When the world ended, what let some people survive, when others couldn’t? Those who live are, of necessity, better at forgiving themselves for what they've done.
The riot/march taking place at the Arsenal has taken the heat off our merry bad of revolutionaries and coffee drinkers. We don't think the Striyanka knows that there's a cell operating out of Coffeemesto. Konstantine, Inga, Maxim, Rada, and Pavel will be heading out after dark to make the run and grab supplies from the infirmary. As they move down the street, that pass an ancient babushka who recognizes Konstantine. She identifies herself as Sveta, youngest daughter of Konstantine's youngest sister Anya. It's been 114 years since he saw her. She lives at #10 Dubrovksy and he promises to go visit her. Pavel asks how old the Major must be now, but Konstantine deflects him, not wanting to admit to being 146 years old. Anyway, they make it to the building OK, and have no trouble getting to the third floor. Rada takes a peek around the corner and reports that here's one constable posted around the door. Konstantine asks the little girls to distract him and draw him out of position, but it's actually Rada and Maxim who try to convince him to go help their dear old Tanta Inga who needs help. He tells them he'll summon someone who can help and blows the whistle. Konstantine tells Pavel they need to hide, and maybe try again when the hubbub has died down. Inga goes to drag the other kids off, giving the cop a fake address, and then they run off.
Konstantine and Pavel end up hiding out on the fifth floor, while the urchins go scrambling across the rooftops to escape. Inga barely makes the jump and her weight starts to tear the flashing away. Maxim jumps next and just misses, bouncing off a drain pipe on the way down and falling six stories. Inga sees this and tells Rada to wait. Konstantine hears the scream and he and Pavel jog to the end of the hall, where they look down the fire escape and see Maxim's dead body. They both go running to the roof to help the kids. Konstantine jumps across... almost. He was kicking off from the flashing on his building and it completely gave way, giving him no leverage. He scrapes his face down along the brick as he falls, tries to push off, ends up spinning, and lands on Maxim, face down. His face gets shattered completely. He's lying there trying to get his brain to work when two constables looking for a rabid dog enter the alley. Konstantine dares not get caught and prepares to kill them both.
A man in a trenchcoat knocks on the door at Coffeemesto. Semyon recognizes him as a Striyanka inspector. He tries to brush off the pig with a story about the place being closed for a steam leak, but the inspector insists on asking questions. Semyon comes outside to talk. The man asks whether Semyon knows what happened to the two Striyanka who went missing yesterday. Semyon assures him that the men left right away, but the inspector insists on searching the establishment. He threatens Semyon with various enforcement measures. Semyon refuses to buckle but offers to try to deliver up the girl. The inspector gives him until dawn. Semyon then runs downstairs and tells Oksana to get out immediately, because this whole place is going to be crawling with Striyanka at down.
Natalya talks to Semyon about getting fresh papers for Oksana. Papers and some quick moves to change her appearance could get her out from under. He asks her to put the word out for someone who could help move Oksana to the St Stanislaus hospital. He talks into a speaking tube to ask for Igor, and an hour later, Igor is there. Nobody sees him come in. He's just there, drinking the coffee already. Semyon asks him to help move Oksana, and Igor's willing, in exchange for 2-barter. Deal.
Konstantine, out of time and options, kills a Constable with his AK. The other one jumps around the corner and starts blowing his whistle. Now it's on. The grandchildren hear the small arms fire and cop whistles starting. That clears out the cop in front of the infirmary door, so Pavel and Rada could probably get their loot on. Konstantine comes around the corner at the second cop and riddles him with bullets, just absolutely mangles him, and that spectacle keeps the next round of cops from chasing him too vigorously. Pabel and Rada loot the place, meet up with Inga, and meet their cousin Anton on the way back.
Natalya opens her mind for guidance on what to do next and has a vision of her mentor, Dr Zhivago. He advises her to get Oksana out of the way, and that Konstantine can be a source of infinite opportunity or infinite trouble. Konstantine smells like gunpowder and has a warm AK. That's not usually a good sign in Murmansk. Natalya gets to work, pumping the Major full of medications and trying to nudge his face bones back into place. As she works, Pavel and the urchins return, and they introduce Anton to the adults. Semyon offers him the usual deal, food and shelter for work. They brought the equipment necessary to set up an infirmary.
Igor returns in the promised hour, and Natalya hands Oksana off to him. She carries a letter of introduction from Natalya, to assure the Stanislausians that she has the skills to be of service in their hospital if they'll give her sanctuary. While Oksana says her goodbyes, Pavel approaches Konstantine, and demands to know where the time machine is. For emphasis, he sticks a hypodermic needle in Konstantine's neck and begins injecting him with some really bad shit. After a few words, Konstatine finally bellows "you stupid fuck, there is NO TIME MACHINE!" Ruslan rolls over and takes a potshot at Pavel. Pavel, realizing that his plan isn't working so well, tries to barricade himself in a tunnel entrance behind a gurney. "Everyone get back! I'm going back and you can't stop me!" Semyon tries to tell Pavel that he can't go back to the infirmary. Pavel says that he's not talking about the infirmary, he's talking about how the Major is from the past, and he's going there. Konstantine tries to explain about Stasis but Pavel doesn't believe him. Semyon tries to talk Pavel down but can't.
Pavel asks for Rada. Semyon asks why; Pavel explains that since the kids found the time machine, they can lead him to it. Konstantine pulls his revolver but Pavel is too quick for him and jams the plunger in, which kills the Major. Rada tries to attack Pavel next and gets her throat slit with a scalpel. Now it's Semyon's turn to charge the orderly and for once, something goes right for someone. Semyon connects directly to Pavel's face, knocking him down, and then kicks him repeatedly for good measure.
Semyon then checks on Rada, who cannot be helped, and then summons Natalya to treat the Major. She almost loses him - he was having a pretty bad day before the embolism - but manages to stabilize him. Konstantine will not die but cannot be moved for 36 hours.
Semyon and Natalya decide that maybe, if they give back the medical supplies, then the Striyanka might leave without searching too carefully, since it would demonstrate that Semyon wished to cooperate.
Meanwhile, the kids decide that maybe Pavel had a point - they could go back to where they found the Major and look for the time machine.
Inspector Kevashian returns and finds that Semyon has come up with the missing supplies. He laughs and compliments the barrista on being a man of his word, and assures him that they will eventually find the girl. The Striyanka take the medical supplies and leave.
