Phex decides to lay low on the station and blend in while waiting for his ride out, finding a bunk at a flophouse where he could also post an ad stating that he's looking for work. He's not got all of his normal tools of the trade but he's not totally unarmed either. He's at the local spacer's guild when he sees three men enter, one of them being the goon Myla decked in the casino. They meet another Rodian and it's not a friendly conversation, asking him questions pretty sternly before bringing in a fourth man. This guy looks like a civilian and, it turns out, is a witness. He clears the first Rodian but then points the finger at Phex. Phex pays his tab but the three man approach with hands on holstered blasters, warning him not to start any trouble.

The witness says Phex stabbed someone named Jono but Phex maintains his innocence. The trio say they're station security forces and that Phex should come with them, and they don't look inclined to talk more about it here. Phex decides it's a boring conversation and starts blasting, shooting the leader of the trio in the throat and killing him instantly. One of the remaining mooks fires but misses and the other tries to tackle Phex to the floor, bowling them into a table of spacer civilians. Phex plants the muzzle of his blaster into the mook's chest and dispatches him before scrambling to his feet to make his getaway. The last mook fires wildly and manages to tag Phex (and a couple civilians) but the Rodian marksman is beating feet. The mook is adept at giving chase and manages to let off another shot, scoring a fearsome wound on Phex. Phex stops, turns, takes aim, and manages to drop the mook with a single shot before spinning on his heel to keep booking. He makes his way into a maintenance area and applies a stimpack to himself.

The Asset heads back to the Umboldt system after most of a day and rings up Phex on comms. He informs the crew that he's killed three more mafia henchmen which puts to bed any plans to dock in the station again. Phex is told to steal a shuttle if he wants off of that station. He manages to find a shuttle in a mostly empty docking bay and sets to work prying the door open by cutting wires with his vibro knife. Someone shouts that a vagabond is trying to steal their shuttle but Phex pays them no mind, rushing into the cockpit. A pre-flight check is something Phex knows conceptually exists but he doesn't have time for that while Myla tries to walk him through it. He quickly learns that docking clamps very much exist and he's forgotten to disengage them! He manages to get the shuttle mobile and shoots the mechanisms that are closing the blast doors before punching the throttle, jetting out into the rings of Umboldt and doing his best to not crash into anything. He manages to avoid an ion cannon burst, and any dust or rocks that could damage his newly stolen shuttle, before getting into rendezvous with the Asset.

They swap Phex for their prisoner, giving him the shuttle albeit with now disabled weapons and plugging in a course that'll get him close to the station. TLDR explains to him the situation and the mafioso is grateful he's not getting killed and straps in for a ride.

The Asset lays in a course for Umboldt-Levity station a quarter way along the planetary rings and manages to bluff their way into a docking berth. Gar, TLDT and Igli book passage back to Umboldt-Hope on a shuttle while the rest of the crew lay low on Umboldt-Levity. Con tinkers on Myla's vibrosword between trips to the head.

Gar heads back to the casino to meet his black market contact, who seems incredibly paranoid. He's afraid someone is trying to horn in on his claim on this station but he did manage to salvage more gear. He advises they meet at docking bay three. Igli and TLDR notice their erstwhile hostage getting escorted into the casino by a mob goon but he didn't clock them, phew! Gar clues them into the location of the Firespray ship but he and Igli aren't able to beat the dealer there.

Gar checks out the scrap, TIE panels, and some other bits including a concussion missile. They start haggling on price while TLDR makes his approach to plant the tracker on the ship. The droid manages to slap the tracker in a hidden location on one of the vanes without anyone being the wiser. Gar decides to buy the panels and electronic bits and bobs but not the missile and it's a done deal with a promise to meet up at Umboldt-Courage in a few weeks, at the Corialis bar. Igli manages to salvage some choice bits from the scrap but they ditch the rest before making their way back to Umboldt-Levity.

The crew take off and hang out in space while waiting for the tracker to ping them. Their New Republic handler sends them a bounty contract with Phex as the target, letting them know they've drawn some attention. They ping back that they're doing their job and the mission is going apace. It's not long until the tracker notifies them that the Firespray has jumped to Tabercor. He leaves a couple days later for Galbart's Star, a dusty, gaseous nebula where stars are forming. Only one exists at the moment but the nebula is thick with stellar material.

Coordinates are set for the same jump point as the smuggler but in clear space and the Asset takes a look around before powering down so it won't be spotted. Days go by before the Firespray comes out of the nebula and jumps back to Umboldt. The crew goes into the nebula and finds a starfighter training course complete with targeting buoys. They decide to install a sensor package into one that will alert them when it's activated before withdrawing and powering down yet again, deciding to lay in wait. The Firespray returns after some time and begins tractoring wreckage before, suddenly, a capital ship jumps into the nebula. It's an Interdictor heavy cruiser!

The Asset stays dark and silent, as does the Firespray, as both ships are definitely in the gravity well.

}}
The crew spends some of their down time, due to delays at the spaceport, figuring out just where to go next. Ember reveals her desire to find more people like her to help them, though Kyruss notes that finding out who made her to stop them would be more important. Franco thinks that'd carry a high body count but no one seems to mind.

Since they're still in port, the crew spends the rest of their time finishing up projects, like Janus' agriculture future research. She discovers there appears to be a second version of Benevolence operating behind the scenes and manipulating things. Kyruss discovers there's a bounty on Drix, issued by the Long Watch.

Franco meets his Duzan contact for the hand off and they have a short conversation concerning Ember and how the Duzan Combine may sway her to work with them. They need to evaluate her power and task Franco with surveilling her for further research. Ember believes she could find more of her kind in the Estrypso system and there's some terrible presence there, watching, and apparently, waiting.

Drix tries to find more information on this Benevolence split, dubbing the second version 'Malevolence' at Kyruss' suggestion. His leads come to dead ends as he keeps finding the same result in his searches, but it's a communications address. He dials it up and has a conversation with Benevolence, who recommends finding out more about Jericho's operation on Asrir. He can utilize the same address for further communications.

Janus finds a milk run contract to Estrypso system and the Stormlight gets into drillspace. Drix and Ember have a conversation about helping her with her quest but Ember rejects his offer of guidance. He leaves Ember to her own devices. Janus finds him and asks him about his findings with the Benevolence/Malevolence dichotomy and he tells her that they should head to Asrir to impede Jericho's operations. Stopping the Long Watch would insure Ember's safety, after all.

Some time later, Kyruss reports to Janus and informs her that Drix has a bounty on his head from the Watch. She fills him in on Drix's contact with the 'real' Benevolence and he wonders if they can trust it. He also wonders if turning in Drix might no be a bad idea after all.

The Stormlight makes it to Estrypso and find that the paperwork here is horrendous. She tries to offer a bribe, which isn't well received, and tries to move things along. Kyruss steps in, showing his legal authority as a Federal Marshall, but it doesn't seem to get recognized. There's more paperwork about quarantining the crew but Kyruss puts a vibro blade to the throat of the port official.

Ember knows that there's a Tempest on this planet and she consults the Abyss which tells her that the Tempest is tens of kilometers in a certain direction. The crew decline to log a flight plan for their shuttle and take the subway in that direction. Drix opens his mind to the Abyss as well and feels strong emotions from their target; she's angry, looking for revenge, and obsessed with space-pop music.

Franco tries to hack into the police systems to look for open cases that might relate to Tempest sort of crime. The systems here aren't what he's used to, however, and he has to back out quickly, unsure if he's left any incriminating evidence. The crew soon gets to the right neighborhood, full of tenements and arcologies that Ember described, and Drix knows they're in the right place. Drix begins listening for the right music while Ember tries to follow her feelings. Franco stays in the lobby and begins hacking the residential security system while Kyruss takes up an overwatch position.

Franco is able to find an apartment, newly rented, that's been playing space-pop for 12 hours a day. Ember knocks on the door of the apartment and asks to come in to partake of the space-pop. She hears something heavy move on the other side of the door before it opens and the resident asks who the creep is, meaning Drix. The resident will let Ember in but not him. She's grilled about space-pop by the resident, who bears more than a passing familiarity to Ember.

The resident is from an orphanage in Volnulia, which is the same system Ember's orphanage was, but she seems wary. Drix gets a feeling that there's something very bad happening in the apartment, like a storm moving in. He warns Kyruss moments before the resident attempts to use her own Tempest powers on Ember, but she's able to deflect them.

Franco sees that there are calls being made to the cops and warns Kyruss. He interrupts the terse, tense conversation between the resident and Ember but the resident is already packing up to leave. Ember gives her the name of the ship and tells her to contact them, which gets a scoff and a joke about what she'd name her bear. Ember confirms she has a bear and the resident reveals she has one of the very same. She jumps out the window with her backpack before the crew hightails it. A few moments later, a huge thunderclap rocks the building and alarms start going off everywhere. They run into the security forces on their way out, who ask for ID. Drix is able to suggest they focus elsewhere and they make their escape to the ship.

Franco goes in pursuit of the resident and it's quite a slog to track her and keep up. She eventually heads into a cafe and digs out a portable terminal to go online. He sets up surveillance of the resident and informs the crew. Ember seems to trust that she'll reach out. The resident eventually gets up and leaves, heading into an alleyway that forces Franco to stay well back before heading for a hotel. Soon enough, the crew at the ship get a call.

Ember and the resident talk about Volnulia, how there might be more of them. She'll exchange info but she isn't going with Ember under any circumstances. Ember gets frustrated enough to lash out, screaming at the other crew members to get away from her and let her talk. She tries to implore with the resident but doesn't find much of any common ground and she eventually hangs up.

Franco continues his surveillance while Janus warns Kyruss that she doesn't want another Ember on her ship. They agree to try to convince Ember to get the information she wants and then leave the resident here. They're taking care of the cargo when a cutter bearing the same signature as Captain Kamal contacts them.

Franco and Drix recuperate after having new modifications implanted in their bodies. Kyruss, meanwhile, figures it's time to bring Trogruls to justice. He starts hunting down information and goes to talk to a barkeeper named Cygnus at the aptly named Peanut Gallery. She's not there but they make some small talk and waste time with the other employees and the few regular prospectors that turn up to day drink. Some are much more surly than others and complain about having their mining beacons hacked by unscrupulous criminals.

Ember decides to have a few nips of bourbon and accidentally slips by the Abyss as she gets more and more tilted. She sees the intricate machinery of Tempest creation and how complex it really is. How do they keep it all together? She's crying to Janus about someone named Roya and hoping she can find them. Janus takes Ember's drink away and they begin arguing about who's in charge of whom. Ember starts screaming and the building starts shaking, causing some minor destruction and consternation. She decides to head outside.

Cygnus arrives a little while later and Kyruss questions her about Trogruls. She reveals that Trogruls almost always goes after greenhorns and inexperienced victims to steal from. He's a thief, but not violent. They decide to go after Trogruls at one of his claims.

Drix spends some of his time recuperating in the hospital by investigating the financials of Benevolence and it's reach in this sector.

Kyruss, Janus and Ember head out to one of Trogrul's claims to set up an ambush. Ember is playing the part of bait and hears some noises in the brush. She lashes out at the noises and a filthy Ceinerth gets yanked towards her from the brush. She begins interrogating him but he points out that her screaming will draw the attention of Broadheads in the area. It's a bluff but there is something big and toothy nearby that decides to bolt and nearly tramples Kyruss. Kyruss moves in to pass a shock collar to Ember so she can fit it on the wriggly Ceinerth. They bag and tag him and drop him off, collecting the bounty and letting Ember keep it.

Franco confirms with his Duzan contacts that the pickup is still under way. They confirm the pick up of the embryo is on schedule and time and their team is coming in the next couple days. Drix and Janus decide to work together to do more financial investigation into Mundy's Paradise and Benevolence's manipulation in the sector. Kyruss and Drix discuss Ember's future and which of them might be the better mentor for her, but they don't seem to be in agreement.

The Stormlight is fixed up and returned from drydock but the airlock is still giving issues, throwing errors saying the airlock is not closed. The ship, succinctly, won't leave atmosphere in this condition. The crew believes that the drydock has sabotaged things to screw them out of more money but Drix will handle it. He Suggests to them that they fix it properly and they send a crew over. Janus gets a call from he drydock shortly after, informing her that they don't believe they are at fault for this further trouble. Janus has to argue with them about what their warranty actually covers and the legal implications thereof and the work crew is sent back.

Franco has to make moves to get the Stormlight from leaving right away. He leaves the ship and loses his Fed Marshall escort before scrubbing his face paint off and approaching a Long Watchman. He tells them that Sholvith is harboring a Duzan fugitive at the spaceport and they may be leaving very soon. It's a lie but it's convincing enough to get the Long Watch to place a halt on all outgoing flights at the spaceport. Franco keeps up the ruse of being a concerned citizen long enough to get back to the ship.

Kyruss and Ember spend some time looking at bounties with the T'Selek showing the human girl how to spot attractive prospects. Drix continues looking at the agricultural futures evidence Janus has uncovered so they can figure out just who might be profiting from the continued blockade of Mundy's Paradise.

}}
The crew continues trying to figure out who might have a mech on this rock and why they're using it to murder survey teams. Franco decides to do some research into the financials of certain folks on planet.

He finds Sholvith, a green Duzan, who has many holdings in the sector, including mining interests. There's a shadowy human named Ernest Mircun that fits the bill, a black sheep from old money, who was paid off to disappear. Both men tend to stay on planet, though Sholvith comes and goes. There's also Vols, single name, a human who isn't well known but always seems to have spending money. He comes to town enough that people recognize him but no one knows what his profession is or even where he lives.

Drix decides to approach Sholvith to see if the Duzan might be interested in the survey teams location. Sholvith is a busy man and there're a few layers of underlings and functionaries but Drix is very suggestive and convincing. He's shown in quickly to meet the man and makes his pitch.

Sholvith is curt about not being interested in non-mining concerns, nor in becoming a business partner with Drix with any venture. Drix realizes the Duzan isn't bearing him any fruit and takes his leave.

Trogruls, a Ceinerth, is a name that pops up on Janus' radar while she looks for criminal contacts. He's a known claim jumper and some folks who've accused him have wound up dead in 'accidents'. Janus finds someone who knows where his claims are but is reticent to be a narc. Janus promises him that she can get him off planet in exchange for the info and that seals the deal.

Franco continues researching armatures and mechs and finds a story from a few years back where a mech was used in a cash heist. There was forensic evidence tying the mech used to a human, Archie Herrara, who has an outstanding bounty but no one's seen him since. Still, video of the heist confirms that the mech used is the same sort the crew found evidence of on Thavrea.

Kyruss argues in favor of flying the shuttle over the survey team's crime scene and try to pick up the trail of the mech again. No one has any alternative plan and the shuttle is armored, so they decide to head out in the morning. Franco does some pre-planning of the geography, coming up with ideas of how to get past resistance, especially if the enemy is under manned.

Drix consults the Abyss that night and the murky, dark visions tell him that the mech is underwater somewhere. He tells Janus this as if it's common knowledge, which is slightly unsettling, and she rebuts that it was a possibility she had considered but she's startled by his confidence. Ember is unable to sleep and she consults the Abyss as well, centering herself on the lab at the Groasak station, finding an image of a crab logo with some gross looking coloring.

The crew piles into the shuttle and begins flying over the river. Drix's scanner picks up a rather large magnetic anomaly under the river and they're pretty sure that's where the mech is since this area is known to not have any proper minerals. The river is deep so visual confirmation is difficult and Janus decides to land the shuttle nearby behind a hill to avoid detection. Drix uses his scanner to help the crew move in towards the river quietly and quickly. He spies what has to be a concealed lookout post across the river and identifies a limestone cave nearby that might be their main hideout.

Moving across the river, the crew has to make the swim across the wide but slow river. Drix and Kyruss move towards the lookout post and find one bad guy inside, armed with an assault rifle. Kyruss is able to take him out unseen and unheard, finding his 'alarm' as a simple air horn. Drix scans the area while the rest of the crew heads up to the lookout and he finds a trap door with a ladder going down.

He finds some SCUBA gear on a hook and both Drix and Janus follow him down the ladder. She takes the gear back up while Franco moves deeper into the complex. He finds a human man reading a datapad while eating a meal and disables him with a swift, silent rock to the head. The crew surmises they might just have what they need to climb into the mech and Janus slips into the SCUBA gear and heads into the river. She can't find a way into the mech and comes back ashore.

Franco hears some folks coming to the now pitch black mess and one flicks on the lights but earns a Nano-Blade in the back. Things get hectic and shotgun shells are expended down the hallway by both Franco and Drix, return fire coming back heavy, before a few more shotgun blasts silence everything, except for a dropped grenade. Drix takes the brunt of the force but his shields take most of the pain out.

The pair move through the tunnels and find the caves are rather spartan and rough living. One of the corpses is Vols and they find some exploded bank notes, and then find the corpse of Archie. There was a duffel bag full of cash that was mostly exploded and there's little else of value to the crew, though the local authorities will find a lot of evidence of varying stripes here. Kyruss gets a new shotgun and a bounty out of the deal, at least.

The payoff for clearing the outlaws from their caves and recovering the armature makes a lot of waves with the local authorities. They had two witnesses to go along with the other evidence and the crew manages to actually get paid for once.

Eilnul and Trembath begin offloading the embyros from the Stormlight but Ember has questions. She approaches Eilnul and asks him what will stop the people that come from the embryos ending up like herself. The rogue geneticist doesn't seem to think the embyros will be viable, largely, and even having one reach full maturity and become an actual person is a long shot. Ember cautions him to err on the side of optimism and have a plan for these embyros to defy the odds.

Thavrea is a nearby system where the freeze dried mushroom cargo and Velloids could all be offloaded for some spending money. The ship takes flight and Drix approaches Ember for more information on her memories and background. She's not very forthcoming, adamant that she's given him everything already, but Drix persists. He asks to hold her bear, and the Mystic consults the Abyss to try and find the hidden knowledge associated with it. Ember had stolen the bear from another orphan after they passed and kept it hidden on the fear of someone finding it. Still, she doesn't know (and neither does the bear) where the orphanage was or what it looked like from the outside.

She runs into Franco and he invites her to have a meal in the galley. The Duzan has an offer while he heats up ration packs, asking her if she's more invested in her future than her past. Franco asks Ember what she wants for herself and if she'd consider being placed with some of his 'connections' in exchange for that desired future. She doesn't want to become anyone's lab rat ever again and seems resistant, especially for such a vague offer. Franco assures her that he'll work on the details if she'll remain open to the idea of exchanging some information on herself for better prospects.

Janus confronts Kyruss about his trigger happy attitude and the two verbally spar about how they approach the Long Watch. Kyruss maintains that smuggling is Janus' wheelhouse and she needs to get better at keeping the Stormlight off the Long Watch's radar. Janus maintains that the chronic lack of money, caused in part by Kyruss' shootings, is more responsible for their woes. The two agree to disagree.

Ember decides to begin looking for others who might understand her better and who could understand her better than other Tempests? She begins combing through galactic news reports, looking for stories of the unexplainable that might be the result of Tempests exercising their powers.

The Stormlight arrives at Thavrea an the Federal Marshalls are waiting for us when the crew disembarks. Captain Achernar has a bone to pick with Kyruss and states that there's been a complaint lodged against him via the Long Watch. He doesn't want any trouble from Kyruss, or the Long Watch, and Kyruss is demure, stating he's simply here to turn in his bounty.

Janus offloads the shrooms and finds that trade in kind actually favors her for once, bringing aboard some astrographic and planetary data of a newly discovered planet that's very rich in minerals. Kyruss finds out that a survey team doing agricultural viability studies has gone missing and there's a reward for discovering their status. The two mull over the idea and Drix soon finds them in the bar.

Franco contacts his Duzan handlers and informs them of his appropriation of the enhanced embryo and his start to grooming Ember to come over. They arrange to send a Duzan pick up of the embryo, and possibly setting up a dead drop. They'll stay in contact and ask him to keep the Stormlight from taking off too soon. He heads back to the ship and further sabotages the airlock with a few expert tweaks. The ship will fail pre-flight checks even after it's repaired.

Ember hits the galactic news hub and begins researching stories and the rest of the crew eventually comes back from drinking. They decide to look for the ag-survey team come first light and take the shuttle when morning comes to start looking for them. Drix scans the surroundings and finds some interesting tidbits about the geography, some mineral veins and cave systems. There's some disturbed earth and some bipedal mech tracks but no signs of a fight and the tracks move towards a river. They set the shuttle down and begin investigating.

The crew begins uncovering the upturned earth and find an ATV with 5 bodies, matching the description of the survey team and the last known vehicle they were in. Two were shot in the back and the vehicle has suffered some energy weapon burns. There are no personal effects on the bodies, appearing to have been sanitized to keep them anonymous. Franco begins hacking into the vehicles data logs, hoping to see if he can find any pertinent data. Kyruss is concerned that a mech ambushed this vehicle and begins keeping an eye out. Ember joins him.

The teenaged Tempest soon figures out, while she and Kyruss move around the perimeter, that he's trying to teach her how to hunt and how to survive in the wilderness in an oddly parental fashion. She still doesn't entirely trust him not to eat her but the education is new. Of course, she gets an important lesson when she finally spots the animal that's been stalking them. Known locally as a Broadhead, the six limbed, four eyed creature with a rather wide, toothy maw. Kyruss spies one as well and points it out to Ember, unaware at the time that there's two. He hands her his assault rifle

Ember's fear gets the better of her and she aims the rifle and holds the trigger down as an unnatural shriek rises from the teen. She guns down the first Broadhead and the second charges in but is shot by Kyruss in turn, gravely wounding the beast. Kyruss takes the rifle from the freaked out Ember, loads a new magazine and humanely dispatches the wounded Broadhead. They radio the rest of the crew to let them know what's happened before they continue patrolling. They find the mech tracks and Kyruss is sure this isn't some civilian load carrier but is a dedicated combat machine.

Franco discovers the travel data and sees how the vehicle was ambushed before being disabled and the crew presumably killed. It would appear these crew was on the verge of discovering something that was meant to be kept secret and the owner of said secrets destroyed them with extreme prejudice before covering up the evidence.

They crew brings the bodies back to the settlement and speak to the Armature in charge, explaining that the mech indicates they've got a big problem on their hands and this is no petty criminal. Kyruss wants to get a posse together but the townsfolk aren't interested in getting killed by a mech or the weird fauna here. The crew needs to come up with a plan.

}}
The crew completes the rendezvous of the shuttle and the Stormlight in low orbit and the crew heads to their stations to prepare for drill space before heading to Groasak. Franco and Trembath move the cargo from the shuttle to the Stormlights cargo bay. Kyruss keeps working on his Explodo-Pistol while Ember confronts Drix about his project to discover more of her past.

She's frustrated at the apparent lack of progress on things but Drix feels like he's close to a breakthrough and proscribes patience. Ember's not really feeling it and is only more put out by his feel good mumbo jumbo. She asks Drix what her future might hold and he tells her he sees her back at the orphanage. He sees her with people uniformed as the Long Watch but he's not sure if they're friend or foe. But, in the end, he sees her enjoying her freedom. Ember wants to know more but Drix remains cryptic. Janus continues doing research on her agricultural futures work.

Franco helps Trembath hook the crates up to the ships power and he questions him about the plan from here. Trembath says that his contacts on Groasak should be pleasantly surprised to see him and will not only help but will pay Janus (and crew) for her help. The Duzan thinks there's too much hope and not enough plan in this caper and Trembath seems to agree but it is what it is. He eventually heads to his bunk to collapse but Franco remains behind. He checks out the embyros and their cryo storage before heading to make a miniature version, big enough for one embyro.

The Stormlight arrives at the Groasak system, home to one habitable planet with a station in orbit. Janus announces to the crew that they've arrived and will be heading towards the station shortly. Franco espouses caution since the situation may be different than expected. Sure enough, there's a Long Watch ship docked at the station already but it's not making any moves. The ships seems to be local enforcement, not sent from Tiberius, but it's still disconcerting.

Trembath reports that his contact is a Mrup named Eilnul. Janus thinks it might be safer for her to contact Eilnul instead of Trembath and she hits him up via comms. Eilnul seems suspect and Janus isn't giving up any details but they arrange a meeting. Janus, Kyruss and Drix will head to the station to meet up with Eilnul but they ask Trembath some questions about this arrangement first. He explains his history with Eilnul and the scientific cabal they had joined.

The trio step off the shuttle and there's a functionary waiting for them. He reports there are some irregularities in their ship registration data and Janus insists on sorting those out right now. The functionary reports that there was been an impound and repossession order placed on the Stormlight. Kyruss lies through his mandibles that they simply requisitioned the shuttle from the Stormlight and they aren't the owners. The functionary buys that but insists the shuttle can't be allowed to take off until the matter is sorted out.

Kyruss insists they're here on official business apprehending a fugitive by the name of Velloids. The functionary is happy to let him go about his business, but the shuttle stays impounded. Kyruss doesn't waste any time and starts looking into catching Velloids. Janus decides to peel off from Drix and Kyruss and go about the business of contacting Eilnul. Drix, however, is recognized by a member of the Long Watch who seems proud to tell him he's been marked persona non grata for associating with abominations. They tell him that they'll be taking him to Tiberius and draw weapons before giving him an ultimatum.

Drix doesn't waste any time when the firefight breaks out, drawing his mystic weapon and diving for cover while blasting at both Watchmen. One is taken out almost immediately but the other grabs cover while Drix reloads. Kyruss announces himself as a star marshall and to cease and desist but simply gets involved in the fire fight for his efforts. The Watchman is put down and the two try to figure out their next steps but the station security soon arrives in force.

Back on the Stormlight, Ember decides to take matters into her own hands. She doesn't need Drix's seering when all that knowledge is in her own head. She just needs to unlock those memories and decides to use the Abyss to do so. She settles in...

Back on the station, Drix is suddenly having an out of body experience and something is telling him that something is happening on the Stormlight. What Kyruss sees is Drix spasming in the chair he was sitting in at the local constabulary, the man now planking as if he was planning to fly off somewhere Superman style. Ember has the same feeling tugging at her and she knows that 'that way' is where she came from, and whatever is out there knows where she is too. It's always known.

Janus makes it to the bar, unaware of the firefight behind her, and meets Eilnuil. She mentions a mutual friend from Xeoys University and it almost knocks Eilnul off his paws. They make it clear that they're both talking about Trembath. Eilnul needs a little time to set things up but will give Janus some coordinates in an hour or so. Janus warns him that there may be some complications and it could take longer than expected but she's working on those things. They part ways with Eilnul looking quite a bit more paranoid now. Janus figures her biggest obstacle is in the administration offices and she begins heading that way.

Drix begins blubbering that he's not guilty of the heresies he's accused of and Kyruss proclaims that his confidential informant has been traumatized. Kyruss asserts that Drix was working to help expose corruption in the Long Watch. They'll let Kyruss leave, minus his weapon since it's now evidence, but they're concerned Drix isn't mentally all there. The cops let Kyruss know that the Watch has put out a bulletin against him and they're inclined to cooperate with the Watch. They're clearly intimating that there's some jurisdictional dick waving going on but Kyruss isn't having any of it. He intimidates the cop into submission before he and Drix leave. Janus is there and notices the weird energy on the station after having walked through the remnants of the firefight and she sees Kyruss try to slap some sense into Drix.

Janus chides Kyruss for not backing her up at the bar but he notes Drix's strange state. They see other people pointing in the same direction that Drix was earlier and ponder if it was something the Long Watch did. Drix is coming around and he mentions it's the Abyss but beyond that, he has no idea what's happening. He looks like shit and Janus thinks getting some food in his belly might help. She fills in Drix and Kyruss on Eilnul's part of the conspiracy. Still, there's the issue of the shuttle and how to get that straightened out.

Kyruss seems confident that they could requisition it back so long as Velloids is in his custody. In order to do that, he needs to find some criminal scum and start asking questions. Eilnul contacts Janus and tells her that storage is set up and in place. She reminds him that this package is COD and he asks her to commit to keeping the delivery safe. She decides to help Kyruss find Velloids and reaches out to the local criminal scene. They don't mind losing Velloids but his stills supply alcohol to a lot of shady places on the station. If Janus can promise that his operation will keep going without him, they can haul him off. They give up his location and the trio head off.

Janus presents herself as a buyer for a shipping magnate looking to open a new source. He's only happy to explain how they ferment their booze from station bio-waste. Yum. They let him explain it all before glancing at their contact and making sure he's happy. He seems to be and so Kyruss produces his badge and pistol and places Velloids under arrest.

Franco is still working on his mini-freezer, unaware that Ember is freaking out and hiding elsewhere on the ship itself. Things are progressing on the station as Eilnul has secured payment but Janus wants some of it up front. Eilnul is reluctant to do that but wants to tag along after handing over the cash and not letting the crew out of his sight. They manage to get the shuttle un-impounded and head back to the Stormlight where Franco and Ember are waiting.

Eilnul freaks out when he spies Ember and approaches her, trying to examine her but she pushes him back. He asks a slew of inappropriate medical questions but Ember is just confused. He seems to know she's 'one of them' which surprises Trembath. The rest of the crew seems alarmed at this revelation but not as much as Ember who grabs a spacesuit helmet and chucks it at the airlock, shattering it and the door itself. Most everyone hits the deck as Ember demands answers. Eilnul tries to explain the scientific basis of her existence and Ember wants to know her personal history. Eilnul proclaims that she can't be a part of Project Caliban, which seems to be the thing in which Eilnul and Trembath were involved.

Ember seems shaken by all this new knowledge, and Eilnul shaken for having given it. Trembath gets him some coffee to steady his nerves while Eilnul explains the minutiae of genetic engineering. Eilnul wants to crack the secret to how Ember seems stable and, y'know, alive, and take Ember to the medlab for tissue analysis. Her genetic material is definitely not the same as the stuff they've been working on but might know the people that were. Someone named Grigori had been working on the particular line of scientific exploration that could've lead to Ember's design. Grigori happens to be Eilnul's assistant. Ember rejects the idea of design, because she had parents, right? Trembath tells her that she more likely had donors.

The decision is made to dock with the station since the shuttle airlock is damaged beyond repair. Franoc manages to slip one of the embyros from the containers into his miniature version and stash it, but it's a close thing. The Stormlight docks with the station and Kyruss reclaims his weapon from evidence while Janus unloads the cheap booze in exchange for freeze dried mushrooms.

Janus reaches out to Trembath to set up the job to move the illicit, daresay abominable, embryos. He's an older gentleman and looks like he hasn't slept in a while. He's a little squirrelly but eager to make things happen. They eager to meet outside a bar in a bit to talk over the mission, as it were, and the dangers ahead.

The crew member who were arrested don't want to endanger Janus or Trembath and so they come up with a scheme of their own; being seen. Franco and Kyruss go find a Watch post and make it well known that they're in town and not afraid to show their faces. Drix does the same and sure enough, all three are soon being unsubtly tailed. Drix finds an old friend of his, Zena Pavond, talking shit about him behind his back and advocating that other Watchmen keep their distance from Drix.

Janus and Ember head to the bar to find Trembath and he's there, as promised. He explains that the embryos require life support, and constant power, and it won't be easy to move them. Janus inquires about where they're being held and it's going to be tight for even a shuttle, less than ideal. In any case, it sounds like the Stormlight can handle things but the captain is curious about payment. Trembath is skint but could arrange a COD situation. Trembath is worried about moving the embryos from his lab to the pickup spot, about the security of it, and Janus loans him Ember as extra muscle. Janus returns to the ship and lets the three arrestees know while Ember heads off with Trembath.

The older geneticist seems like he's been alone for a while and he's jabbering about scientific mumbo-jumbo to Ember while they head for his lab. Ember wonders what Trembath is really up to and he's over the moon in describing to her what he would need for a new life support device, and also details on most other things. He's pretty lonely.

Janus explains the details of the job to Franco, Drix and Kyruss. Patrol corporal Orvuils is a contact in the Tiberius Police that Frtanco has, in case thinks get hinky. The plan is to have Franco and Kyruss go to the pickup point and get it ready for Trembath's package. Drix will take the Stormlight into low orbit and Janus will bring the shuttle to the pickup once things are ready. The crew will load the package into the shuttle and return to the Stormlight. Easy!

Ember can only take so much of nudging Trembath awake as he works and rambles mostly to himself and she drifts off into the Abyss. The embryos are her cousins, in a way, and she hopes that they (and herself) can find a community where they're safe. Meanwhile, Franco and Kyruss are heading for the pickup spot to begin prepping it but the cops are everywhere. Someone's following Franco but Kyruss spots him and alerts the infiltrator to the issue. Franco manages to give him the slip utilizing his chameleon smartskin and begins to prepare his hack and crack for later.

Kyruss scopes out the security surveillance situation and finds a security office nearby that is likely watching via cameras. He presents himself at the office as a duly appointed federal law enforcer and asks to speak to a supervisor. Kare-er, Kyruss, explains that he needs to review their recordings and is allowed to do so. He points out an innocuous nothing-burger and explains that they'll need to move in equipment for forensic analysis, thus setting up cover for moving Trembath's embryos. Kyruss is able to fabricate a facsimile of a warrant over night while Franco stays on premises to prepare a false report of a superpowered human teen wreaking massive amounts of property damage somewhere else in the city.

Janus and Drix remain on the Stormlight and the captain continues her research into agricultural futures and how one might utilize a cut-off grain-farming planet to their advantage. Ember falls asleep thinking of how to prevent the embryos from suffering the same sort of life she's lived through and it results in nightmares of herself turning into an inbred mutant and Kyruss eating the eggs with gusto.

The crew gets prepped for the move and Franco begins hacking the police alert net, dropping in a report that a man matching Trembaths description has been injured, possibly killed, by a teen matching Embers description somewhere on the other side of the city. He's pretty sure he's tripped some sort of counter measure but there's no time for that now. Janus is flying casual in the shuttle while she waits for Franco's signal. He soon gives the signal to Janus and Trembath and the captain begins her approach while the scientist unhooks the crates of embryos. They hustle across the street as the 'forensic' team and Kyruss presents the warrant but something is... off. The guard doesn't seem convinced and so Kyruss pulls his gun.

The guard hits a panic button his desk which raises a security shield over him. Kyruss tells the rest of the crew to hustle while he wrecks the computers. The rest of the crew hustles for the service elevator but finds a locked door in the way. With her frustration mounting, Ember kicks the door hard enough to explode it, much to everyone's surprise, but if it works, it works. They meet Janus on the roof and head up into orbit and the Stormlight waiting above.

}}
The crew finds that Hole In One is in real bad shape. Bodies, blast marks and more mark the path to landing control and Drix finds it looking like the last holdout of a siege. There doesn't appear to be anyone left alive, certainly not in the main facility, but it's possible folks have retreated to more secure holdings elsewhere. Franco looks over the bodies to see if he recognizes anyone and finds Cutter's corpse but that might be a good thing.

Janus gets a call from 'Sally Three Hands' but it's actually Cosmo and they explain that things went hot after Vinny Star was taken out. He mentions something exploded in their warehouse and took out quite a few people but things were hot and heavy by then. Their adversaries had military weapons AND training which strikes him as odd, and they got to Sally.

There're other ships docked, including a surface-to-atmo transport carrier and another smuggler ship that Sally intended to use to escape. Janus wants to scavenge everything not tied down but the rest of the crew is feeling squirrelly, especially knowing that there are still some of Sally's people on the planet aside from the mercs. Kyruss, Franco and Ember decide to check out the transport hauler while Janus and Drix will take the Stormlight into orbit to keep it safe.

Arche is hoping the crew will extend his ticket to Hole In One to literally anywhere else. If he'll help them search the transport then he can tag along. Janus gets a hold of Sally's crew and asks them what they're willing to pay for passage off the rock. They don't have much but they're willing to give literally all of it in exchange for a ticket.

The cargo hauler seems to be more or less in one piece but someone's monkeyed with the fuel system. That might cause some lethal; fireworks if their ride is too bumpy. Some of the bulkheads are in bad shape as well but Kyruss and Franco are keeping their eyes peeled as they take off. It's a bumpy ride but Franco gets it into orbit and the crew is able to shift cargo from the hauler to the Stormlight. They decide to take their profits and run, heading out from Hole In One with no additional passengers and moving for Tiberius with the relatively cheap cargo on board.

There's a large contingent of Long Watchmen waiting for the ship, again, and so Ember stays hidden in the ship. Strekred is back, again, with his fellows and they move to stand in the way of the crew. Drix takes the lead, addressing him directly and reiterating that they have an abomination on board. Kyruss is fed up with these spurious 'lies' and points a pistol in Strekreds face. He tells the man to leave and he resolutely says he can't do that. Strekred gets shot in the face and a lot of weapons are drawn.

Drix tries to fall back and gets shot for his efforts as the Watchmen move into a formation of some sort. Kyruss gives Franco some covering fire with his assault rifle and the Infiltrator lets off a few shotgun shells, bringing one Watchman down. More shooting erupts from Kyruss as he moves around the Watchmen, gunning one down while Drix tries to back off to the ship once more.

Franco rushes in with his nano blade and rams it home into another Watchman. Kyruss keeps the attention of the remaining Watchman and Franco soon ends him. The two wait for the local authority to arrive, which is surely happening, and Franco tells Janus she needs to contact the authority that isn't the Long Watch. Franco and Kyruss are fine relinquishing their weapons but Drix isn't about that life. He uses his mystic powers of suggestion to convince them it's fine if he keeps it.

The cops arrest Franco, Kyruss and Drix and take them for processing. Janus decides to sell off the cargo in case there's a need to pay for legal representation. She hits the constable station and presents herself as an eye witness, claiming that they've harassed her in the past. The officer doesn't seem to think there's much to be done besides a full investigation.

Drix is visited in the lock-up by a woman in decked out Long Watch gear who identifies herself as Sister Agatha and she's got a bevy of decorations and medals on her uniform. She reveals she's been studying Drix and is fascinated by Watch-on-Watch violence. Agatha questions Drix, asking if he believes the Long Watch has lost their path and if he's renounced their goals of genetic 'purity'. He agrees to all of it. She asks why Benevolence has contacted her about assisting in transporting a cargo of modified embryos out of the sector.

Drix goes on to explain his recent encounter with an avatar of Benevolence and wonders what other schemes are going on, for they must be many. Agatha tells him that the Long Watch provided many of the funds used to settle this part of space but has lost its way.

Agatha enters Francos cell and he's incredulous. He tells her that he won't accept legal representation from the Long Watch and he'll wait for another lawyer, thanks. She leaves him to dwell on it and goes to see Kyruss, who believes her to be an assassin, probably. Agatha explains that she needs his help to clean up the mess and that she's a Federal Marshall. Kyruss is happy to do have her represent him, and Drix, so long as they can meet with her together. She agrees and pulls Drix into the cell.

Agatha tells the two that Benevolence is in the middle of a larger conspiracy revolving around the tampered embryos and the AI is playing both sides. Agatha would like to spring Drix and Kyruss, after deputizing Kyruss, if they'll agree to it. Kyruss seems amenable but he wants to talk to Franco before agreeing to anything. The Bounty Hunter tells Franco they're being recruited to help expose the corruption in the Long Watch and Franco is on board.

Falsified records are made to show Kyruss has been a deputy marshall for some time and Agatha fast forwards the processing of the three. She seems convinced that Jericho will target her and so she needs to take her leave. Before getting them out, she passes them the contact information for Edern Trembath, the man attempting to transport the embyros.

Janus returns to the ship and brings Ember up to speed before Drix eventually returns to the ship. Franco and Kyruss have business to do, however. Drix explains to Janus what happened and how Benevolence may have overreached itself and turned the Watch into a revenue generating operation instead of adhering to their time honored codes. Drix is still getting used to the deception of things and Janus reinforces the idea that she can't lie to law enforcement if she truly doesn't know what happened.

Kyruss hits up the bounty board looking for work while Franco contacts his handlers, letting them know his focus is shifting to the Long Watch and not Alnair, though he will of course remain under the impression that Alnair is a person of interest. The two make their way back to the ship and Janus would appreciate a heads-up the next time he wants to start a fire fight. Kyruss fills her in, defending his actions, and advises that Ember needs to be included in further decisions. They need to get in touch with Trembeth fast.

Drix finds himself being tailed by the Long Watch in Tiberius and they're not being real subtle about it. He heads back for the ship with a quickness after letting the rest of the crew know. He doesn't recognize any of them by name, though he's pretty certain one of them was with Brother Strekred. Drix decides to take the head-on approach and greets him. This particular Watchman is a Duzan, wearing royal blue facepaint.

The Duzan Watchman, Yorzids, tells Drix that his heresy cannot be allowed to continue and they know he's harboring 'the abomination'. Drix tells him that there's always a time to question oneself and he knows what he's doing and not doing. he turns to leave and another Watchman reveals themselves.

Janus and Kyruss are at The Carbon Brick, a dive bar on Tiberius station that's frequented by freelance pilots and truckers. Galileo, a human fixer that janus is familiar with, motioned the captain over and mentioned that there are jobs available for certain commodities that could use more implements for resolving 'labor disputes'. The situation on Poileps is not unique.

Galileo knows that there's a ship laoded with praseodymium that may be soon heading into Eprueg and it needs repairs. If the crew could move the praseodymium off the ship at Eprueg, it'd be a worthwhile score. Janus can take a few hours to think it over and Galileo shows her the numbers. It'd be worthwhile.

Janus and Kyruss head back to the Stormlight and Kyruss thinks base theft of this nature is the sort of work that tends to get bounties put on people. Ember thinks the split is too bad, Franco thinks it's more petty crime that's beneath him. Even so, Kyruss has a bounty but Ozlaf is a long way. He decides to hand him off for a fraction of the bounty itself and the Ceinerth Guild rep, Stoks, is impressed and a bit dismayed that he even bothered to snag this guy. But hey, crime is crime.

Janus finds a job to ferry a arbitrator rep to Poileps, Halley, who needs to get there quickly. He's bringing his wife to the warzone but no judgement, and he also has a bodyguard Mrup named Odaks. The crew is onboard to do a ferry run and they take the job. Halley and his wife board the ship and Madam Halley is unnaturally beautiful, artificially so. Drix is unnerved at this and goes to his bunk to search his soul. He knows her from somewhere but isn't quite certain where and that bothers him.

The Stormlight heads into drillspace for Poileps. Drix brings Ember her meals since she's wary of the passengers. He questions her about her childhood, her memories of that time, to try and determine more about her past. Franco finds Kyruss away from the passengers and explains he has a bounty for him, a man named Alnair that he recognized with Mendi on their last job in Poileps. Kyruss is happy to take the bounty.

Arbitrator Halley is more of a stick in the mud than anything else but his wife is a different story. Madam Halley is weirdly cultured, showing knowledge of Duzan dining etiquette and even speaking Kyruss' native language about 75% correctly, which is very impresive since she lacks mandibles. She is able to handle her own speaking on political influence in the Sierra Nevada and even drops Brother Jericho's name a couple times.

The Stormlight soon arrives in Poileps and is harassed by customs border control once more. They get to the settlement and there's been some rather nasty violence done very recently. Franco raises Mendi and they banter about needing to speak in person to trade information. The goats are a little malnourished and so their sale is a net loss but at least the ship smells better now.

Drix consults the abyss once more in his meditations to try to remember about Madam Halley. He recalls that his Long Watch training days featured a hologram of Madam Halley but she was referred to as Benevolence back then. Halley's definitely tied to the AI somehow.

Franco and Kyruss take the Stormlight shuttle to the coordinates that Mendi has given them and fly map of the earth to get out to the coordinates. They find a biometric scanner rig that seems to recognize Franco and gives new coordinates. Mendi is waiting for them and Kyruss recognizes that there're two snipers hidden in the flora and their LZ seems to have been messed with. It looks like someone dug something into it. Franco avoids it and touches down but, on Kyruss' advice, leaves the engines running hot.

The two confront Mendi and Franco reveals that Alnair is a mole in their organization. He'll take him off their hands to prevent future consequences. Mendi is resistant to giving him up unless there's more weapons in the offering, which Franco clearly doesn't have. Kyruss notes that Mendi also has a bounty on his head, courtesy of the Singing Palm corp, and they could take him out. Kyruss and Franco tell Mendi that he's a wanted man and they could take him instead and the Ceinerth seems to want a fight.

Kyruss goes to town on the snipers with his assault rifle while pinning some of Mendi's tentacles. The two snipers start firing, Franco lands a solid shotgun blast on Mendi and rings his bell. More assault rifle fire from Kyruss helps keep the snipers busy while Franco KOs Mendi with a stun shot from his pistol. Kyruss is at the shuttle and there's covering fire from the bounty hunter, taking out the second sniper, while the infiltrator takes Mendi back to the shuttle.

Janus resolves the contract with the Arbitrator but Drix has some news; Madam Halley is an avatar of benevolence and that means bad things are going to happen on this rock. Janus can't warn Franco and Kyruss about this for fear that sending a signal will cause them to be detected but she agrees. She's looking for work though and happens to find out that Arche, the OTHER cutter crewman that baorded their ship last time, wants off Poileps. He wants to head for Hole In One and though he doesn't relish flying with Kyruss, he'll do it.

Ember's thought strayed to her past when she was in the facility and she recalled Roya, a friend, who discussed escaping. When the time came, Ember didn't heistate but Roya did and was left behind. Ember justified leaving her behind by telling herself that her heart wasn't in it but Ember isn't sure she believes that. There's a vision of a woman who looks like Madam Halley, dressed in Long Watch gear, comforting Roya and telling her everything will be okay.

Franco and Kyruss make it back to the ship with Mendi and find Arche in the brig. Kyruss takes him from the brig to the mess for food while Franco talks to Mendi. He's not willing to budge on Alnair and so Franco turns him over to Kyruss. A security team from Singing Palm shows up shortly to collect. Janus informs Kyruss that Madam Halley is an avatar of Benevolence, which is news to the bounty hunter but he doesn't put it past the being. Singing Palm has no issues with the Stormlight leaving and they're soon back in drillspace heading for Hole In One. Drix and Janus have a conversation about Benevolence and it's clear the Watchman had a hand in Ember's past and would want her back.

The ship arrives in Hole In One and things aren't in good shape. No word from landing control and obvious blast marks mar the buildings and the crew is wondering just how badly things have gotten.

}}
The Stormlight drops out of drillspace and find a series of sensor drones in the system, actively scanning for 'intruders' into the system. The ship is pinged a few times and they send a revenue cutter out to search the Stormlight. The cutter was a frontline warship, round about 60 years ago. Janus is happy to interact with the cutter crew and let them search the ship, even if they are being total asshats. The comm officer on the other end is real aggressive about things but they send a boarding party over with scanners and toolkits.

Janus lies that we're deadheading to find a bounty and to also pick up (legal) shipments to sell elsewhere outside of Poileps. Cassio and Arche, the two saps told to search the ship, seem to think the crew is real stupid to come to a warzone. Kyruss, however, seems to recognize Cassio from a bounty written in Ozlaf. Kyruss decides to hatch a plan and goes to the Stormlight's small brig and look suspicious. Sure enough, Arche comes to investigate what he's doing and Kyruss locks him in, drawing down immediately on Cassio. He announces the charges he has against him and advises him to come quietly.

Cassio seems to think the captain of the cutter will have his back but Kyruss doesn't think so. Janus goes to speak to the captain and explain the situation. The warning lights in the bridge go off as the cutter activates target lock. There's a threeway conversation between Janus, Kyruss and the captain that gets rather heated with talk of laser weapons and salvage teams.

Janus decides to speak to the manager and Karens her way to the Singing Palms office in system. She explains what's happening with legal bounty work and how the interdictor is interfering with it. Head office lays into Kamal but asserts that the Stormlight must be searched still. Janus is able to convince the captain of the cutter that they're wasting valuable time searching other ships and come to an accord. Arche is released back to the cutter, Cassio takes his place, and the cutter undocks.

The Stormlight heads planetside and the plan is to make it look like an engine is suffering trouble (ostensibly caused by the cutter) forcing an emergency landing nearer the miner's hidden holdout. Franco checks out the terrain and knows where the meet was supposed to be and is able to triangulate a few locations they may have retreated. He also knows that Mendi, a Ceinerth who are tentacled centipede people that adore mining and living underground, is their inside 'man'.

Janus plan need a little assistance and so Kyruss decides to help by putting some blast marks on the engine faring, but he somehow manages to shoot something critical with his shotgun and damages the ship. Some emergency flying skills on Janus' part get the Stormlight down but not as close as they would've liked to their original LZ. They're in one peice, more or less,

Ember is pretty upset about the rough landing and confronts the crew about it, soon focusing her anger on Kyruss. Drix tries to calm her even though Kyruss is only making things worse by speaking to the teen in a totally condescending manner. Ember decides, while Drix is mid-sentence, that talk is cheap and leaps at Kyruss. Ember destroys his shotgun with her bare hands before landing a flurry of blows, kicking him across the bridge and leaving him with some scarred up chitin.

Janus uses the itnercom to advise Franco there's a situation on the bridge. There's tlak about Ember being dangerous, unpredictable, and a need for her to be controlled. She raises Singing Palm control again and advises them that they'll be sending a shuttle to get repair supplies. Control is eager to send someone to the Stormlight under the guise of concern and so the crew decides to jump into action and get the contraband off the ship.

Kyruss does some quick scouting of the area and finds an abandoned mine tunnel that could work as a stash. The crew loads up the shuttle with the guns but it takes some time and they're worried the SAR team sent by Control will see the shuttle moving about. Drix, Ember and Franco take off in the shuttle as the first radar signature from the SAR team shuttle comes into range. Drix decides to take the shuttle farther out and so Franco pushes the shuttle to get it moving fast.

The SAR team asks where the Stormlight's shuttle went as they haven't seen them on sensors. Janus bluffs that the shuttle left some time ago and the SAR leader doesn't seem to be buying it. Even so, they ask about the condition of the ship and crew and soon move in to assist. Kyruss wonders if Janus needs a convincing injury and punches her in the head.

Franco tries to raise Mendi to get the deal sealed but the radio chatter is picked up. The SAR team begins to pursue but Drix is able to convince them that they're simply lost, not running guns. The SAR team gives them the correct heading to hit the settlement, over 600km away, and they turn the shuttle to take that route while looking for a useful opportunity. Franco is able to put the shuttle down near some rough terrain and the trio unload, and camouflage, the contraband before piling back into the shuttle and resuming course for the settlement at high speed.

The SAR team leader speaks with Janus and outlines the actions they'll take; treating the crew, fixing the engine, checking the nav system. They also check on Cassio and he's pretty busted up from the rough landing. Kyruss is happy to have the SAR team take Cassio for medical treatment but he handcuffs himself to the prisoner to go with.

The Stormlights shuttle gets to the Singing Palms main settlement and dicker about with getting the aprts needed for the ship. Cassio is brought to the med center and fixed up before being released to Kyruss' custody. They return to the Stormlight and then make their next move in finishing the arms deal. Janus has a clearing where, upon a call/response signal is made, contact should be established. They head there, sans weapons, and make contact with one filthy miner.

The man wants to know where the guns are and Janus has to explain to him that they're well hidden and they'll show him where it is. The miner is upset as this wasn't the terms of the deal, as he understood it. There's some discussion of how to do the handoff and it's agreed that one of the miners will accompany the Stormlight and bring them to a new handoff location.

The handoff is made after Mendi is shown the weapons and the hidden contraband is recovered. Most of the payment is in company scrip, however, which doesn't help out the Stormlight crew very much. It mostly just pays for the repair parts. They finish the deal and take off, heading for Tiberius once more.

Kyruss and Ember converse in the mess and seem to reach an accord, of sorts, while speaking about her powers and temperament. Drix and Kyruss work on their own projects and Franco confronts Janus about being more than a small time two-bit crook. They eventually land and get paid for the gun running before picking up a cargo load of goats. Maybe someone needs them somewhere?

The crew heads for the warehouse with a quickness to get some more loot from departed Vinnie Star before his gang knows the deal is on. Franco is ready to do some technical wizardry when Kyruss simply blasts the door and the shooting starts. There's only a couple of mooks babysitting the warehouse and Ember telekinetically floated one as a screaming clay pigeon for Kyruss while Drix blasted the other. Soon enough, the cargo inside was theirs for the picking.

Franco did some recon in the comptuer system in the office. Transaction records show Gorgrains did a lot of business with Vinnie Star but Vinnie has never tried to stiff him, not once. Out of character. Gorgrains mostly deals with contraband tech. Jericho, one of the Long Watchman, was being fed false info from Vinnie.

Janus was quickly sorting through the cargo in the warehouse knowing time was of the essence. She was able to find some cheap goods that were easily transportable but the clock was ticking and the crew decided getting to Tiberius sooner was better than later. They boarded the Stormlight and took off for Tiberius.

Kyruss found Franco reviewing some computer files while the ship was in drill space and the bounty hunter wondered aloud how they could get the rest of the crew on board with upgrading their equipment so their skills could be more fully utilized. Franco thought the crew would be amenable and realize that what's good for the goose is good for the gander.

Drix visited Ember in her quarters with some tea, intent on providing some guidance and perhaps some peace but the rebellious teen wasn't having and sent him on his way with a 'Kick me' sign on his back. Kyruss eventually followed the directive and indeed kicked him. Later, in the mess, Kyruss proposed that the crew purchase an electronic kit to increase their chances to hack and crack security systems.

The crew wasn't swayed by wiggling mandibles and a rambling, circuitous speech. Franco found Drix in his quarters later and asked him about Jericho, curious about the man. Drix knows the man, he was part of the cabal that forced Drix into sabbatical. If Jericho is around Hole In One space, his dead drop would be at Asrir.

THE STORY OF JERICHO
Jericho refused to allow a colonist station protection of a Long Watch convoy because they couldn't pay him his "gift." They travel to Corinth. On the return voyage, however, the Agamemnon encountered Medea’s Dream adrift in the space lane. Drix’s ship was tasked to investigate and he found that pirates had breached the hull, venting the atmosphere into space and asphyxiating the crew and passengers before boarding and looting the little vessel.

Upon returning to the Agamemnon, Drix openly questioned the Commissar’s decision to leave the defenseless ship unprotected. He asked his fellow wardens why the Temple should place profit above the value of human life, intimating that the decision was contrary to the Code’s dictate to protect the weak. In short order, he was taken to a quiet part of the carrier and interrogated by several of his brothers in a sort of informal court martial. He did not deny his comments, nor that he felt the judgement went against the Code. By the time he returned to his quarters, he received a message informing him that his actions were contrary to the “good order and discipline” of the Agamemnon and that he was “excused from his command so that he might have time to reflect upon his actions while free from distraction.”

Cast out of the shelter of the Watch, Drix has wandered while looking for some new purpose that can give his life the meaning it once had.

MEANWHILE...

The Stormlight arrives at Tiberius and the welcome is chilly, to say the least. Robed Long Watchmen are waiting for the crew and appear to be intent on finding Ember. Brother Strekred and his bro-migos are waiting for at the end of the ramp when Kyruss, Drix and Janus lead Kyruss' bounty off the ship. The brothers demand to see 'the monster' Ember and show them an old pic. Drix feigns ignorance and Janus contends there's no one on board.

Drix steps forward, knowing that the brothers may take his word better, and lies that Ember is not on the ship. Strekred seems to see right through him and looks put out that Drix would lie. Janus eventually relents and allows the brothers on board while Kyruss turns in his bounty. They find no one, of course (not even Franco), and leave with a note of warning to Drix.

The crew isn't very flush with cash, their cheap goods not being worth much, but they have enough walking around money. They head to the bar, minus Franco and Ember. The hot topic is that the Singing Palm Mining Ltd is having some major labor issues in Poileps as the miners are arming themselves and not being generally miner-ly. Agge Vellinga is another topic of note, he's a fixer who's extending his reach and there's talk his offices could be ripe for the taking if some heisters were interested.

The crew reassembles on the ship and discusses their options. Franco puts forth the Jericho situation but the crew seems inclined to support the miners in their rebellion. There's some discussion about motivations, mostly around Janus, but the crew decides to go forward. The gun supplier they're working for is Yiki, one of the Threel, a short race with wide eyes and nervous hands that have a hairy fringe that tends to click and chatter. He's a smooth talker and seems relaxed and he's happy to do business with Janus.

Janus decides to find Drix while the crew's in drill space. She's curious why the Long Watch wants Ember dead so badly. Drix mentions how genetic modification is heresy in their eyes. She's monstrous. Of course, Drix sees something of himself in her since he now has some of that power and he'll do his best to watch out for her.

Drix finds Ember and offers to help her find out her past, where she came from, and he seems earnest enough about it despite her reluctance. Kyruss decides to tinker with his pistol and turn it into a more holdout configuration, though it might get a little... explody.

Franco decides to begin scanning the derelict to try and figure out what might await the crew when one of the drones flares up to life, coming up on sensors in the shuttle. Janus freaks out, telling him to toss the scanner out of the airlock. He was already suited up so one quick airlock operation later and the scanner is floating through space before it's obliterated by a beam shot from the drone.

Janus wants more info herself so she starts up the shuttles passive scanners. She's able to determine that, though the drone dropped off their sensors before, it's definitely still out there. These things are military grade, no doubt about it.

The crew heads into the derelict, sans Janus, and there're signs of explosive decompression and lots of damage. Kyruss takes Drix' scanner and fires it up once they're inside, discovering that the derelict has been thoroughly filled with holes. He also figures out that the drones aren't quite what they seem and might even be T'Selek tech. There's a hole above them that might lead directly to the bridge as well, which would only require a short space walk on the outer hull.

Frando and Kyruss pontificate about the Duzan making the space walk while Kyruss covers him. Drix seems to be familiar with the layout of freighters like this one and will look for a computer hookup. Franco begins heading off with his mag boots on Kyruss' direction but this freighter is coming apart in unexpected ways and he almost loses his footing before managing to reattach and continue on. Drix and Ember split up, the paladin heading for Engineering while the violent teenager looks for the Cargo hold.

Drix isn't as familiar with the layout as he thought, soon getting lost due to the obstacles and damage he finds. He eventually manages to find his destination but it takes him quite some time and he's not sure what route will lead him back. Ember has a much easier time of it and finds the cargo hold mostly empty save for some extra large farming machine chained to the deck, mostly. It's in pieces. This freighter was clearly on an inbound run hoping to load up.

Franco finds the ship's voyage sensor log in the bridge and works to free it, packing it up before retracing his steps back to Kyruss. Ember decides to head back to the hole where Kyruss is holding fort, leaving the cargo bay and its sad farm tools. Drix is in Engineering but he's turned around and uses his scanner to try and suss out where he's at. He exits the compartment via a blast hole and finds himself on the outside of the freighter and he's sure he's not on the right side. The rest of the crew is assembled at the hole by now and they realize Drix has been missing for a while. Kyruss will head after him and track him down. Ember mutters under her breath that it might be best to just leave Drix here. Cold as ice.

Kyruss wanders into a very thoroughly destroyed section of the ship and pieces start coming off. So do the 'secure' footholds he tries to clamber for and he drifts deeper into the ship, finding himself in an unfamiliar part of the freighter. Drix thinks he might've seen some movement in his periphery but he isn't sure while he's walking along the ship. He decides to check it out and moves quick to try and catch up to it but he manages to slash a hole in the leg of his suit. *hisssss* He manges to tape it but hears Kyruss radio him that he's in trouble in the hold. Drix turns about then, moving to help him out of this jam but his suit is leaking too much and he has to turn about.

Kyruss decides a gun can solve his problem and starts firing his shotgun to use the recoil to reorient himself. It manages but it blasts a few holes in some pressurized containers and plumes of foggy gas are ejected, blinding Kyruss. Drix sees the jets and feels the ship move, and radios Janus to let her know that the situation is getting dire. Franco and Ember feel the ship moving and decide to board the shuttle. Janus moves the shuttle along the hull with the RCS thrusters, taking more time but staying hidden and they eventually see Drix.

They move for the gas plume to try and find Kyruss and contact is made but the insectoid pushes off and gets caught by the plume, bounced hard off the bulkhead and floating (flying, spinning) in space. Janus decides that Kyruss can sweat it out for a bit and picks him up on the way back to atmosphere and the Stormlight.

The freighters data record (VDR) shows that the ship was on their standard approach and was set upon by the drones within seconds. Kyruss recognizes more signs of T'Selek tech at work in the operation. interestingly, on the voyage previous to this one, the freighter jettisoned a series of... something but the details are missing. This freighter might've been the one that dropped off the killer drones that destroyed it. And they deployed it at the request of... Sally Three Hands. There's some shenanigans afoot.

The crew heads back to Hole In One to speak with Sally and a meeting in space is arranged between the two ships. Janus and Sally get to talking amidst their respective armed guards. Sally seems surprised of the news the crew has brought her but she'd like to get some payback on whoever is fucking up Monday's Paradise. Kyruss offers to go after a bounty for her.

Sally is disappointed that her goods are floating in vacuum and her ships wrecked but she offers a token payment to the crew. The crew is less than impressed but decide to push their luck by joining Sally planetside and cleaning things up with Vinnie since he'll know we're coming. The crew will split up, taking the shuttle and Stormlight separately. Vinnie and most of his crew will be at the docks waiting for the Stormlight but his warehouse will likely be very under defended. Kyruss and Franco land the shuttle outside of radar range and hustle to get eyes on the docking area.

Eventually the Stormlight lands with Janus maneuvering to make it look like they're being sneaky, even if they're not. Janus, Drix and Ember exit the ship, mentioning they need to be quick. Vinnie can't resist and makes his triumphant monologue, except his head explodes two syllables in when Kyruss takes his shot. Ember lashes out at the remaining four gangsters and though she doesn't land many hits with her blade, two take off running while the other pair try to take cover. Janus and Drix open fire with shotguns, blasting the two that stuck around to pieces before the smoke clears.

Franco calls up Cutter, his mole in Vinnie's gang, and tells him that Vinnie has been permanently retired and Cutter should fill the leadership void. Cutter isn't too keen but Franco is convincing and Cutter decides to do it anyway. Franco advises him to paint his face red.

Janus wonders aloud if robbing Vinnie's warehouse isn't the next move the crew should make. Kyruss has some bounty work that needs finishing up so he heads to the cantina and finds his mark can be returned for the bounty in the Tiberius system, which is an urbanized area in the Sierra Nevada sector.

The crew finds themselves on Hole in One, a dinky planetoid with artificial gravity and atmosphere that likes to think it's a real place but it's more of a waystation. They're looking for work but Hole in One is a dangerous place to be. Vinny Star, a notorious local gangboss, seems to be pretty upset with us and is blocking our access to the Stormlight, our ship.

Janus decides that getting a job is the right move and calls up Sally Three Hands. She always has three hands but one of them doesn't belong to her and it seems to always change. Janus and Sally have a conversation about a run to Mundy's Paradise, booze for palladium. Sally's had two couriers vanish on her and she's wondering if someone's trying to horn in her or not. Whatever the case, she needs to find out and is willing to pay, so Janus takes the job.

The crew likes the prospect of a job but they still need to get to the ship. Kyruss is keen to get out towards the docks and get eyes on so he can snipe them while Ember and Drix will take a much more forward route. Franco decides to see what the situation at the dock is like and hacks into the surveillance system. He isn't able to get the feeds up that he'd prefer but he does find that Vinnie has set out a smorgasboard of information on the entire crew and his stated desire that they be taken in dead.

Kyruss hears boots coming down the corridor towards the alcove where the crew has been planning their route and he starts shooting. The other crew beats feet, running for their lives to the airlock that will spit them out on the surface. They manage to make it, though Janus sees that there's more than a few guys surrounding our ship. Kyruss wonders if Rurkuk, aka 8-Man, Spider-Man, Spider-8, due to the number of arms he has, might be among them. If so, his distaste of Vinnie might be a handy distraction. Kyruss floats the idea to Franco, and Janus gives him a cred chip for his troubles.

Franco moves towards the docking area, low-crawling and moving with some stealth before finding himself at the edge of the docking area. He identifies Rurkuk and calls him up on his communicator, offering that he should switch sides and tell Vinnie to go fuck himself. Rurkuk, in a sudden unexpected reversal, tells Franco to go fuck himself instead! Curses! Franco let's the crew know they're in dire straits and they go hell for leather, moving towards the dock to bring the fight.

Kyruss and Drix are pinned down but Ember and Janus keep moving forward, firing at Vinnie's crew around the ship and taking some fire in return. Franco recharges his Chameleon but the sudden shock of pain draws attention to his position. Ember keeps up the weight of fire, firing at the mob as does Kyruss but his fire gets him shot for his efforts. Some of Vinnie's men began looking for Franco and also taking cover behind the Stormlight. Drix begins moving in but comes under heavy fire and has to hit the dirt.

One of the gangers figures out where Franco is and heads in, switching out his rifle for a pistol, which confuses Franco while he waits with his blade. The Infiltrator is shot but he stabs the man in return, killing him outright. The nano-blade putting out a spray of blood draws the attention of the others and they begin to zero in on him. Kyruss lays down more showy, but ineffective, cover fire, Drix tries the same and gets shot for his efforts. Ember keeps running headlong into the fight with her pistol, seemingly impervious to the rifle fire that's zipping by her. She ends up behind the same berm as Franco and Janus tries to draw more fire with her pistol.

A particularly creative thug begins climbing aboard the Stormlight, likely intent to cause some damage to the interior, but Kyruss is able to pick him off with his rifle. Franco takes the opportunity to pop up and pump shotgun shells into the gangers from his protected position. The remaining thug chooses valor and high tails it and the crew scramble into the ship.

Drix is happy to slip into the Autodoc while Janus gets the ship up and away from Hole in One, establishing sub-light travel from the planetoid. She tells the rest of the crew that Sally Three Hands wants to know why her ships are disappearing. The crew lays in a course and heads towards Mundy's Paradise and its home system, deciding to scope out the system. Drix plans out a roundabout route that will help keep stellar objects in

They find there are multiple derelict spaceships in the system and they seem to match up with the ships Sally has sent. The Stormlight puts itself down, out of the way, amid the rather flat farmfields that dot the surface. The crew pile into the shuttle and head for Landing City, finding a lot of bored farmers hoping for interstellar tradeliners. Kyruss checks in on the bounty messageboard before heading to the bar with Janus in tow and Ember bringing up the rear. Drix and Franco are more mission oriented and head for station control, hoping to find out more about stellar traffic in the system.

The bartender tells Janus that there's been no interstellar traffic landing here in weeks. That seems to work out since there's no other souls in sight and the barkeep mentions that the grain elevators are full.

Drix and Franco find approach control staffed by a older human female and a roly-poly felinoid. Drix makes noises about stellar obstacles being in the way and presenting navigational difficulties. He shows them data on his personal pad to back up his assertion. Franco plays off the pair by acting as an officious prick with Drix as his technical liaison, demanding access to their sensors and data. They cave and allow the two to take a look.

Kyruss tells Janus and Ember to head back to the ship and he'll be along shortly before he circles back to the bar. The barkeeps bounty file specified 'alive' so the bounty hunter ordered another drink to distract the man before levelling a shotgun at him. The portly man isn't about to start a fight and goes quietly-ish, only needing a couple smacks from Kyruss.

The crew reassembles in the shuttle, minus Kyruss, and decide that going exo-planetary in the shuttle to determine what happened to the derelicts is their next move. They stop by the Stormlight and drop off the bartender before heading out of the atmosphere.

It's quickly obvious when they get near one of the derelicts that there are many more sensor readings up there than anticipated. Janus does some quick flying to avoid the autonomous mobile units, while Franco and Drix use the sensor data and readings to hone in on the kill-units floating around the ship. One of them seems to realize they're near and the crew heads back into the safety of the atmosphere. There's some discussion on how they could approach the derelict with Franco promoting caution while Janus thinks taking the shuttle in dead-stick is the best option. Drix tries to look within for answers and finds beauty in the savagery of the situation. To everyone else, he's mumbling to himself.

They set off once more in the shuttle and align themselves using the navigational data before going for a burn. Janus manages to put the shuttle right up against the hulk and the crew began suiting up to head in, with Janus promising to have the shuttle ready to jam out if trouble arose.

To be continued...

= World Facts =
'''Clan Charsa (Miners)'''<br>
''What ancient prophesy of this clan (Charsa) is linked to the Shadow?''
One day, we will unearth the Heart of the Mountain which light that banishes the Shadow.

''Why do all the other clans respect the Charsa?''
Wealth.

'''Clan Dothas (Mystics)'''<br>
''What makes Clan Dothas indispensable to the others?''
They perform marriages.

''What tragedy was the Dothas in the forefront of?''
They sanctioned arranged weddings, thus taking away the woman's agency in forming the union.

''Your clan was the only one that voted against dissolving the clans. Why did the rest of the clans vote against you, and why did you go along with them anyway?'' The Dothas believe in the sanctity of marriage, so they stuck to tradition. The rest of the clans voted against them because they saw what was happening. The Dothas eventually went along with the others because they feel that they cannot bring the other clans if they are outsiders.

'''Clan Molthas (Rugged Mountaineers)'''<br>
''Why is the Molthas clan so reclusive and how is this different from how they once were?''
They believe that their bloodline holds a secret and are obsessed with maintaining the purity of their blood. They now engage in ritual infanticide to keep the purity of the line.

''What ancient mountain fortress do the Molthas hold?''
The Aerie

''Your clan is the one that first encountered the Shadow. How did you find out about it, and what happened?'' There were a group of hunters, including Tovy and her brother. They witnessed changes in the forest but didn't understand the scope of the threat. Some left to warn the clan but the others scouted. Those that left fell to the Shadow.

''Why did that encounter leave a wound your clan can never recover from?'' Tovy's bother slew the old king - regicide

''And which clan blames your clan for everything that happened after?'' Charsa blames them.

''Most of the women in your clan revelled in the violence that occurred during the Shadow’s earliest incursions. What did they do that crossed the line?'' The Molthas should have retreated in the face of the Shadow, but didn't because of pride. ''As a result, their men fell to the Shadow and they know it.''

''Who outside the clan knows about it?'' The Charsa know about it.

''Were you one of them?'' I (Lomo) reveled in the violence but now I feel sick about it.

'''Clan Morsh (Traders)'''<br>
''What hero came from this clan and what were they famous for?''
Syri of Morsh overthrew Janice because everything she did was too costly.

''Why is this clan’s political position unassailable?''
The Clan's position is unassailable because they control trade.

'''Clan Richti (Nomads)'''<br>
''What sacred object is this clan reputed to possess?''
The Sky Stone, a meteorite'', from which they are able to make mystical weapons and artifacts.''

''Which clan did Richti split from?''
They split off from the Royshan

'''Clan Royshan (Warriors)'''<br>
''Why do all of the other clans fear their warriors?''
They have advanced unit training (i.e., Spartans, Janissaries) as a cultural upbringing other clans view as taboo.

''What secret knowledge does this clan possess that they have sworn never to use against the other clans?''
They know of basic explosives but won't ever use or share that knowledge.

'''Clan Sharn (Hunters & Gatherers)'''<br>
''What tyrant came from Clan Sharn and what small good came from their reign?''
Janice the Unyielding developed a curriculum for training the hunters and gatherers so they're more prepared than they used to be.

''What key area do the Sharn still control?''<br>
They still hold the Forest of Janice.

''After the first attack by the Shadow, your clan was to play a vital role in the early response. What was your clan supposed to do, and why were you not able to do that?'' Yeli's clan was supposed to scout out the extent of the corruption. They failed because they were supposed to share the responsibilities with the Dothas but they didn't trust them and went another way.

''What do you wish you could have done differently?'' Sucked up their pride and did the job as it was assigned to them.

'''Clan Thason (Herders & Equestrians)'''<br>
''What ancient transgression do people say this clan committed?''
Moved freely over the old border.

''What does this clan offer that no other can?''
Created kvass, offering inebriation! ''Maybe this gives them visions that upset the Dothas? Or maybe a concentrated form of Kvass is used by the Dothas oracles to see the answers?''

''''Clan Thedon (Builders and Masons)'''<br>
''Which important site built by this clan do they still hold?''
They built and still hold Thelsten's Tor.

''What unique physical trait do members of this clan share?''
Golden eyes.

'''Clan Toltho (Craftsfolk & Farmers)'''<br>
''What relic did the Toltho create and which clan currently holds it?''
A multi-headed idol where each face is an animal is carved out of granite. It is 8" tall and 5" around. They still hold it but everyone, especially the Dothas clan, covets it.

''What is unusual about the eyes from the Toltho clan?''
They are super dark, black like the night of a New Moon.

''Your clan suffered the deepest losses, with only a few dozen survivors of the initial disaster. Which clan do you blame for your losses?'' The Toltho blames the Royshan because they could not defend them from the Shadow.
We plan our mission and assign roles. Lomo botches his Watch Their Backs roll and owes a Complication. Rezi struggles with her navigating and we all mark Weary. Yeli scores a partial on recon and marks Weary. Toby scores a partial on Take Point, owes a Complication, and marks Weary.

During the mission, {{npcref|Palita}} gets separated from the squad and is never seen again. {{npcref|Draile}} gets killed. Something follows us home.

The squad gets assigned to escort a wagon train. We're all marching alongside the wagons, moving through the forest between map locations four and five. Resi's talking with Draile, and just as Draile makes a joke that cracks the Corporal up, she goes down with an arrow in her neck. Yeli had been checking on something farther back and sees archers up in the trees. Tovy had been scouting ahead, convinced the Shadow was planning an ambush, but then comes running back and engages with her bow. She sees that the archers attacking them have the forms of men, but no mouths. Their faces are seamless between nose and chin. Lomo initially hits the deck, then also fires arrows back. Once we kill a few of the ambushers, they disengage in stages, and since our goal is to protect the convoy, we don't pursue. Lomo and Tovy discover that the dead bodies are melting, which is disgusting. When they return, Lomo realizes Palita's gone, and asks Rezi what happened. Rezi's not sure, but she curses the way people never seem to hold formation as expected. She gets the formation moving, reminding everyone of their spot in the formation, and also to keep an eye out for Pelita. {{npcref|Laya}}, driver of the lead wagon, approaches Rezi and warns her that speed is important. The Corporal agrees and orders people forward, although Yeli's not pleased that we're leaving someone behind. She wouldn't like it if it was her. She mutters something under her breath, and Rezi mutters that next time, it's going to be Yeli who gets it. We get to our destination camp near dark.

At the camp, Rezi delivers a eulogy for Draile, but stammers to a halt, and has to ask Yeli to come help her finish it. Lomo steps up and speaks a prayer for Polita, too.

Lomo then wanders off to the shadows at the edge of camp, bearing a flask of the strong stuff, and gets a little hammered while staring at the sky and thinking about the melting bodies she saw today. She has a vision of the stars going out, replaced by a darkness covering the sky, and then the sky begins raining hot, back, acidic goo on her. Black hands come out of the puddle she's in and grab at her limbs, and that's when she snaps out of it. She then goes to open up to Rezi about her gried for Palita.

She finds Rezi having a drink, talking about the day, enjoying having made it through her first battle as a Corporal. She invites Lomo to have a drink with her, and Lomo promptly starts talking about the need to go search for Palita. Rezi tells her it's great that she found someone to care about, and she should hang on to the hope that Palita's going to make it back.

Tovy finds herself arm-wrestling with {{npcref|Marro}}, who is absolutely jacked, and gives her a good run for her money. Tovy ends up losing, but she came so close that she feels a renewed commitment to training. Then Yeli comes to talk to her about Palita, and Tovy just shuts her down hard, and lays into her about not showing respect to the Corporal. Yeli doesn't seem quite as enthusiastic about military discipline as Tovy, and their conversation ends in mutual anger.

Tovy then unburdens herself to the Corporal, talking about her guilt for having misread the Shadow's intentions during the day's skirmish. Rezi ironically gives her the same "do a little better each day" speech that Tovy gave Yeli, but delivered with a little more kindness. Tovy promises to be on the corporal's team tomorrow.

Rezi comes back to the campfire, feeling a little tired after hearing about everyone's problems, and decides that she is not even a little bit in the mood to have Initiate {{npcref|Ega}} sitting in her spot by the fire. She teaches Ega respect.

We all wake up to screams and cries of anguish. The camp is under attack! The air smells of smoke. Camp defense mission! Rezi has a hit but still marks Weary for not having Cameraderie with everyone. Yeli's on Lookout and, with a little help from the Corporal, makes a strong hit. Complications: Ega is wounded and marks 2-harm. {{npcref|Palita}} dies. Ega is captured by the enemy.

Yeli hears the sounds of fighting and gathers her equipment, shouting for people to stand to arms, but she doesn't leave her tent until ordered. Lomo picks up her bow and goes to work. The attackers have lit some of the tents on fire, but that's the only illumination we have to see the 8' tall attackers. They're using 8' long flaming tree limbs as both clubs and incendiary devices. Ega shouts for instructions from Rezi, who tells her to fight as she was trained. She doesn't get far before she's clubbed right into a tent, which collapses in flames on top of her. Tovy isn't sure it's safe to use her bow in this uncertain light and fights at close quarters with shield, sword, and spear. Some of the Initiates try imitating Tovy rather than following their own training. Yeli spots some smaller figures that run on all fours that start dragging Ega and the tent she's in. Rezi pursues and spears one, and rather than dying, the thing starts trying to crawl up her spear. The other one gets away with Ega. Lomo jumps on top of a wagon to get a better view and starts using his bow to pick off enemies, and sees that the enemy has archers of their own. One of them has Palita's green cloak, and she taks special care to take that one down. Eventually one of the 8' titanic attackers goes down, and the squad that was attacking it goes to attack another one, causing the balance of numbers to slowly but inevitably shift in favor of the Watch. As the enemy withdraws, Tovy calls out to Rezi for permission to pursue. "Go! Go! Go!" replies the corporal. Lomo switches from bow to sword and joins the pursuit, and Yeli follows. Rezi brings up the rear to keep the squad focused. Pursuit becomes our new mission.

Yeli botches the Recon, but Lomo's there to pick up the slack. Yeli and Tovy get full successes on scouting and walking point. Complications: something follows us home, we lost a pivotal asset.

The pursuit is odd because the "titans" don't really want to run and keep standing to fight. The smaller ape-things and the archers move faster, and we have to rely on arrows, or on them making mistakes. It's all going great until we crest a rise and confront an enemy battalion. Our force cannot possibly match an enemy battalion. Rather than a great victory, the pursuit turns into a rapid withdrawl and a hasty evacuation of the camp. The wagons we just led here now retreat with us, leaving behind a burning camp. Once we've covered some ground, the Lt Cmd calls a halt and begins planning the new front. Our squad is assigned to carry the news of this retreat back to {{npcref|Reti}}.

Dirdu is a brilliant commander who's insight and strategic prowess has managed to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat, though she's best known for organizing and coordinating tactical retreats in the early days of the war. Some would say she has a short fuse when questioned about her sometimes opaque plans but they have continued to pay off for The Watch. Dirdu is virtually never seen without a black veil and gloves, covering up exposed skin nearly at all times.

Roena has seemingly made her way into leadership despite herself, having a reputation for arrogance that would be unearned if she wasn't, in fact, rather capable. She projects herself with a sarcastic mein that sometimes overshadows a truly caring nature, likely a defense mechanism towards her subordinates. She is the right hand woman for Commander Dirdu of the Southern Legion and handles much of the mundane details that tend to get lost by the Commander.

|Moves='''Mender''': When you heal another character’s wounds, roll with Cunning. (If they are a PC, they don’t roll to Lick Their Wounds.) On a hit, they recover harm. On a 10+, choose 2. On a 7-9 choose 1:<br>
- You do it quickly and cleanly<br>
- They don’t need significant bedrest to recover<br>
- You gain Camaraderie with them<br>
- One of you lowers their Weary by 1 (your choice)<br>
If you spend 1 Camaraderie with them, add +2 to your roll (choose after rolling). On a miss, they still recover harm, but something unrelated goes wrong.<br><br>
- They lose 1 Camaraderie with you and you gain 1 Camaraderie with them<br>
- Take +1 ongoing against them for the scene<br>
- Look Beyond them as if you rolled a 10+<br>
