The Body Swap Blues
Game log for the 2017/04/23 session of Wanderers, as taken by Joe
The band takes the warbus up the Elevator. Jack Link leads me, Ace, and the other infected folks up a trail along the cliff face. Spoonman didn’t pay the lifestyle, so we’re heading up the hot trail without food or water. He is now officially a bitch.
Back in the village, Spoonman tells the band to fuck off. Then he tells them he’s going to use them to set the explosives in the tunnel. They have a “labor action” and refuse to help Spoon unless fed.
We start up the switchbacks. Jack, me, Sekhmet, Horus, Bastet, and Ace. There’s a rockslide, Ace tells me to duck left, but I get clipped by a rock and fall. I’m unconscious on a ledge about 5 stories below. My right leg and left arm are broken. Sekhmet threatens Jack into not leaving me. Jack makes some splints and Horus brings them down to help Ace.
I’m bleeding out and Jack’s being a rather too fatalistic, so Sekhmet asks Jack to help. He sighs and points to a cave halfway up the trail. We get to the top by morning. I’m in shock and not going to make it without medical help.
We wake the next morning and there’s Spoonman and the Taco Truck. I’m scared but I have no choice. I find out later that Sekhmet sacrificed Horus for the parts Spoonman needs. I wake up heavier and taller, but still with the Fix. I’m wearing Horus’ body, which is bigger than my old one. Sekhmet explains what’s happened to me in the the last 24 hours. I’m sorry Horus died but now that I’m alive, I seem to share a lot with him and he becomes my guide in the psychic maelstrom.
Spoonman tells us that we’re headed east to the Spires. This raises everyone’s spirits because that was my prophecy when the band picked me up in the desert. We get there and see the gigantic orange towers.
The town is in the basin, with Traz the Citadel overlooking everything from atop a tall rock. The acoustics are awesome. Me and the band look for a place to set up and play a memorial concert for Horus. The trouble is that we don’t want to risk slipping past the gate guards since I still have the Fix.
The band and I set up busking gigs on street corners. We don’t care about money. I want to get my rep out on the street in advance of the memorial concert we’re going to hold later. A crowd starts to hassle Ace and I remember that he’s the one who carried me out of the canyon.
We start to play. The song’s about pain, suffering, and sacrifice. I make the noise that the citizens of Rome heard when Spartacus’ army smashed open their gates. The crowd looks up at the Traz, the symbol of their oppressors, and throw themselves against the town wall. They’ve got an old Greyhound bus lined up against one of the gates and they’re trying to force an entry. The band and I are jamming full out.
The Greyhound accelerates toward the gate. A shot goes past my head. I look up and see some asshole with a sniper rifle standing next to Fifi on the wall. The only way out is to run. We un-ass the area and get back to the bus.
Shit’s hot around the gate. Ace goes in hot, but he hits Fifi. She goes down and I look helplessly, desperately trying to think how I could help.
