Cerebus Station
Game log for the 2026/06/07 session of Starforged - The Onyx Reach, as taken by Joe
We start at Timmion's Run. A yellow star system. A rocky planet with a massive impact crater. No water and corrosive atmosphere. But one of its moons is where the colony is, Cerberus.
There are lights but not ATC. One ship sits on a pad, the Black Veil (a corvette). We know that they are nomadic and that the Black Veil is their main asset. We land without ATC and find a shitload of cargo containers waiting to be loaded.
Doc and JP are checking out the containers out while Dex and Rook EVA to the corvette. Johannes hears the docking clamps engage, frowns, and sets to getting them to disengage.
Rook leads the way to the Black Veil and notes signs of a firefight. Rook tries to scavenge a corpse but it was holding a grenade, which went off. They enter the ship's airlock and find two more corpses. One is in a suit, but the other is not and is very bloated.
JP and Doc check out the containers. They find foodstuff and algae slurry. JP cracks open a container and finds a desiccated corpse. Doc takes samples from the corpse. Meanwhile, JP manually connects the docking umbilical.
Dex enters the ship while Rook covers him, but the door only opens part-way. Dex and Bernie can make it, Rook has to force it open to enter. The internal door opens and shows that the ship is under emergency lighting. Rook leads the way to the bridge.
The keypad lights up and we're told to fuck off. We chat with the owner of the voice and its clear he just wants to leave. He knows that docking control on level C2 but takes some coaxing to talk about what is going on inside the station. "Some kind of infestation."
He says that his name is Jones. He's one of the Black Veil crew. He just wants to leave but he hasn't heard from his chain of command in 16 hours. He says that he has 5-6 crew with him and can get out of here if we release the ship.
Rook and Dex head back to their ship. Johannes hears a distress call. Cerebus station reports that they are under attack from a life form that are "like mean millipedes". They've been under siege for 6 days. They report that they are in Engineering sub-basement 3 and are cut of from life support.
We enter the station and headed toward Docking Control all suited up. We travel through the station until we get to a cross-over passage with a hanging curtain of hairy spines that have golf-ball to softball sized sacs at their tips. JP starts frying the sacs with a cutting torch, which takes a while.
We continue into Docking Control and find dissolved bodies - both cloth and flesh are melted. Then we hear the skittering.
Johannes and Doc Endure Harm from the bugs crawling on them. JP comes to Johannes' aid and helps secure the room. Johannes can't get the bug off. Doc blasts away at the bug eating her. Rook is fighting off the bugs but gets snacked on by a bug coming up from the floor. Dex goes for the docking clamps with Bernie and gets things moving.
The fight goes poorly for JP. Johannes is wrestling with another. Rook strikes at the one attacking him but can't get it off. Doc lights a torch but can't burn the big off. Dex gets deeper into the docking control system.
Rook cuts the bug out him and secures the room. The bugs are dead or disappear. Dex tries to gain control of docking and gets the clamps to release but the emergency power batteries are depleted. We can't free the Black Veil ship. Boo hoo.
Doc heals everyone. We use the console to contact the station personnel. We're promised salvage rights on the station if we free them (formidable). Johannes calls the Black Veil with the offer to free them if they take the station crew, but they won't commit to the deal.
JP tries to figure out what's going on. Place went into quarantine 26 days ago - right after some medical supplies were delivered. Dex digs into the colony's history and finds that they've had setbacks from the beginning. Most of what's happened in the last 10 years is that they've serviced the Black Veil ship.
Bernie cuts through doors to get into Med Bay and Doc resupplies. JP sees that the crates are marked Careworn Associates shipped from Justin Wannamaker and were signed for by Morten Cartwright.
Doc opens one of the crates and there are more of the hairy things in cryo. She takes a picture of it and closes the crate. We proceed to Engineering but we find more bugs in the enclosed space ahead of us. Bernie and Dex activate the fire suppression system and the bugs attack each other.
We open the door and go through to the old mine, the original core of the asteroid - a fast track to Engineering. There don't appear to be bugs; maybe because there's no atmosphere?
We climb through the mine and make it to the airlock on the far side. We find the survivors in the Engineering section's cafeteria - about 400 people. Two dozen of them are wearing Black Veils.
All they know is that something got out in Med Bay 26 days ago and they've been trapped inside the cafeteria as the bugs burrowed through the station. They tell us that Morten Cartwright is still alive and Rook goes to collect the debt he owes.
He confesses that what he owes was in Med Bay (the crates) but he wasn't able to reship them before they got out. He blames the Black Veil for fucking up the deal.
Rook takes him while Johannes talks to the Black Veil guys about getting the people off the station. The teflon bipolar flux needs to be reset in order to power Docking Control back up. We use Bernie to activate the fire suppression system on our path but we enter a room where the halon didn't go off.
We make progress but one of the Black Veil guys blows a hole in a wall. We're venting atmosphere. Half the people are through, the other half retreat behind another bulkhead. Dex manages to fix the leak and Johannes rushes people through.
We crank up the batteries and release the docking clamps. The Black Veils take off. We make a connection with the Black Veils, an engineer named Aldis Dunbar. He is Dangerous.
Morten tries to talk us into taking the samples with us, but Rook pushes him forward. Rook confines Morten on our ship. We vent the entire station, destroy the Med Bay crates. We find a data core, take the cargo crates, and leave.
