= PCs =

* Vestrum Firewheel, The Dwarf (Jason). Vestrum is accompanied by his second cousin Hannar Firewheel, a Berserker. Vestrum is of the Red Hills Firewheels, while Hannar's branch of the clan hails from the Cloud Peaks.
* Tanis Greenleaf, The Elf (Gary)
* Raatma Bloodeye, The Orc (Jake)
* Bulgarath of the Red Ashes, The Harbinger (Tim)
* Baldric Curseender, The Squire (Joe)
* Geria of Tarsyna, The Heir (Lisa). Geria is accompanied by her bodyguard, Walrick, and her servant, Kaius. The name is pronounced with a hard G.

= Rumors =

* Vestrum has heard that there are many people vying to lead Tarsynan resistance against the Clockwork Prince, not just Geria.
* Geria has heard that Bulgarath does vile magick, like baby-eating vile.
* Bulgurath has heard that turncoats in the Hearthguard moved the coup along.
* Baldric has heard that Elves made a deal with the Clockwork Prince. They gave Lord Adder the spell to put on the King, in exchange for being spared.
* Tanis has heard that Grashnak is just an excuse the Orcs made up to break other people's stuff.
* Raatma has heard that Dwarves are born out of living rock, not to Dwarven women

= Initial questions =

* Tarsyna was hit first and hardest
* The Clockwork Prince has mostly ignored the Elves of Bramblehyde
* The Clockwork Prince has done the impossible by moving his forces through Frostmark into the Karak Steppes. Fellwatch was built by Dwarves and manned by Tarsynans to guard the pass between Camoria and Tarsyna, so he should not have been able to move anywhere without being seen.

The capitol of Tarsyna, Shadowmere, is roughly in the center of the nation. The Amber Throne is there, and gives the kingdom its nickname of "the Amber Kingdom."
Vestrum is maybe not entirely in the dungeon, but his room is dry, cold, austere, and locked. It's a day before anyone comes to see him, and when they do, it's Prince {{npcref|Gaznar}}, with servants bearing a lavish repast. The Prince and Vestrum confer, and Vestrum complains bitterly that his imprisonment is illegal and demonstrates the King's flawed judgement.

General {{npcref|Hazmadar}} comes to the rooms where the rest of the Fellowship are staying and asks to speak to Geria. He wants her to fight under Azadar's banner, rallying the unaligned among Tarsyna to fight against the Clockwork Prince. She accepts, hoping that many will change sides when they discover that they have the choice. Hazmadar mentions that the Dwarves may march soon, with just one Colossus, to make sure they strike the first blow. He tells the Fellowship to ready themselves to march in three days. Geria indicates that it won't happen without Vestrum. General Hazmadar departs.

Once the Fellowship have privacy, Raatma immediately urges the group to demand Vestrum's freedom, or else seize it. Geria and Baldric goes to talk to King Azadar. Bulgarath, Tanis, and Raatma attempt to see Vestrum.

Vestrum's suite in the deep cells is of course guarded, and the Fellowship are recognized immediately. The guard has no orders to allow visitors, and no particular desire to allow any. The guard says maybe they'd like to wait for him to go off shift, in three days. He prides himself on how long he can stay awake. Tanis demonstrates that he's actually quite tired and needs to go to sleep immediately. The three of them walk on past the guard, verify that the cell is locked, and set Vestrum free. They begin walking to the throne room.

King {{npcref|Azadar}} seems happy to see Geria, but he's fairly committed to keeping Vestrum locked up. He's had these curious visions, you see... but he'll release Vestrum if Geria will ride with him at the head of the host. He asks her to approach, that they might seal their pact. Bulgarath uses his magic to whisper in Baldric's ear that Vestrum is free. He immediately asks her to hold so he can whisper this news in her ear. She suggests to the King that he'll need time to write out the terms, and she'll wait in her chambers.

Bulgarath, Raatma, Tanis, and Vestrum decide to go see Baron Ulgnor, trying to pick the less-used passages, and smells some guards just a little before she rounds the corner. The estate was under surveillance, and now three sturdy dwarves are charging the miscreants who freed Vestrum. The first guard sends Vestrum flying, and when he finally comes to a stop, he's unconscious and bleeding from the head. That really angers Raatma, and in three shakes of an orc's broken axe, she's killed them all.

When Vestrum knocks on the Baron's door, his servant yanks them inside, muttering about getting inside before we're seen. The Baron thinks it may already be too late, but he won't move without conferring with the Prince. Vestrum thinks they won't have time for that, so he and the Fellowship go to work while the Baron and Prince get their heads together.

Baron Ulgnor sees Geria in the Citadel and tells them that Vestrum is fine, and they may want to come with him to see the Prince. Once they're together, the Baron tells Prince Gaznar that it's time to depose his father. The Prince is not ready for this moment.

The direct action group are headed for the Colossus. They meet with some guards and prepare for the worst, but the guards haven't been told of Vestum's arrest, so in the event, the gang just walks on past, looking for the right place. Captain Vleng escorts them personally. Vestrum starts trying to sound him out, and figures that while the Captain won't take sides, he thinks leading the dwarven host would be good for the Prince, helping to establish his legitimacy. When they get to the right spot, Vestrum says it would be a pity if something happened in the tunnel there, and Tanis does some Elven nerve pinch mojo on him.

Raatma and Vestrum identify the right place to aim the junk cannon in the passage, and the junk cannon triggers a collapse in the ore seam they were originally following when they dug this tunnel. 200 yards of tunnel fall down.

The Prince and the King are arguing when there's a very tactile thud. The Prince is telling the King that he's playing into the Clockwork Prince's hands, the King is yelling that the Prince is a traitor. The two humans begin looking for an escape route, and someone fires a crossbow. Baldric tries to leap out a stained glass window, but he's not strong enough to break the window. Instead, he bounces back into the path of a crossbow bolt. There's a dwarf running at Geria, so she draws her sword and keeps him at bay long enough for something to distract him, and then she hauls Baldric to his feet. She tells him that if the King wins, Taryna loses, and Balrdic says she has his sword. A member of the King's guard says he knew it was a mistake to let humans talk to the Prince, and attacks Geria. Baldric interposes himself and keeps the guard busy, while Geria finishes him off. Another guard throws an axe at her, and she ducks under it, then moves in on him. Baldric tries to follow up and do away with him, but the guard is able to stab Baldric with a dagger from his offhand, then reverse and clock Geria. Baldric tries to press him, using his height advantage, but the dwarf gets in under his guard and stabs him again, while Geria parries furiously. Baldric loses the next exchange as well, and Geria notices he is looking decidedly the worse for wear. She tries to get the guard's attention to buy time for Baldric, and gets stabbed for her troubles. This guy has figured out the way Geria and Baldric fight together, and he's abke to exploit their timing. Geria uses that to her advantage by telling Baldric to step back. The Dwarf thinks this is her chance, but when she refuses to give ground this time, he's caught off balance, and she kicks him firmly in the chest, then plants a foot on him, pinning him in place. The Prince's guard, meanwhile, has carried the day and has the King surrounded.

The other part of the Fellowship carry Captain Vleng to his men, and tell them they rescued the Captain from a cave-in. They run back toward the Citadel, and encounter word of fighting in the throne room on the way. There are guards who will not admit us nor give us tidings. We confer briefly, and then Tanis uses his elven magic to ask Geria whether everything is OK. Geria is able to magically inform him that the Prince is in charge now. They conclude that things are looking good for our side, and return to their assigned quarters so that Vestrum can gear up again.

Eventually Count Ulgnor sends for them, and brings them into the company of the Prince, who is a little shell-shocked. Geria seems tired, Baldric wrecked. Bulgarath gives him a small vial and tells him to drink it. Vestrum speaks to the Elders and convinces them to back the Prince, but they insist that he must help them activate the Colossus - not to invade Tarsyna, but to be ready when the time comes. We have earned the fellowship of the Dwarves.

The fellowship spend about a week getting rested and healthy. Near the end of that time, word comes in that the Fetid Isles are on fire. Forces of the Clockwork Prince, led by Admiral Jecks, have moved through the place, lighting everything on fire. Those Isles are a lose confederation of merchant states. Jecks was once a pirate captain, but working for the Clockwork Prince has been good for him.

One of the royal artificers asks to speak to Vestrum. {{npcref|Khoros}}, the Artificer Royal for the Kingdom of the Beshar. He wants another set of eyes on the structural integrity of the Colossus, which has not been spun up in a thousand years. He's not being pushed into this by the king, he wants to go, and he's not listening to any naysayers. Anyone opposed must not be very dedicated to the war with the Clockwork Prince, but he doesn't think there's anyone who's opposed to doing this. He's so obsessed with the question of whether they can start the Colossus that he's not pondering whether they should.

We travel a fair ways from the city, to a huge cavern with a steel door set into one wall. The door is open, and the Colossus, surrounded by scaffolding, stands there, like an eighty foot tall stone statue. Its face has a nose but no other features.

Geria and Bulgarath request an audience with King {{npcref|Azadar}}, who presents every sign of being happy to see them. The King thinks the Clockwork Prince is a knock-off version of the dark lord, and that the Colossi, which defeated the real thing, will more than suffice against the imitation. Geria explains that she wants to liberate her people, not rampage through them. One of the King's counselors points out that Tarsyna basically gave itself over to the Clockwork Prince, and needs to be punished. There's an agreement made at the end of the last great war that no Dwarven kingdom will deploy a Colossus without meeting with the kings of the other Dwarven nations, but King Azadar does not plan to do that. It would take too long and remove any hope of surprise. Geria eventually asks him to desist due to the risk that the Clockwork Prince is ready for the Colossi, but he refuses, offering instead to let her march in the vanguard of the army of liberation.

At the Colossus, the visitors can see the orifice in the middle of the chest for the flame cannon. They won't allow any non-Dwarf to get inside, but Vestrum is allowed and encouraged to climb the scaffolding and enter the inspection hatch at the waist. Vestrum finds that they're having trouble building pressure, because there are fittings that corroded through. They'll require replacement. If Vestrum needs to break it, the way forward is to overload the power plant. The Colossus is so large that any minor sabotage will impair it but leave it repairable and probably battle-capable. Overloading the power core would be the best way to break it so that it could never be repaired. Vestrum cannot see how it's controlled, or guess how the Clockwork Prince might infiltrate. Vestrum observes Khoros methodically working from the core out to test the systems, and decides to work side by side for a while to build a rapport. Vestrum does a solid day's work, proving himself worthy among the company.

Raatma calls out a willingness to help from the sidelines, while Tanis just observes. Initially the Dwarves just let Raatma help move some heavy stuff around, but as they warm up to her, she's able to start doing some proper work.

Baldric, taking in what he's allowed to see of the kingdom, gets the sense that at least a third of the nobles of the land disagree with King Azadar's plan.

Bulgarath gets sick of knowing that nobody in this meeting actually cares about his input and decides to leave. Geria and Baldric leave with him.

Khoros asks Vestrum whether he trusts Raatma. The old dwarf waxes lyrical about it, and makes sure to work side-by-side with Raatma on something before they leave.

We have a strategy session with Baron {{npcref|Ugnor}} and end up deciding to have Bulgarath try to send some warning visions to the King. Things misfire. The King orders Vestrum sent to the dungeon.

}}
With several members of the Fellowship unmounted by the storm at Gastamor, we're making slow progress toward the Frosthelm Beshar. We wolf down some rations and put our legs to use. On the second day of marching, we're in the foothills, and everything begins to get steadily steeper. Late one evening, we're making camp when Gregory stops, his ears perk up, and Tanis hears the howl of Vargs.

Tanis listens and thinks it's a full pack. He doesn't think they're under any outside influence, they're just animals who smell prey. Varg packs like to take turns sprinting while other members of the pack lope along, exhausting the prey. Bulgarath suggests finding a spot where we can make a stand, and Vestrum suggests that if we were backed up against an outcropping or something else he could tunnel through, he could get us all out the backside. Vestrum spots a ravine that we could follow up to where it and another drainage channel intersect, then double back down to where the ground is steepest. The vargs would be coming downhill at us, but we'd be impossible to flank.

Bulgarath hands the dwarf something that looks like charcoal, and asks him to take it to that defensible point, while the harbinger goes back up the hill. The rest of the fellowship form a defensive array.

Bulgarath does a convincing imitation of an easy target for the vargs, then conjures a river of burning red ash heading down the ravine, keeping the vargs from approaching. They yelp and pace back and forth in front of the river of ash, but they can't cross. That holds them all afternoon, and then we start a campfire from the burning ashes. It's an unpleasant and restless night, but somewhere in the hours of darkness, the vargs give up and depart.

We march uphill, and another day later, we see a peak with a dwarven watch tower on top. Vestrum stands where he can be seen clearly and bows toward it. THe dwarves blow a horn, and Vestrum counsels the party to wait and see what's to come. The locals are in a pissy mood and declare that the halls of {{npcref|King Azadar}} are closed to foreigners. Cousin Hannar demands the right of hospitality, while Vestrum points out that there's been peace between the dwarves and Tarsyna for centuries, and it would be rude to keep the heir to the throne of Taryna waiting on the doorstep. The sentries come closer, Garia shows them her royal seal pendant, and they reluctantly allow us in.

The interior of the halls is dark, but soon we get to areas lit to facilitate hospitality. It takes an hour or so to get to where the tunnels open up to a cavern, lit by light wells shining on crystals. In the center of the cavern sits a massive hexagon tower, which can only be reached by a long bridge, which can only be reached by a long staircase full of switchbacks. There are dwellings in the cavern walls, terraced downward. This place would be miserable to even ponder attacking.

We wait in a sort of antechamber for a while. A side door opens, and a dwarf enters, who greets us as friends and guests. He introduces himself as {{npcref|Baron Ugnor}}. Vestrum introduces the party, and the Baron invites us all to share a meal. We accept, there's a crashing sound, and enormous double doors open. A guard tell us that the King will see us now, and the Baron takes his leave. We are brought into the royal presence in the audience chamber of the great hall. The hall is huge, gorgeously lit, and full of guards and VIPs, including some humans. As we pass, one of the humans kneels as Geria passes.

Vestrum is on point and bows to King Azadar. Geria nods, Baldric salutes, Raatma makes an awkward bow, and Tanis and Bulgarath nod. The King's voice sounds like he gargles with road salt. The Kingdom prepares for war, and they'd welcome Vestrum's help awakening the Colossi. The King asks Geria for news of Tarsyna, and she reports her father's fall under the influence of the Clockwork Prince. The King reports that his last emissary was not even allowed to meet with Geria's father, and had to meet with Lord Adder instead. The King is talking about open war with Tarsyna, which seems like a lot. Vestrum doesn't sense a trap for the fellowship, but something here isn't right.

We dine with the dwarves, and the food is plentiful, though the cuisine of the dwarves is meant to keep body and soul together and nothing more. They do not understand cooking as a fine art.

After eating, Vestrum follows up on the request to see the Baron, and we're all led to his hall. The Baron quickly introduces his subject: he does not see why the Frosthelm should move against the human kingdom. He thinks the King wants to make his mark on the war before dying, because when he passes, the will be a succession council. In time of war, the King's oldest son, captain of the King's guard, would almost certainly be the choice, but the Baron doesn't think Prince Gaznar would be the best ruler. The Baron offers his hospitality as long as we need it, and encourages us to accept the King's as well.

We rest and recover.

The human who bowed to Geria in the hall ({{npcref|Davik}}) pays a call on us, and pledges his sword to her. He had despaired of ever being able to return home; serving her is more than he hoped for. He offers to act as her bodyguard. Davic's squire Basner will become Geria's new servant.

During recuperation, Bulgarath has a private chat with Geria. He has foreseen doom (as per usual) and asks her what she fears, when this is all over. She thinks it's not over until her father is returned to himself and rules a free Tarsyna. He warns her that no such thing might be possible, and that she must remember that choices made out of fear can be made to serve the Clockwork Prince.

Baldric has fallen down the well. He finds himself on a stairway of sorts, but it's steep, so steep it may have been made for the legs of something other than humans. Also, since he fell, he's not climbing down the stairs, he's falling and bouncing down them. He falls a loooong way, and bounces around so many corners that he can not see the door he fell through. He works on making a small fire from what he's carrying, he hears whispers in the distance.

He improvises a torch out of his scabbard, and sees that every surface but the floor is covered in blades. He also sees that the stairs end 20 or 30 feet above the floor in the center of the room, so climbing back out will not be an option. He tries to move toward the whispers, hurting himself in the process because of all the blades, but he can't see anything. There's something out there, moving, but he can't tell what or where it is.

Up top, Vestrum ties a rope on, hands the other half to Raatma, and begins trying to wend his way down the stairs. He gets to a sort of landing, turns, and realizes that the walls of the stairway are covered in blades. Just then, a stair gives way, and he begins to fall. The rope snaps taught, the blades on the wall cut it, and the floor of the temple gets served one portion of pancaked dwarf. Ow ow ow ow ow.

Raatma calls down, and Vestrum is able to warn her about the walls of blades. She gets to the last section, where the stairs run out, and she executes a proper hang-fall. She checks her foe-sensitive axe, and finds it's hot.

Tanis, Geria, Bulgarath, and Hannar begin working their way down the stairs. Bulgarath uses his broom to gently float down. Tanis tries to use his elven gait to travel down safely, but falls, and gives the floor its third serving of pancakes for the day. Geria follows, but loses some of her cache of gems.

Bulgarath and Tanis both hear the whispering, and Bulgarath recognizes it as the language of Gastamor. Some of them are saying "come closer," others, "help us," or "that way lies only death." Bulgarath's glowing face illuminates two possible passages, and he chooses the one from which the whispers don't seem to be coming. This reminds Tanis of the shades of the Cursewood. Shades being incorporeal, it's very difficult to hurt them, but they can certainly hurt the living.

As we move down the chosen passage, moving very carefully to avoid bouncing off the wall when the corridor bends, we realize that some blades are also positioned as traps. Baldric lights a torch and begins walking offset from Bulgarath, to create some parallax for the light. Hannar ties off a rope up top and throws it down. The whispers say, "Sheer folly, the rope will not help you."

Tanis scans the area, and notices a spot where some low-positioned blades are casting a shadow, which tends to hide the absence of a floor ahead. He can feel this place's hatred of the living, and suspect the shades are following. The gap in the floor is a good 20ft across. Bulgarath grabs one end of the rope that had been tied to Vestrum's waist and flies it across, while Vestrum takes out his tools and anchors the rope on this side. Tanis climbs across, followed by Baldric. Just then, the shades attack.

Geria tries to run after Baldric, and veritably flies across the rope. A shade almost grabs Vestrum, but the light from Bulgarath's face drives it back. The other one moves to chop the rope in the anchor. Raatma bellows "don't do that" to the shade. It looks at her, and after a second, it begins speaking to her in archaic orcish. As it does, Vestrum swings his warhammer at one, and it goes right through, which causes him to stumble. Only his mithril armor saves him from impalement. The shade talking to Raatma asks what brings her to this place, because it suggests she's here to take what is not hers. She says that she's here to protect people from the Loknar. It tells her that the Loknar is all-powerful and there is no protection. As she tries to think of a retort, Bulgarath, speaking in old Gastamorian, tells them that they have no business among the living and may not trouble his people anymore. They heed the harbinger (one of them offers a salute) and fade into the walls.

To hurry things up, Raatma throws Vestrum across, and then runs across herself. She stumbles, and scrapes herself on a blade, but she seems fine. We continue onward.

Raatma looks to see how the blades are attached to the wall, and it looks like they grew there, probably an application of Gastamorian elemental magic. As they march, Baldric notices that something is reflecting green light across the blades. The Loknar may be close. Raatma tells Bulgarath about her conversation with the shades, and the wizard thinks that the shades actually sound uncommonly sensible, for the dead.

We come to a spot where the blades are so thick that it's almost impossible to get between them. Vestrum tucks himself behind is shield, takes a couple steps back, and simply crashes through. The blades turn out to be brittle, and he finds himself in a larger room, still spike-encrusted, with a sort of flower of blades in the center, coming from the floor and the ceiling, with one blade from top and bottom somehow holding a green glowing orb in between. Vestrum turns and blocks the path he just made, telling them that they will not have the Loknar. Everyone can see this is not really normal Vestrum behavior.

The dwarf keeps backing up, very slowly, one half-step at a time while feeling behind him with his foot. Bulgarath tells him he can have the Loknar, that's fine. Raatma reminds Vestrum of their history together, that they've been friends for a long time, and he tells her she can come across too. As soon as she crosses into the room, she realizes that this dwarven scum is between her and her Loknar.

Baldric asks Geria to get between him and Bulgarath, so she's trailing the group. As she steps up, she sees the Loknar, feels its call, and immediately realizes that the thing is evil, horribly evil, so evil it's got half the team in its spell. She leans in and looks more carefully, she can see that Raatma is circling behind Vestrum. As Baldric gets a look at it, he realizes that he has to protect Geria from the Loknar, by carrying it for her.

Tanis sees the Loknar, and knows he must have it. He tries to stab Baldric, but perhaps with a little help from the shades, Baldric steps aside.

Raatma slowly returns to herself, and realizes the peril everyone is in. She throws her hammer at the Loknar, hits it, and green lightning bolts begin to play between the points of the blade blossom. Vestrum snaps out of his possession, though.

Baldric, aware Tanis is going for the Loknar, goes hard at him, and gives him all he can handle.

Bulgarath drags Tanis out of the room, away from the Loknar.

Vestrum looks at the blade-flower, and thinks it was made to both power and protect the Loknar. It could be broken by someone getting in there and breaking things, and they will suffer much pain as a result.

Baldric recommits to making sure Geria never holds the Loknar. Tanis returns to his senses once he can no longer see the Loknar. Bulgarath tries to yank Baldric out of the room as well, but only manages to get the shield off his back. He dives for the Loknar, but Raatma tackles him and pins him. Vestrum bellows "you great green bollocks, you've messed with the wrong dwarf," and begins smashing the flower with his warhammer. There's a green flash so brigh they can all see Vestrum's skeleton, but he beats the lower spire until it bends, and then the Loknar falls and rolls across the floor.

Bereft of its protection and power source, the Loknar becomes vulnerable to Bulgarath. He hurls the Loknar at one of the blades. The Loknar shatters, followed by shrieking and cracking. Stones begin to fall, revealing a new passageway. While there are blades between us and it, the passageway itself has ordinary walls. Tanis can feel the shades coming for the party. Behind him, Vestrum once again charges through the intervening blades, but as he slows to a stop, the floor shifts, and suddenly he's pinned between blade and floor. Raatma rushes over to try to pull him free, but she can't.

Baldric and Geria scurry free. In the lead, Tanis and Bulgarath run ahead, and when shades menace Tanis, he just jukes out of their way. The shade that sees Bulgarath seems to decide not to interfere with him. Once free, Bulgarath realizes it's just the two of them, and and decides to go back for the rest.

Baldric sees a shade blocking his path, and tries to push it back with his torch while Geria gets past. Geria tries to use her royal symbol to command the shade, but it's not impressed. Baldric keeps the focus on it as Bulgarath comes up behind it and drives it back with his rune-covered sword. Baldric tells Bulgarath that Vestrum is trapped and Raatma is with him.

Raatma tells Vestrum that either they're going to die together or she's going to pull him free, and heaves with tremendous force. He pops free and they move down the passageway.

Hannar finds Tanis with the mounts, and the party regroups as another ash storm swirls overhead. The party mounts and rides off. Geria seems amazingly untroubled by the storm, but the rest of the party ends up riding their mounts to death to escape (except for Sparkles and Gregory). We come to rest just outside the storm, in terrible shape but alive, in the Frosthelm Beshar.

Having crossed the River Ebb, the Fellowship is on the long journey to Gastamor. Thanks to some kindly settlers, we use a series of tunnels to escape rampaging soldiers in Fairnam Downs. Unfortunately, as we work our way through the tunnels, we encounter a nameless terror of the ancient world, a formless darkness that attacked us with whiplike tendrils. We retreated, Baldric and Raatma and Vestrum forming the rear guard as the extremely unwell Geria, Tanis, and Bulgarath escaped. Bulgarath tells us it is called a Baneflicker, and that it's weak against magical light, but it draws strength from shadow. The rear guard holds the thing off, and as Bulgarath summons his power, his eyes and mouth begin to glow red, until it seemed like a beam of red light emanated from his face as he led the retreat. The Harbinger also draws his rune-covered sword, which he never does for an ordinary battle. When the Baneflicker's tendrils hit, they make a sizzling noise. When Baldric tries to throw his torch at it, the torch goes out... and the creature counters by sticking a tendril right through his arm. In desperation, Vestrum, knowing that it's daylight outside, suggests we need to smash the ceiling. Bulgarath uses his magic to levitate Vestrum, who goes soaring upward in a cloud of magic red sparklies, smashes the juncture of the vaults with his warhammer ''Correction'', and the roof caves in. Raatma's axe breaks from the rockfall, but Baldric dodges like a pro.

On the surface, after a time, Bulgarath sees a flock of ash crows coming toward us. Baldric yells for everyone to hide, and finds a narrow defile containing a rocky outcrop we can shelter under. Ash crows don't caw, they shriek. It's a terrible sound. Baldric believes the crows mean something or someone is searching for us.

Later, we see a message left by a group of orcs, who were headed west. They had heard of Tarsynan soldiers taking slaves, and wanted to fight them. They also leave warning that the city no longer slumbers. Man, Gastamor was bad enough when it was quiet. It was called the Land of Death and Shadow. Whatever being awake means for a place like that, it can't be good.

Eventually, we catch sight of the city, across the plain of ash. We pause before moving on, and Tanis has his unicorn Sparkles use her holy horn to heal Baldric's wound. That's good, because that wound was an oozing pus-covered stanking mess. As we eat, Bulgarath asks Baldric who told him of ash crows and other monsters. Seems the wise woman of Tarsyna were on to something - as were the Dwarves who decided to live in tunnels, where ash crows don't go.

That night, camped on a hilltop overlooking Gastamor, Tanis thinks about how Gastamor is supposedly inhabited by the dead, and wonders what it means. Then he realizes that Kaius, Baldric, and Geria are gone. He begins kicking people awake. Vestrum doesn't feel like there's an ambush here, a least, but obviously this isn't good.

Baldric wakes to something dark and confining. Something is wriggling in his nose, possibly a worm, but he can't move to get it out.

Vestrum, attuned to the earth, feels things moving around down there. He gets down and begins feeling the ground, and notices that the earth where the humans were is softer than the other parts of the earth. Hannar unearths Geria's bedroll. These are probably wights, burying the humans until they're nice and rotten, thence to devour them. He feels Kaius, dead, though at least not totally rotting. That's a good place to start digging, angled somewhat toward Gastamor, and then Hannar orders everyone to stop and listen. We all hear something that time, and Hannar rushes to dig there, digging so fast that poor Baldric gets whacked with a pickaxe. As they pull him up, hands come from the earth, trying to pull the squire back down. Vestrum rushes to grab him and clings on for dear life, and Tanis rushes in to stab the hands with his elven knife.

We discuss how to manage our camp, knowing that the ground we lie on can be turned against us. We agree to have to people on watch, one to watch outside, one to watch inside. Vestrum talks to the earth and finds a nearby hill, with stairs laid into the side of it, which feels safer than the ground. At the top of the hill, 40 feet up, someone or something has laid flagstones. That should be a little harder for wights to soften. Bulgarath recalls that this place is called Helion's Watch, though not why. Raatma insists that if anyone needs to leave camp to dump out in the night, Gregory has to go with them.

At one point that night, as Raatma takes the external watch, she sees something moving around out there.

As the sun rises, painting the undersides of the clouds pink, one cloud seems lower than the others, pencil thin, and red. It turns toward Gastamor, reminding us that this is no place to be. We break camp quickly.

Gastamor is desolate. Every fall of foot, paw, or hoof kicks up a puff of powerdery ash grit, and it gets everywhere. Only Bulgarath, riding his broom, seems unaffected, though it still leaves a trail in the ash. Bulgarath begins to feel something from the City.

We're about halfway to Gastamor when the sun disappears behind a cloud... and then Gastamor disappears behind an ash storm... and we realize we're about to have a problem. Raatma thinks this grit is so fine it will get into our lungs. Vestrum improvises a microfilter that keeps him able to breathe, for the moment. The others hold up OK, except for Tanis, who simply cannot even with this filth. Bulgarath kicks in the afterburner on his broom and zoooms into the city at Mach 2 or so.

THe Harbinger takes cover in a ruined building, and finds himself in the presence of fellow Harbinger {{npcref|Neros}} the Unrelenting. Bulgarath advises Neros to let his companions pass and not try to find the Loknar, because interfering will be Neros' doom. Neros knows Bulgarath has doubts, and admits that he himself once doubted, but has come to believe that the Clockwork Prince is Melkor returned. Bulgarath remains convinced this is a pretence. Neros counters that Kaion turned the final key at their master's bidding, and that though they may not understand his plans, his plans are flawless. Bulgarath argues that Neros needs to open all his eyes to see the truth. Neros lets this pass, and refuses to be turned from his quest. Neros wears his flesh poorly, and seems to be concealing three legs under his robes. They're all for locomotion, you filthy perverts. Anyway. Neros offers Bulgarath a compromise: destroy the Loknar so that nobody gets it. Bulgarath accepts.

The rest of the Fellowship catches up just as Neros leaves by walking through the wall, leaving a reddish glow behind him. We pause for the storm to blow over, and that leads to an awkward silence. Geria asks if this will be a problem, and Bulgarath assures her that the obstacle has been removed. Vestrum just can't accept it, and tries to get him to spill the beans on what just happened, but all he'll say is that the Clockwork Prince knows they're here, and that he solved that problem. He's bent on recovering the Loknar. Eventually, as suddenly as it came up, the ash storm dissipates.

Lore break: Gastamor was a powerful kingdom of the previous Age, famous for strong elemental magic, and for standing firm against Melkor. They were building a weapon to win the war when Melkor moved against them... or so the Orcs think. The Elves think they lost control of their own weapon. Others think Melkor gave them the weapon.

Lore break over, we move deeper into the ruins. Everything shows fire damage, as though it was blasted. Baldric looks for a pattern in the fire damage that might tell him where the center of the blast was, and can't. It's like the entire city was wreathed in a cloud of flame. However, he can see a pattern in the way the taller buildings fell. They all fell away from a common center. As we close in on that center, there's something like a pyramid that's still intact, and which seems to be the center of the damage. It's tall, made with steep stairs on one face, and there's some sort of wreckage on the top, at least a hundred feet up. Tanis checks for magic, and feels that the entire pyramid is magical, impossibly old, maybe old enough that Gastamor was built around it, in an age undreamed of. Bulgarath says that there are two other pyramids like this one, but they have not been activated. As the Harbinger sees it, the pyramids are the bait, and the Loknar springs the trap. When we reach it, Baldric takes point, hurrying up the pyramid, and sees that it's the center of the blast. He sees that only briefly, though, because then the trap door opens under his feet.

}}
We need to cross pretty much the breadth of Tarsyna to get to Gastamor, and we decide to pick a route that will take us through the least-inhabited parts. We travel for three days before we bump into anyone, and then we meet {{npcref|Festig}}, a travelling merchant. Geria asks if he has any arms or armor for sale, and he looks a touch nervous, proclaims himself to be no arms smuggler, and displays the mace that he carries "for close protection." He has no bow for sale, to Geria's disappointment. In the next town on the road, Lingram. there's likely to be a yeoman who might work up a bow. Geria asks him about the roads, and he says that as one nears the border, one will find many soldiers there, moving east. They've been raiding into the Fairnam Downs, which are the east banks of the River Ebb, which delineates the eastern border of Tarsyna and then the Triarchy. Geria has Kaius negotiate for some stores, and adds that we need to keep moving and get there ASAP.

Baldric talks to Festig and discover they are distant kin through marriage. Very distant. Festig's understanding of the coup is that Lord Adder uncovered a plot against the King, led by corrupt Kingsguard. An old man in Festig's company scoffs and says that entire story is stupid. He believes in the loyalty of the Kingsguard, which means the coup can't be as advertised. Geria acknowledges that she is who she seems to be, and Festig agrees that as loyal men of Tarsyna, they will keep her secret.

We split off from Festig in Lingram. He advises us to keep moving instead of staying. We take a cow path around the village, over the next hill, and we might as well be on the other side of the moon.

Days later, we approach the border, knowing to keep an eye out for raiding soldiers. We see smoke on the horizon, some to the south, a lot to the east. Tanis rides ahead a little, uses his elf-sight, and determines that the smoke to the south is a foraging party burning a farm on the Tarynan side of the border. The main camp, to which they are returning, is right up on the bank of the river. It's a small camp for the number of soldiers deployed here, and that turns out to be because they're building a bridge here. There's a rope ferry already there, but of course you can't supply an army with a rope ferry. The workers don't look like bridge builders. They look like farmers pressed into service.

Tanis suggests we hit the foragers, let one get away, and force the soldiers to come after us one group at a time, which will allow us to defeat them in detail. We ride up on the foragers, catching them by surprise, and one of the soldiers fires a quarrel at Raatma. The furious orc flicks the bolt away with his sword. Tanis fires an arrow at one, but the soldier's shield takes the brunt. Vestrum and Hannar charge in, and that breaks up the soldiers' formation. Tanis' next arrow takes one in the leg. Raatma charges in on his varg Gregory, and that sends them scattering. Vestrum and Hannar take out a couple, one's already wounded, and one runs off toward the camp.

Tanis considers the ground as he tries to figure out where we next want to meet the troops. He can hear hoofbeats soon - the cavalry are coming, and they aren't friends. We know the soldiers weren't all cavalry, so this guarantees that our plan to defeat them in detail is starting to work. Bulgarath canters to the top of a hill, and apparently these soldiers have never seen Fury Road, because they don't recognize bait when they see it. Sizzling embers emerge from the earth, scorching the horses, scorching unhorsed soldiers, and generally raising hell. Only two soldiers ride out of the spell, and they're on the attack. One lowers his spear and charges, and Baldric charges him, because that's what knight's do. The two of them exchange blows inconclusively. The other rider charges Raatma, with his spear lowered, to skewer Gregory. Raatma relishes the challenge, and begins to win out over his foe. Geria goes to Raatma's aid and almost gets wounded, but Kaius intervenes to protect her. She's able to finish that trooper off. Tanis fires an error at Baldric's foe and does him in. The cavalry are done for.

Tanis scouts again. The camp is on high alert but otherwise unchanged. Baldric tries to overlook the ground and gets shot by a sentry, who runs back to camp. Odds more troops may come Baldric's way soon! Geria and Vestrum move toward high ground. Raatma and Tanis work they way along the riverbank and behind the soldiers. Geria tells all "true Tarsynians" to rally to her. The troops darken the skies with arrows, so many that Vestrum cannot protect her.

Raatma fires her junk cannon from behind the troops, flinging her axe (no longer entirely intact) through ranks of soldiers like they were butter. The archers hit the dirt. Tanis rushes in on them and does some harm, but they begin to rally from the shock of the cannon. The melee-armed soldiers assault Tanis and Raatma, separating them and pushing them back. Vestrum charges downhill, shield out front, clearing a path Geria can use to enter the fray. Geria and Baldric follow him. Bulgarath uses his magic to speak to the villagers, telling them it's time to rise up, that Tarsyna and their princess need them. That mostly just scares the villagers. They do not rise up.

Raatma and Tanis fight their way back to one another in the midst of the infantry. Vestrum and Baldric occupy the archers, who can't get off an organized volley in the face of being charged by people on horseback. Geria kills more archers, disorganizing them. An archer fires an arrow at Vestrum, but it sticks in the horn of his helmet instead of cutting flesh. Raatma is having no trouble with these soldiers, they're no match for an orc in the fullness of his rage, but only Tanis' armor keeps him from being wounded. Bulgarath tries to use magic to send one of the archers to his doom, but fails.

Baldric goes to Vestrum's aid, trying to disable the archer, and scores a KO. The other archer fires at Geria, but Walrick jumps up and takes the arrow in the throat. Raatma and Tanis continue to occupy their foe. Vestrum wades in behind them, clumsily laying around with his hammer, and they turn to fight him. Against his mithril armor, they make no headway, and the infantry exhaust themselves. Geria and Baldric try to corner the remaining archer, but he scampers away and tries to get his bow into action again, but Baldric rides him down.

Geria calls for the soldiers to put down their weapons. Some do, one charges her, but Baldric steps in the way. The soldiers do not regard Geria as their rightful heir, but they have no fight left in them. Raatma encourages the villagers to take their revenge on the soldiers, but the villagers mostly just throw some kicks and void some bladders. One of them bows and takes a knee to Geria, offering her their eternal thanks. He seems to speak for at least a dozen of the villagers. She assures him that she will always fight for her kingdom and her subjects. One asks what's next - how will she save the kingdom from here? She explains that she's travelling east as part of a plan to save the kingdom, but another peasant says that sounds a lot like running away. She stammers out a retort that impresses no one. That guy leaves.

Tanis takes Vestrum and Raatma aside to have a go at the bridge. Raatma grabs some construction material to make weapons out of, while Vestrum grabs a barrel of pitch he found, dispenses it liberally, and lights the bridge on fire. After crossing, we also cut the ferry rope, to make it harder for the soldiers to start over.

We know that the Amber Throne is a source of power for the Clockwork Prince, and he already controls it. He has his eye on a mysterious orb called the Loknar, known to lie in Gastammore, the City of Ashes.

We're in a tavern in Seabrink Haven. The ceiling is low, the air smoky. Everyone is talking about what happened to the King, and the Heir being dispossed. Some soldiers break in, see Geria, and yell out, "Get her!"

Baldrick cries out for everyone to head up the stairs and out onto the roofs. Walrick and Geria are gone almost immediately. (Kaius is in the stables.) Baldrick and Vestrum fight a delaying action on the stairs. Tanis bails out the back, Bulgarath in tow, and Raatma just goes headlong at 'em. Pro tip for any guards reading this: don't get caught on a flight of stairs between a man, a dwarf, and an orc. It doesn't work out well for them. There's carnage everywhere, but at the end, you know who won because it's the Fellowship headed up the stairs.

Bulgarath, out at the stables, does some magical stuff that pulls the walls down and keeps the soldiers from catching up. Tanis grabs a rake and starts KOing the distracted soldiers. He KO's one, but another grabs him from behind.

Geria, Walrick, and Baldrick are running across the rooftops, free of pursuit.

A handful of soldiers are trying to get out the front, so Raatma doesn't kill them to death, and more soldiers are trying to come in the front, creating a traffic jam. That lets Raatma and Vestrum get out the back clean.

Bulgarath sees that the soldiers have seized Tanis and they're about to run him through. He speaks a Word of Command, and the guy about to run the elf through gets flattened to the deck. Raatma shows up just then, gives Tanis the sign to duck, and clotheslines the guard who had the elf. The impact snaps the orc's hammer, but it does the guard about as much good. Tanis KOs that guard with his shovel. Everyone mounts up and escapes (including Kaius), except Vestrum, who cannot seem to get mounted. Bulgarath, using his wizard's staff / broomstick as a hoverboard, grabs the dwarf by the backplate and drags him along with. Everyone is free and clear, and Kaius makes sure that all the horses come with.

Geria, Baldrick, and Walrick slide down a drain pipe and meet up with the rest of the Fellowship. Bulgarath drops Vestrum on the back of a horse.

We find an unused barn, Tanis uses his elven magic to keep us from being noticed, and Raatma works up a sort of pickhammer, built to customary orcish standards of quality. While they work, Bulgarath meditates, or something. Baldrick spends some time chatting Tanis up about elven culture and lore. While meditating, Bulgarath can feel the minions of the enemy moving about the city, but he can also tell that they can't. He can feel someone directing the guards, and senses that if someone did something about that, the guards would stop looking.

With Raatma's hammer of mass- and self-destruction complete, Tanis helps us get to the right place on the wall. Vestrum points to a spot where a buttress has not been properly joined to the wall, and tells Raatma that a hard enough blow there will bring down a chunk of wall. The pick digs in, the deadblow hammer hits home, and the entire tool shatters, almost explosively. Vestrum, Tanis, and Baldrick all wear armor that took the blow. Walrick and Bulgarath are both injured by debris, but Walrick is able to protect Geria. Vestrum jumps up to clap Raatma on the shoulder in congratulations. The rubble practically forms a ramp, and the Fellowship splits town.

|Session Title=Any fight you can fly away from...
TL-DR convinces the ag cartel to let him make a call, and calls the ship to request immediate submission of digital bona fides. Con, raised by rich people in the Core, knows all about this stuff, and whips up something convincing in record speed. The droid and Myyla have no trouble leaving with dignity and under their own power.

The villainous inspector seems to be somewhat migratory, travelling as needed to perform his inspections where the cargo is.

Myyla, having seen the scope of the ag cartel, thinks the New Republic needs to be aware of the opportunity here. A great many worlds could benefit from the food grown on Tabercore. The team flies back to Haslett to meet with {{npcref|Tarek Hanko}} in the Ambassador's office. The tactical logs of two encounters with Interdictor cruisers, combined with the intel about the crooked inspector, convince the New Republic officials that this work is worth doing. Bringing capital ships into non-aligned space is not going to be an easy sale, but fighter patrols ought to be workable. They may also be able to bring in a Q-ship. If we could guarantee that the Star Destroyer would show up, the odds of the New Republic bringing in warships increase. Hanko suggests that if they installed concussion missiles on the ''Deniable Asset'' and we put a modified tracking missile into the Star Destroyer, the New Republic Navy would trace that signal and blow up the Destroyer, for sure.

We had back to Tabercore and begin investigating the Department of Weights and Measures in Holcomb's Landing. Con, Igli, and TL-DR stay on the ship while Myyla, Phex, and Gar attempt to infiltrate the Department and establish an uplink for Con. Phex cases the place, and identifies several potential points of entry, of which the best is a pressure vent in the service tunnels to the facility. Entering those tunnels poses no trouble at all. They head toward the office of our least favorite inspector, successfully evading the sentry droid, the overweight Mon Calamari security guard, and a few custodial droids on the way. The office is of course locked tight, but that won't keep our intrepid heroes out. Phex searches the office for hidden comps or comms, but find nothing, so they move on to the computer uplink. Gar has no trouble installing it, and then Con goes onlines. He slices right through the security. There's no sign of how he's communicating with the remnant, but Con can grab his schedule for the next two weeks. Everything is so clean and above board that the inspector must have some other way of getting word out. Con finds a hidden macro that changes one character in a string for the inspection. The stamp goes into the system-wide shipping control system, so anyone in a related function could be inspecting it and passing it on. Con now knows this flag, and could fake it if needed. The team packs up and attempts to exfiltrate. The team slips out, sauntering past the sleeping Mon Cal guard.

Gar checks some records and concludes that the Imperials intercept a ship about every three weeks, plus or minus how large the last haul was. We return to the embassy and Haslett to review the plans. It will take a couple weeks for the New Republic to stage, but they will bring in a Q-ship, several squadrons of Y-wing, and a squadron of X-Wings. This gets bureaucratic fast. The X-Wing leader ({{npcref|Fexel Blah}} hates Igli on spec, which is bad, but they install a concussion missile launcher on the ''Asset'' and fit three tracking warheads. The Q-ship captain jumps in and negotiates for a cargo, and then Con and Gar slip the "intercept me" tag into its inspection slip. Gar computers the interception point.

The Q-ship, escorted by the ''Asset'', traipses through hyperspace, and flies right through the intercept coordinate without anything happening. We miss by a good 20 minutes, which is going to screw up the interception geometry for our fighter cover. Welp. Gar makes the signal for help to come running.

Igli fires up the engines to get the ship moving, but can't provide any useful info to the gunners. TL-DR provides fire discipline. One squadron of TIE fighters makes the mistake of assuming too tight a patrol formation, and Phex opens fire before they can shift to a looser combat formation. Debris from the first couple ships hit impacts other fighters in the formation, and ends up destroying all of it. The other TIE squadron in our area is out of range, but Myyla begins drawing a bead on them. Gar informs our reinforcements of our location, helped out by Con's effort to ensure the transmission gets through the Interdictor's jamming. The cruiser, having learned that the ''Asset'' is a formidable opponent in their previous encounters with us, makes us the primary target. TIE fighters absolutely light the ship up. The Interdictor tries to join the game, but it can't hit something as maneuverable as us. The fire cuts out early as the TIE fighters close in. The Q-ship turns to "run for it".

Igli continues to accelerate, fails to force the TIEs to collide with one another, and commences evasive maneuvers. TL-DR provides fire discipline again, and Phex is able to destroy two more TIE fighters, and Myyla kills another TIE. Gar angles the shields rearward. The remaining TIE misses. The Q-ship blows its fake plating. Con boosts the shields.

Igli gets the ''Asset'' up to top speed, and gets the advantage on the lone TIE currently pursuing. TL-DR once again executes fire discipline. Phex blows up the last TIE fighter in space. Myyla fires at the Interdictor, doing no damage, but helping to keep their attention off the Q-ship. The Q-ships's massive proton torpedo volley tears up the Interdictor, causing it to bear away. Con slices the Interdictor and lowers its front defense.

Igli evades and ensures that the Interdictor doesn't. TL-DR performs some emergency repairs, just to make Con jealous. Phex rakes the Interdictor with his guns and scores a laser hit. Myyla's fire doesn't penetrate the hull, but it does weaken the Interdictor's shields. Gar commits hard to angling the deflectors, which is just in time, because the cruiser actually manages to make a hit. Igli can see that the cruiser is turning off the interdiction field. The Q-ship rolls over. Con jams the cruiser's communications. The New Republic strike force arrives, on an attack vector.

Igli senses blood in the water, or whatever it is etheric rudders react against, and focuses on flying his own attack vector. Phex's fire is highly effective, disabling their navicomputer and their shields. Myyla's fire damages the cruiser's engines. Con calls the Q-ship and advises them to hold fire and let the fighters finish off the cruiser, but they don't get the memo to their gunners in time. Their torpedo broadside is apocalyptic. The cruiser is cripped and its interdiction bubble destroyed. Then the Star Destroyer shows up. The New Republic fighters immediately change course.

Igli shouts for Phex to come to the cockpit and aim the concussion missiles as closes to within concussion missile range. TL-DR provides fire discipline again. Phex manages to get his torpedo past their shields. Myyla fires lasers at them, doing minor damage, and Gar turns the ship around. The Y-wing command asks the Asset to finish off the Interdictor. The Star Destroyer can't hit nothin'. Con slices the destroyer, reduces its defenses, and also disables one of its tractor beams. The Y-wings begin launching torpedoes, and draw some blood.

Igli lines up an attack run on the crippled Interdictor. Phex riddles it with more holes, and Myyla adds enough to weaken the armor. The Star Destroyer plants a turbolaser hit on the ''Asset'' that cracks the ship wide open. Con does what he can do, which is to try to take some strain off the ship.

Igli flips switches frantically and somehow the ship comes back to life. TL-DR quickly provides fire discipline for Phex, who manages to make that thing explode. The crew hear that the Star Destroyer has the Q-ship in a tractor, and Con tries to slice it just to deactivate the tractor, but fails. Gar punches the hyperdrive.

The ship sputters to a halt again a few minutes later, but Con is able to perform some repairs and get the ship moving again. We head for a New Republic shipyard. Later on, we hear that the fighters made a few passes until the TIEs launch, then leave. The Q-ship self-destructed to avoid being boarded. The Remnant forces have no idea there's a tracker on their ship, and now New Republic capital ships are hunting it. This might just be the end of Harkin the Ghoul.

The ''Asset'' hypers into Umbolt, carrying its cargo of fungally-derived medicines and signs of recent combat. We dock up at Levity Station, where to do the best of our knowledge, we are not wanted by any law enforcement agency. We have no trouble getting paid for the cargo. The local repair boss ({{npcref||Olna Helgum}}, presumed Correllian) swings by as Con does hull repair work, and identifies the scorching on the hull as fresh TIE blaster marks without any hesitation. She and Con go out and talk tech together. It's the hottest thing since Sheldon met Amy. Olna worked for Correllian Drive Yard, and freely admits to stealing Hektor designs. She warns Con not to talk about being shot at by the Remnant in the bar, because there's a rumor that maybe the bad guys might have a set of eyes in that same bar. Con ends up hammered, and spends the last couple hours of his night drunkenly hand-fitting hull patches.

Igli, Mylla, and TL-DR go looking for upgrades to the ''Asset''. There's a targeting array for sale, on another station in the system... but it's the one where we're already wanted. There's a guy on Levity who might be sellig an ECM suite. When Igli goes to close the deal, they try to rob him instead. The fight escalates immediately. Igli pulls his slugthrower and fires first, dropping one of the thugs in his tracks. A guard with a blaster carbine blasts Mylla, which is not comfortable at all, and a guard with a blaster pistol misses but makes her duck. TL-DR shoots the nearest guard, then maneuvers to get cover from the guy with the carbine. Mylla climbs the ladder to get after the guard. Igli tries to shoot anither guard, and puts a slug in him, but doesn't put him down. That guy shoots back, and Igli takes a minor burn, but isn't phased. The guy with the carbine shoots at Mylla as she's coming in, but she's moving evasively, so he can't get her in his sights. TL-DR shoots at that guy, which distracts him just as she's closing. His last moments involve being carved by an angry Wookie. Igli takes cover next to TL-DR, aims, and shoots at the remaining criminal, which ends the fight.

One bad guy is slowly trying to crawl away, and TL-DR extracts the location of the ECM suite from him. Igli verifies it, and they leave with the suite. Igli throws the survivor a stimpack, and tells him, "You go back on us for this, I'll finish the job. Don't let me see you on this station again. I see you again, the Wookie tears your arms off."

Back on the ship, Gar does a little field surgery and gets Mylla patched right up.

Con installs the ECM array, and has no trouble installing the anti-guided weapon mod. Olna is willing to give Igli a ride over to the next station, to look for that targeting array. Olna's ride is a B-wing - a venerable, slightly creaky, still fully armed B-Wing. She doesn't go with him, but lets him know that she's covering his six. Igli has no trouble buying the array there. For once, a seller is willing to simply exchange money for goods. Con installs the array and also the mod for True Aim. Igli shoves him aside and says, "Let me try." It doesn't work for him either.

We also notify command that the Remnant interdictor just captured a freighter full of grain. Command would like it if we could find out who's leaking shipping schedules to the Remnant and then do something to interfere with their operations.

Con and Gar go looking through recent comm traffic. Gar looks at navigation-related data, notices to navigators and such. Con ends up digging deep into holonet conspiracy theories. He finds insane screeds about the New Republic trying to starve out the sector until they join. You can tell they're doing it because they took out all resistance on Haslett! Underneath all that nonsense, someone has already effectively created a database of shipping losses in the sector, and they're heavily concentrated around Tabercore, with some around Axom as well. The theory thinks the ag cartel on Tabercore is coopted by said New Republic, which makes Con think maybe that's there the leak to the Remnant is coming from. TL-DR begins thinking about posing as an insurance actuary, and Gar suggests that if we could find out the next shipment that the Remnant will intercept, we could poison the cargo and create mass casualties, thus teaching some fascists a lesson. Mylla will go in with TL-DR, posing as actuary and computational droid. Everyone else will wait on the ship.

We arrive on planet, and the Wookie actuary and her droid visit the Ag Cartel office. TL-DR explains that due to recent shipping losses, their firm needs to recompute risk premiums, and they'd like to see the cartel's data to make sure they have full data. This sends the cartel into a panic. They are so scared that they don't for a moment stop to consider that someone might be running a game on them. TL-DR then accesses their computers and starts pulling records. Every missing shipment has had the same inspector. That guy is going to be having himself an interesting day. But then... someone thinks to double-check, calls the home office, and then security comes to ask them why nobody at Consolidated Insurance has ever heard of them.
