Damrina runs a brothel called the Painted Lady. She is attended to by her bodyservant, the young Tamarel. Unknown to the city, there is a convocation of magicians. The true secret is that the leader of the convocation, Volmassus, is the leader of an Archonian death cult that wants to summon a demon to destroy the city.

Volmassus sends a spy to the Painted Lady but the spy’s mission is interrupted. The cult makes its plan and attends a dinner at the Painted Lady. While they feast, Tamarel, who is really a magic-eating night whisp, follows the spy and eats his magic, preventing him from achieving his goal.

Set wants to subvert the death cult’s ritual and force the demon to serve him.

There’s an elemental who digs a tunnel to get into the catacombs without going through the Painted Lady’s basement.

Something happens

The death cult starts its ritual. Tamarlen follows Damrina into the catacombs. He sees the ritual and starts feasting on the magic users.

Something happens to Set, who retreats. The ritual doesn’t work and the catacombs start to crumble around their ears.
