearranging the items inside, she's able to obscure the candlestick.

A servant comes down to fix the dumbwaiter, but Clip and Dr Oz are able to avoid any notice while hiding in the wine cellar.

On the way down, it's Washout's turn to keep Pool from getting noticed. They're just getting to the first floor when the head butler dismisses the servants. There's no time to survey the situation, they just need to move fast. They slide down the bannister and get clear of the stairwell before any of the servants arrive. They run down to the wine cellar and we all leave the way we came in.

Washout and Pool both spend downtime indulging their vices and training. Clip trains and works with Jeren to ensure that the burglary case with the Bluecoats gets routed to someone who won't make any effort to investigate it. Dr Oz trains and begins work on Unsealing the Map of Esketra (that being the amulet). It's a six-tick clock, and he's got one segment filled in. Pool's investigation of the amulet led him to notice that the constellations on the amulet don't appear in the same order as they would in the actual night sky. It's probably a slider puzzle.
