As derogatory a term as can be found among [[Voidmen]], a Landsman is a low-skilled menial worker aboard a ship good for little more than hauling on a cable or serving slop in the crew's mess. These unfortunates are typically farm boys, street urchins, hive scum, madmen, and common labourers swept up in ports by a ship's press gang. They are expected to do little more than what they're told and, occasionally, act as cannon fodder in boarding actions.
