Phoebe actually created the first "pocket," but she is mute, and desperately afraid of people and attention. Violetta is a strong determined woman, whose main purpose is to make the lives of women easier in this desperate world. She hates the flamboyance and rituals of the Orthodoxy, but doesn't outwardly express those feelings to just anyone. She keeps friends in high and low places. She believes she can be more successful by paying lip service to the Orthodoxy, while using her skills as a fashion design to spur on the changes she wants to see in society. Her most notable accomplishment so far is inventing pockets for women on the inside of clothing. V has a staff of 20 carefully chosen assistants seamstresses, etc., who share her disdain of all the excess pomp and circumstance in the world.
