Brother Lysander is a character in Rogue Trader: After the Gold Rush.
Description
Brother Lysander is an ancient, cantankerous Dreadnought formerly of the Imperial Fists 5th Company. A Technomat by training and inclination, he originally hailed from a long-lost Imperial Forge World in the Gothic Sector that was consumed by a Chaos invasion. He survived his trials and was inducted into the 10th Company Scouts in late M35 where he served with distinction. As a Scout, he exhibited an ability to size up the strengths and weaknesses of enemy positions and fortifications quickly and accurately with the merest glance, as well as a real genius for dealing as much damage as possible to fortifications with as few friendly losses as possible. He rose through the Imperial Fists companies, and was sent to Mars for training as a Techmarine.
It was as a Techmarine in the 5th Company where Brother Lysander served for over two centuries until he was grievously wounded in a long campaign against the hated Iron Warriors. His experience, vast knowledge of siege tactics, and his unique insights were deemed so important to the Chapter that he was honoured with being placed in a Dreadnought so that he could continue to serve. Not long after, he was deployed to the backwater world of Haldr at the very edges of the Imperium to stop an incursion of the Iron Warriors and Thousand Sons traitor legions. On Haldr he lead a doomed stand at the gates of a Mechanicus shrine, was overrun with elements of two long dead Astartes chapters, and was forced to retreat to a previously prepared bunker to regroup. Safe in their bunker, Brother Lysander and four battle-brothers made their plans and healed, only to be buried under a kilometre of rubble by a desperate planetary bombardment by their own forces. It was in this tomb that the five Space Marines lay in stasis for four millennia until they were recently exhumed by forces from House Machariel.
Left at Watch Station Erioch by Marneus Machariel, Brother Lysander was reunited with elements of the Iron Fists operating in the Jericho Reach. He was welcomed by his brothers with open arms, and immediately set about making a new place for himself among these new Marines. Now after being reassigned to the 3rd Company under Brother-Captain Bartel, he has been educating himself about the state of the Imperium, his Chapter, the Koronus Expanse, the Calixis Sector, and any other information he can devour from the Chapter's spacegoing libraria. After much discussion with Brother-Captain Bartel, the 3rd Company has set out to find Marneus Machariel and repay what they see as a debt of honour for returning them their long-lost brother.
Lysander was reunited with his rescuers aboard Machariel Station when the 3rd Company arrived in search of Marneus and the crew of STV Solo Drakban. His hull had been repainted, he was draped in commendations and glory, and Qui irascitur odiet had been painted on each shoulder in High Gothic.
