Koral of Geldryss is a character in Harn: Clawing for Power.
Koral was also known as Koral the Bloody.
Biography
Starting out as an enforcer, Koral had beaten, murdered, and extorted his way to the top, and the Coranan Lia Kavair’s attitudes toward other organizations mirrored Koral’s attitudes toward other people; either they bowed down in fear and gave tribute or they would be crushed and made to lament the error of their ways. In addition to his own forceful personality, Koral had surrounded himself with the roughest, meanest criminals that Coranan's streets had produced over the past decade, forming a surprisingly loyal core group of “Senior Masters,” all of whom were seasoned killers.
Korals death at the hands of Liakos of Malthain and Synainova of Jaal came about as a result of his arrogance and greed. He threatened Kraebor of Malthain after a hit was performed in Coranan turf without prior authorization. Koral demanded that Kraebor and his crew pay him half of their assets directly from then on, which Kraebor agreed to. They kept the agreement for only a month, using the time to scout his secret tunnel network and eliminate some Corani thieves.
Liakos was running crime in Kotros after deposing Baran of Whartol because of Kraebors imprisonment at the hands of Cadulus of Rutagor. Kavon of Logue was sent into western Coranan, assuming the alias Navok, and began running gambling games at The Stake inn. He sought out Zak Farthing to garner protection for a cut of his gambling profits. Zak introduced him to Molis of Ukrist, the odds-maker for the Pamesani games. Kavon began working for Molis, eventually earning a position of trust in working the gladiatorial games. This enabled him to provide intelligence to Liakos through hidden messages and couriers like Sir Bail.
An unsuccessful attempt on his Korals life was made two days after Liakos paid tribute for the first time. Most of the Kotros Guilds killers infiltrated the Corani guildhouse but sprung a trap that partially collapsed a floor. They were able to beat a retreat with their wounded and suspicions were cast but nothing immediately came of it until an assassin, Sams the Fletcher, tried to kill Liakos in the street.
Kraebor killed some of Korals lieutenants during a particularly bloody night and Enthor killed another, as well as getting Argon of Yelt imprisoned, though Enthor was grievously wounded. Zak Farthing was with Argon during the attempt on Enthors life and he had fled to escape imprisonment. He later fled Coranan in fear of his life at failing Koral. Clem of Ager was Zak's boss, and so he became Kavon's boss while he was working at The Stake.
Clem was killed in the streets by teamsters not long after Zak fled. Koral decided to teach the teamsters a lesson, focusing on Uven of Gelt, who was the de facto leader and attempting to have the teamsters guilded. Uven was beaten to a pulp and another teamster was killed and gruesomely put on display.
The feud with the teamsters would become the rallying cry for Liakos to build an alliance with the Kuseme Guild and Omagil Guild against Koral. The Thard Lia Kavair were solid allies of Korals and so a plan was hatched to drive a wedge between them, centered around two fugitive tanners. They had earned the ire of Caldan One-Eye and so intelligence from Kavon was used to steal them away from Koral and place Faygin of Beck, one of the Thard underbosses, as the culprit. Faygin was killed and the Thard guildmaster, Dewell of Joltruin had to answer for it, separating Koral from one of his staunchest allies.
