In the 40k universe, light cruisers straddle the boundary between small fry and major warships. On the one hand, private citizens of sufficient wealth can plausibly aspire to one day obtain a decommisioned light cruiser. On the other hand, casual pirates and raiders who hope to prey on Rogue Traders will think twice before tangling with a light cruiser - or else they will never think anything again.
